December 8th, 2018 Free Wifi

Wifi didn’t work for us, but the antel shop in town has free and fast wifi.

December 8th, 2018 Potable water

Its a Ose Water station. Unfortunately the tap doesn’t work anymore.
But all over town you will find taps with drinking water. You ll find them in maps.me

November 15th, 2018 End of the road

We really enjoyed this beautiful hike which made us think of on of our first hikes on Vancouver island. If you want it more it adventurous, go with high tide and you have to climb over fallen trees and jump over small rivers. Otherwise its an easy stroll on pebble beach.
But indeed; if you want an end of the world feeling, better wait for the apocalypse...

November 1st, 2018 Argentina Insurance

Here a friendly boy sells you your insurance, but he knows what to do and otherwise asks his mum.
For Camioneta 30 days its 17.400p. Insurance is valid for all Mecrosur states. Opening hours are 09:15 am till 20:00 pm.

October 10th, 2018 Pilmichue

Freyas boyfriend “welcomed” us. He told us that a dorm would be 12.000 pp and if we wanted to sleep in our van we weren’t allowed inside to chill with our friend who would be using the dorm room. He said we would use the space of other guests; its offseason and our friend would have been the only guest.

We left and went to Hostal Bellymar instead

September 30th, 2018 Embalse Puclaro

If you ask him friendly, Christian Bull -the owner of the windsurf school - will open the gate for you and you can park the car next to his shelter, a bit hidden from the wind.
We stayed three nights and had an awesome time kiting and with all the friendly people of the school.
No facilities but a freshwater reservoir.

September 21st, 2018 safe parking

Car wash for 13000 or 6000 if you do it yourself. Really friendly. They only have kärcher high pressure pumps without lots of pressure and sometimes the water is gone for a bit; so bring some time!

September 21st, 2018 Altos de Quitor Glamping

We stayed one night. Its 5000pp. Hosts were welcoming at first but not exactly willing to help with our questions; it just felt like they were mainly focusing on their glamping-guests.
Showers can be warm but during rush-hour its more of a cold drip-system.
Wifi is alright at the reception but barely reaches the car park. They have nice seating areas but your car will be parked in the sun with no shade around.
We went to Andes Nomads instead and loved it.

September 8th, 2018 Sea Car Auto Lavanderia

They were unfriendly from the start and wanted 80bol.
I guess they just weren’t in the mood to clean cars today. I left.

Instead I went to “lavado 4x4” (find it on maps.me), they were really friendly and did a good job for 50bol.

September 7th, 2018 F6 - Road Information

While maps.me and google have problems showing the right way, there is a proper carretera going from Oruro directly to Sucre. Its about 300km of the best paved roads we have seen in South America so far and goes through beautiful hilly countryside.

EDIT: only the last 40km before Ravelo are on/off paved/ good gravel. But they are working hard to make it all paved.

So do not pay attention to your navigation system for once but just follow your nose south and after 100km you will find signs directing you towards Sucre.

Lots of beautiful wild camping sides along the road!

September 4th, 2018 Police Checkpoint

We’ve also avoided this police checkpoint in an easy way. Just as senor sepp says. Maps.me doesn’t know the way though.
Coming from the peruvian border turn left after the gas-station. Drive towards the terminal and there you take just before a small concrete bridge the right dirt-road. Drive towards the grey door and turn to the left. Follow the dirt-road up and soon you will be at the carretera to la Paz again! Good luck!

September 4th, 2018 Police and Toll

Police check point- only checking outbound la Paz.

September 2nd, 2018 Tour to Uros islands with Roger or other local

Roger wasn’t there, so instead we did the tour with Francisco.
Since it was Sunday, there were less tourists he said; we almost had all the islands for ourselves. Really enjoyed it! Highly to recommend!

If you bring your passport you can let it stamp with the official Uros stamp.

You can also sleep at Francisco’s island, its 40 USD pp/pn and includes transport, accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner and lots of activities (check foto) . Contact Francisco: www.urossumaurolodge.com

August 31st, 2018 Pintura / Chapa - Panelbeater

We had quite some rust on our car and Naftaly got all rid of it and did an awesome paint job. 2 days of work for 320soles. One thing though: he promised us we could sleep in their yard and around 7pm the lady who owns the backyard said we have to leave. After some negotiation Naftaly managed that we could stay for this one night.
But take in account that you might have to leave for the night.
Nonetheless; their work was great!

August 24th, 2018 place near a river

Since “grass near a river” is fenced in now, we parked here on our way to Cuzco. Its a level gravel road, surrounding the village. We arrived around 5:30pm and did not see anyone until we left next morning, except some friendly local dogs.
At nighttime you only hear the nearby river.

August 24th, 2018 Nazca Lines II

We arrived with sunset and had a good nights rest. Nobody was here to check on us. Next morning around 07:30 the guard Antonio arrived but was only interested in a chat, not in collecting any fee. He said, he usually is there from 07:30am to 06:00pm.
No facilities but free.

August 18th, 2018 Club Germania

A sports club for Germans and their relatives. Founded mid of 19th century (for everyone who would think something different ;)).

Even without reservation and being a german/ dutch couple, we where invited to stay one night (normally its two nights but they had an event next day and needed the parking lot).
But its better to call beforehand Ms. Janne Gutierrez Rojas +512737247.

The friendly woman at the reception said we weren’t allowed to use the facilities (“only parking for security”) but the security guard said we should use all the facilities. The place is huge, so you won’t see the reception lady again...the showers are amazingly hot!

August 16th, 2018 Two Cordillera Panorama

We drove the full length of the road from west to east. Easy doable if you bring time and high clearance - even in a snowstorm. Though, in a snowstorm you won’t see much of the surrounding peaks, so check the weather forecast. Nevertheless we really enjoyed this beautiful “lord of the rings”-like countryside.

Entrance fee: coming from west, it is 30 soles pp per day but leaving from the east entrance nobody is checking anything.

July 30th, 2018 Mercedes Benz taller Marco

Marco is specialized in Mercedes benz cars and helped us out with a electrical problem. EDC light turned on and van didnt start anymore.
He had the knowledge and tools to fix this problem within a couple of hours. Place looks shabby but great work!

July 23rd, 2018 Kiteschool and Hang Out Kite Ecuador

In March 2018 Javier and Mike moved their kiteschool over to this place. We stayed a month and had an awesome time here! We had classes with them and rented gear. We could also use their wifi, kitchen, toilet and shower.
Their teaching is really good and the rental gear only the newest North and Ion gear. They also sell gear, for that ask Javier to make you a good deal.

July 23rd, 2018 Ecuador Kite Surf

This place is permanently closed. Javier and Mike moved further down the street and operate their school under the new name “Kite Ecuador”. Check the new entry “Kiteschool and Hang Out Kite Ecuador”

June 7th, 2018 Parque Carolina

Perfect spot to visit the city! Everything as mentioned below.
Make sure you arrive early and before the weekend, because the parking lot can get very crowded.
But as soon as you get your spot, you are all set!
There are food- and juice-stands and you can easily go to the centre by public transport.

May 24th, 2018 Entrance fee

Entrance fee is 40.000 pp. Guide to hike volcano Purace is 35.000 per group and is mandatory. Price is negotiable if you want to call the manager. Staff could not explain the price-raise. In rainy conditions path is supposed to be muddy and sight very cloudy.
We did not do it.

May 24th, 2018 Salinas Natural

Road to the Salinas is not on maps.me, but this (02°19′20.06″N 76°30′07.54″W) is where you take the small road up from the main road. Also has a huge blue sign next to it.
After 4km its a small pull out next to the road where you park your car and walk down the hill to the Salinas.
The road is pretty rough and rocky, would not do it a 2nd time with our MB Sprinter.

Thermal pools are beautiful and as mentioned before.

May 23rd, 2018 End of pavement

We drove the 100km from Tierradentro to Popayan on a really rainy day. It took us in our 2wd MB Sprinter 5 hours, including a break of 30 min in front of a landslide. From Cordoba until Popayan its pavement,
before its a slow drive over rocky but solid terrain and once in a while paved road. Only one really tricky part, where a mudslide took the road away.
Bring patients and high clearance, 4wd not necessary.

May 21st, 2018 From Tatacoa North or reverse

Bring time and high clearance. Ground in the flooded tunnels is solid. In our 2wd MB Sprinter it took us 2.5h.

We had sunshine though, with lots of rain it might be different of course.

May 13th, 2018 vista hermosa

Jairo is a really nice and helpful guy with a wonderful spot on the lake! The view is amazing. He has spots for vans/campers etc. if you would like to stay in one of his rooms, this is also possible! The rooms are almost ready and the living room has a great view on the lake! Showers and kitchen available!

April 28th, 2018 Route 66 auto spa

Really good carwash with a super friendly and interested owner; Danny! They also wash te car from underneath! 30.000p

April 26th, 2018 Finca El Carajo

Beautiful place with an amazing view.
Rosalba is the best host and knows a lot about the region and Colombia in general. Some leveled spot to park. 10.000 pp after easy negotiations. Beautiful sendero. Really quiet during the week, weekends can be busy with visitors from Bucaramanga. Very cold showers and on/off wifi.

April 20th, 2018 Minca, corrupt police department

They are still there just a bit down the road direction st Martha. Make sure you have copies of all your papers. If its taking to long, just start making pictures of them welcome to colombia!! Ask them of course before; and you can drive on without paying.
