March 23rd, 2019 Lasamu Camp

Basic camp, but awesome scenery and staff. You park your car next to the river, under tree (shadow) on the sandy spot. You go to sleep after enjoying a campfire (they arrange this for you) and wake up with playing Monkeys, sound of bell of the camels and birds. It is a quite place.

We didnt ask for it but watchmen protect us, to stay at the fire closeby or car.
The owner (beautiful masai lady, with wearing a lot of beads.) came special to us to say hello and invite us to have a look in here village, on the other side of the river.

March 22nd, 2019 Havila Resort

We looked for the Rappit Camp, but unfortuatly we found out, it was of the other side of the river, which take a another 30 minutes. Belong the way we had a look @ Savage Wilderness, but they ask 1000 KSh and for what we’ ve got it was not value for money. Back on the road (500 meters further to Sagana) we found Havila Resort. This resort is situated between de A2 (North Road) and the Tana. It is easy accesible and a fine location for a stop-over and ais a nice place for children. Upon entering you will find the main building with restaurant/bar. The camp site is few hundred meterd further, down to the river with grassy areas. The place is more equipped for tents as cars can’t camp there, but there is a concrete flat part with electricity. They also have 6 modern rooms.

Toilets and showers are close by, but outdated and not kept clean well (we tell them ;-)). They have warm water although we hadn’t. The water is drinkable from the outside tap.

Wifi is at the bar, which is good.

Staff is friendly abd they have security walking around.

They also arrange activities: horseriding, kayakking, raften, waterfall sliding, zip lining. They also rent bychicles.

Camping own gear 500 Ksh pppn
Camping their gear 1000 Ksh pppn
Kids under 5 years for free.

March 21st, 2019 Ambassade of Koninkrijk der Nederlanden

In addition of our previous post, you don’t need to pay for the letters (Sudan and Ethiopia). The process only takes 5 minutes. And best of all is that you can park your car at the Embassy.

March 21st, 2019 CBA BANK (Payment visa Ethiopian Embassy)

Your visa for Ethiopia should be payed at this bank.
It is on walking distance.

Don’t forget the account number of the Ethipian Embassy. They will give it to you on a small paper.

At the bank you fill in a Cash deposit form, give the money and with the proof you go back to the Embassy.

Good luck!

March 21st, 2019 Securite Parking for Ethiopian Embassy

Aks the guards to park your car here and give them something. You can park as long as you want.

March 18th, 2019 Nyayo House

Entrance to stamp your passport is on the LEFT side of the building. Don’t go in at the front main entrance. It can be crowdy, but window 6 went very fast. Explain the situation, fill in the blue form and they will stamp your passport to exit Kenya, leaving you enough time to drive to the border slowly. Took us around 20 minutes in total. No fees charged.

March 18th, 2019 Times Tower

Take the entrance (Most right one) closeby the bridge,
Don’t forget your passport, you need it for the security.

Go straight and take the elevator to the first floor.
Go left, to the door which is secured by a guard.
Ask for miss. Joyce Agik.

Her desk is on the left side. People are friendly and will show you the way.

I arranged it in 5 min.
No costs.

March 18th, 2019 Ambassade of Koninkrijk der Nederlanden

Overlanders from the Netherlands, that wants to travel to Ethiopia, needs a letter of invitation.
The embassy will not give you this letter, but instead will give you a letter stating that they will not give a letter of invitation. This is good enough for the Ethiopian Embassy.

Be sure that you made a appointment in for hand.
They don’t let you in without.

Good luck!

March 15th, 2019 Bbrood bakery

Good Dutch bread and buns. You can also buy good cheese here. European prices.

March 13th, 2019 Time Out Art Camp

This camp is situated 10 km from the beach and is fenced and secured. You will find bandas and cottages next to camping. The spots are close to eachother, but have power and a light. It has a restaurant and swimming pool and showers, which the staff told, where only cold showers. There is also wifi. We haven’t asked for the prices as we didn’t. This was due to it missing a nice vibe. Although the camp is better equipped and organised, we rather stayed at the beach at Tweega with crappy facilties.

March 10th, 2019 Taveta one-stop border

Easy one stop border. We went from Tanzania to Kenya, no hassle as we had everything we needed (yellow card insurance and carnet). Before you enter you have to show your vaccination booklet. After that you will find the visa registration on the rivht side and all car related issues on the left. We paid $50,- for a Kenyian visa and no extra costs for the car (road tax).

March 10th, 2019 Twiga Lodge & Camping

Park you car on the beach, jump into the sea, enjoy the lovely staff & beachboys.
The accommodation, restaurant and abolution blocks are basic and old.

We spend here 5 days and feel very save.
Price: 400 pppn
Wifi good
Food: didnt check
Bar: price of beer expensive
Location: beautiful
Staff: friendly

We did a check in Diani beach, but no where else you can park your car under the palmtrees at the beach.

If you are looking for this, then this is the best spot in the area.

March 9th, 2019 The Garage Moshi

See pictures to give you a better overview of the place

March 9th, 2019 The Garage Moshi

This place is situated just a bit out of town and is well fenced with a guard. The area is not really suited for overland vehicles as there is no space. However you can stay in one of the rooms which has a shower and toilet, all clean. The also have some places to pitch your tent. There is no bar or restaurant, but There is a common area inside and outside and a fridge to put your drinks cold. Wifi is not available when we were there. Price $8 pppn. We stayed 1 night.

February 17th, 2019 Mbega Lodge

I stead in the garden of the lodge. A beautiful place, surrouding by trees, animals.
The campspot is very basic.

Free wifi inside the restaurant. On the campground is 3g connection.

Pitu Mechanic, exist from 1972 (family business). They only work with real parts and they can fix everything!
The owner can speak English very well and the responce time is fast. Beside that they show the proof of real parts.

October 6th, 2018 Golden Valley Hotel Free Camping

Hotel with parking lot where you are allowed to camp. There is a bar with swimming pool and restaurant with okay food.
Alex sold the place to an Kenian investor and new management is running the place. Luckely they gave us the same courtesy and we are allowed to camp for free. Talk to Mr. Josephat.

September 29th, 2018 Amasiko Homestay and campsite

Homestay beautifully located at the lake with a grassy spot where you can camp with max 2 to 3 cars. There is also a possibility to pitch your tent at the lake front. They have 4 simple houses where you can stay for $15 pppn incl breakfast whereas camping is $5 pppn. The houses are cosy with a porch, but the matrasses have had their best time.
2 eco Toilets and donkey showers are all down stairs, but are a bit run down.
No power and no braai or fire pit.
You can have a proper, freshly made 3 course meal here for $10 pp and portions are plenty. Nice thing is, is that everybody is sitting together at a long table. Great way to meet new people.
There are a lot of activities to do here, but you can also relax and play with the local kids that all come and have a look when you arrive.

September 27th, 2018 Enjojo Lodge & Campsite

Nicely run lodge and campsite close to the entrance to Ishasha NP where you can find the famous tree climbing lions. After checking all the campsites here, we found this to be the best option from the 3 campsites (@the River ($20 pppn) the faciltiies where old and not clean, no wifi and no wild animals, and Ishasha Jungle Lodge ($10 pppn) didn’t have any facilities (toilet in restaurant and shower in bungalow, IF it is not booked) for campers, but only a pitch of grass).
Campsite is away from main lodge, but has a nice grassy and flat surface to park your car. Abolution block is modern and clean, but only cold shower. They have a sink where you can do the dishes which is sheltered. You share the place with the tented camps and some banda’s. They lit a campfire for you every night. Staff is very friendly and professional. Campsite is $10 pppn.
Restaurant serve good food (3 course lunch $15, 3 course dinner $20 and breakfast $10). You can go for the fulll board with camping which is $45 pppn in total.

September 27th, 2018 Ishasha NP Campsite Two

All as stated below. Very secluded campsite all to yourself which you can either book at the gate or arrange at the ranger post close to the airport in the park. Here you can also arrange a ranger to guard the place for the night. You have to be self sufficient to stay here as there are no facilities at all except for a open shelter.

Both campsites have view over the river which seperates the border with Congo.

Price for camping is 20000 pppn.

We didn’t camp here as it was too close to Congo and with the ebola outbrake and rebels close by we didn’t feel safe.

September 25th, 2018 Engiri Lodge & Campsite

We just had a look, to stay here for one night.
We had more expectations about this campsite.
There is no internet, warm water for the shower but only in a bucket.
After seeing this place, we left.

September 25th, 2018 Buffalo Camp

Lodge with large restaurant and bar close to the river. It has a parking place where you are allowed to camp. The surface is flat to a certain degree and the campsite has one toilet and cold shower which are okay.
You can have a 3 course diner for 35.000 shilling and the food taste okay.
The terrace of the restaurant has a nice view over a small open space where buffalo, elephants and other animals will pass by.

September 24th, 2018 Rwenzori Trekking Service Hostel

Hostel with small bar and some grassy surface to camp with your car. Surface isn’t flat so hard to find a good spot. Nothing fancy, no power, no wifi, no kitchen, abolution outdated and not really clean, but they have hot water. They charge 8$ pppn incl a very simple breakfast. Price is overcharged, but this is the only place where you can do the Rwenzori trekking and where you can camp.

September 22nd, 2018 Kalitusi Backpackers

All as stated below. You can park the car in the garden with flat grassy surface. Power through extension cord. Clean abolution with hot shower. Okay Wifi available at restaurant. They lit a campfire for you every night and place lanterns at your car for some cosy lights. Great place and helpfull and friendly staff. Price still $8 pppn.

September 20th, 2018 UWA Public site Northern Bank

Camped here as this is the only public camp site in the northern part of the park. It is also the area where you can find wildlife with 3 major tracks that are on the left side of the campsite. From the campsite you drive 7 km up and turn left at the junction. From there on out it is game viewing time.

The campsite itself is anything but fancy with dirty toilets and no running water when we were there, but it has a nice view over the Nile.

——————————————— GETTIN’ LOST ——————————————

September 15th, 2018 The Haven

As stated by others. Nice lodge and campsite overlooking the Nile at the rapids with swimming pool.
Campsites are grassy, but some places are not level. Good abolution block with warm water, but only one kitchen/braai area with 2 powerpoints for all campsites. You are allowed to make fire on the grass for a nice campfire while overlooking the river. Wifi available on the campsites, but very slow.
The bar/restaurant area is nice and the diner is great and also the breakfast is recommended, especially for big eaters as you will get a lot. TIP: share it if you are with 2 as it is more than enough.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. The helped us with a romantic evening fo our friends. Superbly done.
