First accessible camp spot along the Elkhorn Peak BLM access road. Nice site on the other side of the BLM campground. The dirt road was opened up to this site but still covered in snow further up so we just camped there. Fire ring, pit toilets about 200m away in the campground area.

This is the actual free spot to camp, the other locations being on private property. Quiet, little traffic, a few workers driving by early morning and evening. No shade, soft sand even if it doesnt look like it, stay close to the dirt trail.

This is the actual spot to camp or picnic by the palapas between the freshwater lagoon and the ocean. Very quiet, friendly locals who come and go, nice beach. Dirt road to get here is fine with a regular car, but don't venture in the beach even if you have 4x4, as it is turtle habitat, and you will get stuck.

Nice beach, very quiet, as described, we arrived on a Friday and the owner was not there. Only a few locals staying under the palapas.

Nice and quiet, as described. Restaurant was open, nobody asked us to pay anything for camping so we gave 50 pesos to the lady at the restaurant before leaving.

Our F350 diesel had a major engine failure, staff took very long, 6 weeks, to finally get it back, over $1300 lighter. Yes, dollars, not pesos. About a thousand km later, the same problem occurred which cost us to require very expensive towing to the nearest diesel garage. A mechanic confirmed the actual problem had not been diagnosed, unnecessary repairs had been done, bolts and clamps were missing, etc. Not recommended at all.

We were stuck in Tuxtla on a weekend with vehicle problems, so we decided to check this place out. It was a bit late to enter the park so the officer at the gate offered us to spend the night in the parking lot. He was very friendly, placed a pylon about 3 meters behind our truck to make sure nobody would block access, gave us tons of brochures and maps of places to visit in Chiapas. Not the most picturesque place to camp but still a notch above Pemex or Walmart. Safe, access to clean washrooms 24/7.

Campers/vans can park for the night in the parking lot. Paid 100 pesos, could have bargained but that's peanuts in the grand scheme of things. Quiet, safe, access to washroom even when the site is closed. Entrance to the falls/pools/caves is now 25 pesos per person.

Great camping to use as a base to explore Oaxaca and surrounding, with easy access to Oaxaca Centro by bus -10 pesos per head, from the parada on highway 190 on the north (campground) side in front if a little restaurant that serves one of the best pollo en mole negro. Look for a green and white bus that says Centro, and get off near Estadio Eduardo Vasconcelos, then walk about a mile to Centro). Return is the reverse, ask the driver to stop at Lachigolo. Same bus stops at Santa Maria del Tule to see the Tule tree. To go to Tlocolula de Matamoros where the Sunday market is a must see, take the same green and white bus on the other side of the highway, get off at Tlocolula stop, and walk down the main street on the right). Same bus goes to Mitla but I recommend booking a day tour (10 am to 7pm) with Optimus Tours by dropping in at their office beside the Zocalo de Oaxaca a day or two ahead. 200 pesos to see the Tule tree, a very fascinating artisanal carpet maker, a small fabrica de mezcal, Mitla, Hierve el Agua. Same price for the other tour that includes Monte Alban and 3 other sites. campground might be closed from April 15 to October so inquire with Del before heading there.

Nice little campground with room for a few small rigs no bigger than a pickup truck with camper or small European class C RV. If you rely on internet to work on the road, you might want to turn the unreliable/non-functionning internet into a plus and instead enjoy the beautiful little beach. Little seafood restaurants and basic supplies nearby. Good snorkeling, swimming, shore fishing. A+

Free parking lot, ok if you must absolutely stay in the resort area of Huatulco, busy on weekends but quiet the rest of the weeks. Paying showers and WC nearby, closing around 7 or 8 PM. If you decide to stay, park where you can during the day, then move as far as you can from the beach access for peace and privacy once everyone leaves, otherwise if you stay near the entrance like we did, you'll be waken up early by the vendors and taxi drivers dropping workers early in the morning.

Nice beach frequented by locals on weekends, we camped by the two small huts where a group of young people were hanging out until late, they were quiet and friendly. If you are into surfing, waves are all over the place and not good for that.

Empty pasture at the end of the Playa Ventura. Fine for a few nights. Nice beach with mild surf.

Nice camping areas along the dirt road leading to the restaurant, which wasnt open on a weekday. Two campervan were already occupying the site so we camped under the trees by the trail. Quiet, appears safe enough although locals say it is not safe to camp except in campgrounds.

Pretty much perfect. Location, amenities, cleanliness, peace and quiet. The beach a hundred meters down is picture-perfect, with nobody for miles, and a perfect surf. Add a great host, Sandy, and you won't want to leave.

Playa Chica is a great beach, very secluded and beautiful. No cell service. Do not drive down past the beach entrance to turn around, the sand is very soft and we got stuck badly as we were turning around on the beach. Out of nowhere, Jesus -I am sure it was him, appeared like a knight in a shining armor, dropped his machete, and rushed to the village on his motorcycle to get a tractor. He didnt give up on us for three full and sweaty hours until we were out. Fun times.

Beautiful beach, quiet, and very clean. Nobody came while we were camped.

Good campground, clean washrooms, hot showers, decent internet, paid 300 pesos in a pickup truck/camper, not bad considering the lack of good boondocking options in the area.

Still one of the best free camping sites in the area on the shore of a nice river. More camp spots further down the road. Fire pits, tables, pit toilets. Pack in Pack out.

No longer open to wild camping due to tree logging.

Still a good camp spot for a night or two. The logging road is now closed to vehicular traffic but you can hike up and tent camp further along the ridge of the creek.

More people, more garbage, sadly this beautiful stretch of beach is seeing a lot of abuse lately. Please stay off the dunes.

Still one of the most beautiful beach camping spot but it has become even dirtier since my last visit.

Just a remark to clarify an earlier comment: the caretaker of the place, Felipe, is not a little strange. He has a developmental disabilities and is hard of hearing but he is otherwise very nice and helpful.

Update: Site has been cleared for house construction and the beach access road no longer offers privacy. Stealth camping in van or truck still possible. Tent camping on the beach.

Great spot as always, perfect for one or several nights.

A multitude good spots along the Schultz Pass RD and Lockett within the National Forest. Very quiet, flat. fire ring (when fires permitted).
