March 2nd, 2019 Banco Rojo: Best burgers!

Wow! Unassuming burger joint. Vegetarian options. 2 lots of tacos + 2 beers = 560ARG. Think we'll be coming back again!

February 9th, 2019 Parilla

Good value for money. Still only opens at 9pm in the evening. Open at lunchtime too.

February 7th, 2019 Immigraction + Customs Chile Argentina

Chile to Argentina:

The Argentina food control asked to see proof of vaccination against yellow fever.

February 5th, 2019 chui chui restaurant

We should have gone for the set 3-course menu but instead went for a main 'a lo pobre'. Made the mistake of ordering a chuleta which turned out to be fish rather than pork. Portions are huge and one main can easily feed 2 people.

The food wasn't great and we paid gringo prices: 8k + 12k CLP for the food and 2.2k CLP for a large bottle of coke. There are plenty of other places to eat along this street.

February 1st, 2019 Lavanderia Edwards

1,500 CLP per kilo. Ready in half a day.

January 30th, 2019 Unimarc Supermarket

Good selection of food, but it is dry (no alcohol) when we were there which is a bit strange.

There is an off-licence / liquor store on the corner between Juan Guillermo Riveros and Cousiño where we got beer (head left from Unimarc, take the first right and then right again). Can walk there from the supermarket.

January 30th, 2019 Granito Orbicular Beach

Spent a peaceful night here under the stars with the sound of the crashing waves. There is a track on the coastline which is good for walking/running and there is good mobile network coverage (Entel).

A few visitors during the day but empty at night apart from the guardian.

January 28th, 2019 Camping El Chivato

As described in other comments. One of the best showers we've had. Price has gone up to 12,500CLP per person per night.

December 4th, 2018 Trailhead for Camp. Neozelandès etc.

Bad news: Conaf or the private land owners have gotten wise and now this entry to the hike is paying too. 10,000 CLP per person for the day hike and 23,000 for the 4-day hike.

There is a wooden stile (ladder) over the fence from the road. In <1 km the is a red tent where the Guardia are, and where you have to pay and register.

It is possible the Guardia stay there overnight, so going early in order to escape paying the fee may be futile...

The hike is gorgeous but very slow going up the scree and boulders.

November 14th, 2018 Southern access road to Reserva Natural La Payunia

This track gives you an awesome view of the Payún Liso / Cerro Payún volcano. The coordinates from the first post are helpful, thanks.

This track is season depending: the deep drainage channels mentioned in the first post were mostly filled up (until the next rains) and the drive could be done with high clearance 2WD. Track does tilt sideways on occasion (we were worried about going over sideways). Good tread on tyres needed due to the loose sharp rocks.

November 13th, 2018 Shortcut from main gravel road to volcano viewpoint

We took this shortcut from the main gravel road to the volcano viewpoint (also marked on iOverlander) using Maps.Me. This is for 4x4 only and no vans. I wouldn't attempt this is wet weather or after rains.

The track soon after the turn is washed out by some steep ditches. There are diversions - follow the tyre marks - but you will still need to go down into those ditches. So much fun!

Further on the track is getting washed away to the side, but passable for the moment.

We needed our low gears to get up the volcano and a had our differentials locked too.

Enjoy!

November 13th, 2018 End of Circuito Turistico Payunia

A nice place as described in the first post. Offers a little wind protection and amazing views!

November 4th, 2018 Paso Pircas Negras

Pass is open for this season as of 5th November 2018.

We arrived the day before it opened so please check before you come up here. Friendly staff.

November 2nd, 2018 Border Checkpoint Argentina paso San Fransisco

Easy Argentina border crossing.

We bought petrol/nafta here. It's 52 AR$ per litre here at the time and ~42 AR$ normally, so about 20-25% more by the aduana.

October 5th, 2018 Ecotur laguna blanca.

Nice-ish place for a stop over to break the journey. Can get busy on Sundays with families. Toilets are on the run down side and can get really nasty with lots of people using them. WiFi better the closer to the cabins. Several roofed areas for hanging out and areas on the beaches to chill out. Pedro, the owner, is very friendly. 20,000PYG per night for one person and vehicle.

A few notes: The lake water was not clear when I was there - more yellow - I guess because it has been raining. There are no shops so make sure you have all you need (food) with you. The 3km dirt track was very soft after lots of rain and was glad to have all-wheel drive - fine for 2WD if it hasn't rained hard.

September 29th, 2018 Aduana Paraguay, Pedro Juan Caballero

Can confirm it is still shut during the weekend. Open at 7am on Monday. We had the choice on the TIP to go for 30 or 90 days.

September 29th, 2018 Camping Chacurru

Expensive place at 70,000PYG per person per night. Big pool, unlevel ground, clean bathrooms, electricity available. Busy at the weekend but quiet at night.

September 14th, 2018 wild camp before poço do sucuri

Nice place for the night and you are hidden from the main dirt road. No traffic on this path when we were there. We camped a little further out as the were cattle bones around.

September 12th, 2018 Parking lot

This is not a bad spot for a night or two. Very quiet at night, busy in the mornings but not noisy. Toilets are cleaned in the morning. Don't think the police are 24/7, they leave at the park closes I guess.

September 2nd, 2018 Casa Mágica

Nice little camping spot in a beautiful part of Brazil. A few things to note: Google Maps is not detailed enough to send you to this place - we used Maps.Me. Take plenty of cash for your stay as there are no ATMs here at present. That said, some places will take cards.

The owner here is friendly and you will find all the amenities you want. The campsite is not huge, but then not many people make it all the way here. Tall rigs should be aware of tree branches.

August 27th, 2018 Belisco Camping Mutari Beach

Great campground to relax and very good value. Beach setting, friendly owners, safe, clean facilities, WiFi etc. Shady and sunny spots.

A number of other campers but there is lots of space so you're not on top of each other.

August 26th, 2018 Estacionamento Sr. Santos (Praia do Espelho)

Now 30BR per person overnight. Very busy during the day but no one else at night. Clean facilities. Short walk down to the beach.

Low cable warning in the trees: I proved to be deeply unpopular by getting caught in one of the cables and tearing it out from one of the lights (fortunately not from the houses). I was trying to find even ground to park - most of it is on a slope.

Plenty of shade from trees, but not so great for solar panels.

Dogs barking a lot but will quieten down during the night.

August 22nd, 2018 Camping Doce Mar

Loved this place! Large campground with clean facilities. Great location with gate onto the beach. Not busy during the low season - we had the whole place to ourselves, even at the weekend. Friendly owner. Sunny and shady spots. WiFi wasn't that great but that could be down to where we had parked.

August 21st, 2018 Pousada e camping porto grande

I wasn't able to find this place.

August 21st, 2018 pousada do Celsao

Quiet place about 800m away from a deserted beach. The owner wasn't there but we were given a warm welcome by the couple looking after the place. Maybe someone in the future can give a fuller description.

Plenty of space to park up and road to get here is suitable for all vehicles.

August 20th, 2018 Playa Seriba Grande

Beautiful place! Quiet spot during the night, dog walkers and fishermen during the day. No facilities but can access the WiFi from the nearby Posada. Good place for a night / stop-over.

August 19th, 2018 Posto/parada onibus- Oásis - Campos

One of the nicest station stops we have experienced. Can tuck away at the side where there is shade and grass. Facilities are clean. Can't complain for a stop-over night.

August 18th, 2018 Chef Hamburguesa Artesanal

Maybe not the best hamburger you've ever had, but will probably make your top 10. They are epic!

This semi-permanent hamburger stall serves delicious hamburgers! Look out for the red awning, white food truck and tables (don't know if I have the exact coordinates right). No fries but you won't miss them. The chef takes his time preparing them and you can enjoy a beer while you wait.

August 15th, 2018 Camping das Acerolas Buzios

Nice place with clean facilities. Water a bit smelly, cold showers and WiFi hit/miss. If you go into the front entrance you are restricted to <3m height but the is a back entrance. Can be a little noisy from the neighbours and from the buses that take you into town. 25BR per person.

August 12th, 2018 Sugar Loaf

As others have described. Cheap, safe place in the city. We paid 8BR per day. Not a restful place though: people around at night and you will get woken up by the military/trumpet in the morning.
