July 11th, 2019 Lavanderia SOS

Same day service possibel, COP 9000/kg (COP 7‘500/kg if more than 10kg in total). Friendly staff. Open monday through sunday.

July 10th, 2019 El Tizón De César

One of these typical food stalls where you can eat set meals inkl. fresh juice at lunch time for COP 11‘000 (or choose something else, more expensive from the menu). Friendly staff, decent quality of food. Gets busy from noon until 2pm.
If you happen to travel with a dirty car: There‘s a car wash just next to the restaurant (COP 30’000 for a outer wash of our RV, 6.5m long). If you drop your vehicle before eating at the restaurant they might have finished until you‘re done.

July 1st, 2019 Arie's cabins

Arie is one of the best hosts we‘ve met on our journey through SA. He will help you with virtually anything. He‘s got a nice, quiet and well organized camping spot, perfect to relax for a few days. He can also arrange various trips and/or taxi rides for you. Price still at $8 per camper + $3 per person if you would like to use a bathroom in one of his cabins. Absolutely worth it!

June 22nd, 2019 Camping Cedro (Hotel, Restaurant)

Humberto Rojano (mobile/Whatsapp: +593979356150) is a nice (english and spanish speaking) guy, he loves to receive overlanders. Ring the bell on the gate to check if Humberto is there. If he’s not there and the gate is shut upon your arrival, you may open it yourself and drive in (Humberto told me to write this into the comments here). Watch the ceiling and the corners while driving in.
The place offers all facilities except for cooking and washing dishes. Humberto promised to install a sink in the toillet/shower as soon as possible. There‘s 110V and 220V electricity. You need a US-adaptor in order to connect to the 220V plug. We thought it was by far the most convenient place to stay in baños with a RV, the center close by within walking distance. $10 for our family of 5.

June 21st, 2019 Swiss Bistro

We had cheese fondue with a Swiss group of 7 (4 adults and 3 kids). The fondue sure has it‘s price: 19$ for the „classica“ per portion (200g). A delicious chocolate fondue with a good selection of fruits was included for desert. We spent e very nice and perfect evening in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Quality and variety of food was good (appetizer on the house, bread, potatos, fresh tomatos, pepper mill). We can definitely recomend the place!

June 20th, 2019 Electro Servicio Altamirano

We had an issue with our Fiat Ducato (main connection to the battery failed). This is the place if you have any electrical problems with your vehicle. We’ve talked to some other customers while waiting, some of them came a very long way from the coast to get their issue solved. Owner Carlos Altamirano is a clever and speedy guy with a good staff (mobile/whatsapp: +593 99 349 3218). Clean and organized place. Price: One guy working for 1.5 hours, $10.

June 18th, 2019 Congas

Ask for Wilmer, he‘s the man. We were asking to fill a Swiss gas bottle of 12kg, had all possible adaptors available. Was done in no time. They charged 5$. Very friendly and welcoming staff.

June 17th, 2019 Jardin Suizo - Hosteria & Camping

An awesome paradise for all travellers and especially for overlanders. In all those years Samy doesn’t seem to have lost one bit of his „swissness“, he maintains his place perfectly. He’s got every facility available that you‘ll need, nice and clean (there‘s also 220V electricity). We won‘t forget the fresh buns in the morning, just delicious! Don‘t miss the walk through the beautiful garden with Samy, he knows a lot about his plants.
If the weather had been better, we would have stayed for a veeeeeery long time. Samy is just a lovely host who cares for his guests as much as he can.

June 15th, 2019 Hostal Puerto Engabao surf shelter

Cozy and non-touristy spot. Daniel and his wife Nadja are lovely hosts. Our kids had a lot of fun while playing with their kids. Good news: the height restricting pole at the entrance gate is finally gone, Daniel took it off so we could enter with our RV. Only 110V electricity. Daniel took our whole family to the beach for a beginner surf lesson, he’s a superb surf instructor, especially for kids! He knows a lot of stuff around the surfer’s scene which is interesting if you’re not familiar with this sport. He‘s got all equipment available at the surf shelter.
Prices for staying as well as for surf lessons are more than reasonable. We were sad to leave. Definitely worth visiting, with or without kids.

June 14th, 2019 TapiForm Upholstery

This is a small but fine upholstery shop. Owner Francisco (Whatsapp +593 99 338 6272) not only does a careful job, he‘s a very friendly and calm guy. If you need some work done on your car seats or any kind of cushion, this is the place to go. Francisco will try to find a solution for you. We got the backside of 3 big and one smaller cushion done for $45. Work was done very accurately. Definitely two thumbs up for TapiForm.

June 13th, 2019 Cabañas Yanuncay

We paid $15 per night for 2 adults and three kids (4/6/9) in our RV. Facilities are clean and ok. Grasfield is not levelled and can be annoying when it‘s muddy and wet (and it rains quite often in winter). Umberto and Maria are nice hosts, they are helpful with any kind of information. We‘d go there again.

June 9th, 2019 Complejo deportivo el arenal

We agree with all descriptions below, still $5pppn (only adults, our 3 kids were free). Royer and his family are very kind, they do their utmost to make you feel at home. Royer now wants to build spots with shade for rigs and plugs with 220V electricity. Be careful if you park your car near the unfinished concrete building. There are tons of nails on the ground (I kindly asked Royer to remove them as soon as possible).

June 2nd, 2019 Bracamonte Hotel/camping, Huanchaco

We parked our RV for free outside since we couldn‘t enter the parking lot due to hight restrictions. No safety worries, they’ve got cameras outside. They charge 15 soles pp. to use the pool. They have toilets with showers close to the restaurant area. On the second floor you’re free to use the pool- and pingpong-table. Our kids loved the little playground in the garden. Excellent restaurant and very friendly staff.

May 30th, 2019 Club Suizo

Still USD 10 per night and camper. Large parking on solid ground, no water or electricity available at sight. Next to a huge sports complex and family playground in the back, toilets available there as well. Perfect if you stay with kids. Usually only for Swiss citizens. If they have enough space travellers from other countries could try as well (just talk to the administration).

May 30th, 2019 popolo

Delicious pizza and lasagna, fair prices, very friendly staff. Would go back any time.

May 29th, 2019 Touring club Peru Lima

Still the same price (1 x entrance fee of 10 soles pp, 50 soles per night and camper). Very far away from the center, taxi will charge 60 soles to the plaza de armas, 90 soles to the airport + tolls of soles 5.50 each way (if you need a taxi call/text Chaley, he’s a nice guy and a resposible driver. Whatsapp: +51 991 137 935). We were the only ones on this large compound as it was low season. Didn‘t feel very welcome as administration is apparently not used to non peruvian visitors and has no sense of providing services. We stayed 4 days and left the car for another 6 days there because we travelled to the jungle by plane. Price of 50 soles for every single night was not negociable, even for a total of 10 (!) nights. Facilities are ok, security guys are all nice and still: We cannot recommend the place and wouldn‘t go there again. The „Club Suizo“ in Miraflores is the better option in any regard.

May 18th, 2019 Ecocamp Huacachina

Paid 60 Soles/night for our RV (2 adults + 3 kids). Very nice setup just next to the dunes, perfectly clean facilities. Price is ok considering what you get.

May 13th, 2019 Limatambo main square

Spent a very quiet and secure night at the plaza. There was a security guard from the community present at night.

May 11th, 2019 Lavanderia

Lavanderia charges 4 soles/kg, only next day service. Unfortunately very unreliable service, laundry wasn‘t ready the next day (apparently staff didn‘t show up to open the shop). Even on the third day (ready to travel onwards) we had to wait for another hour in the morning until the laundry was brought from another place. Not recommended.

May 11th, 2019 Good laundry

This place doesn‘t exist any longer. It‘s now a organic food store.

May 10th, 2019 Hotel San Juan de Dios

Perfect place to stay with a RV: Safe parking behind the hotel building (watch the corner of the building when driving to the parking lot), entrance secured 24/7, friendly staff. There is a water tap available in the garden. If you need electricity, they‘ll let you plug in behind the back door entrance at the bar (you can open the window next to the bar just a little bit in order to pass your cable through). Need a shower? They‘ll usually give you access to the hotel room next to the men‘s toilet near the reception - make sure to get prior permission.
They didn‘t arrange any tours to Machu Picchu when we were there. Taxis available outside, ride to the center for 5 Soles (may be 6-7 Soles at night when you return). Big shopping (Plaza Vea) center just 5min away (take the upper way, much quicker). 60 Soles/night, fair price for what you get.

May 2nd, 2019 Lavanderia

Still 4 Soles/kg, nice and friendly one day service, nothing missing. Laundry service at Las Mercedes Camping is currently at 8 Soles/kg...

April 29th, 2019 Carpark Mirador Cruz de Cura

Perfect spot for Condor watching in the morning and in the late afternoon. Didn‘t get much sleep though as one cow kept bugging our camping car several times during the night.

April 28th, 2019 Posada del colca

Still 30 Soles per camping car. Rather unfriendly reception - we don‘t know how happy they are if overlanders are „blocking“ their secure parking which is mostly used by tour buses. Clean bathrooms, no showers available, no electricity in the parking area. Close to the main square.

April 26th, 2019 Tour to Uros islands with Roger or other local

Roger‘s son William is a very knowledgable and caring guide with a fantastic personality. Relaxed and personalized tour, no crowdy visitor-hustle. We (family of five) payed 15 Soles per person, absolutely worth it. Would hire William anytime again!

April 16th, 2019 Hotel Oberland

Now 70 BOL per person, indoor-pool ready to be used.

April 15th, 2019 Poopó

Spent a relatively quiet night in front of the hotel (our mobilehome was too high to enter the secured parking lot ). Felt safe. Were allowed to use the toillets in the morning on the first floor of the hotel.

April 14th, 2019 Emilio Lopez's House

Emilio and his wife are lovely hosts. Still 50 BOL per night and vehicle. Emilio took our family (2 adults and 3 kids) on a daytour to the salar for 600 BOL (all inkl.). Taxi to and from the center of Uyuni 3-5 BOL per person (kids don‘t count).

April 9th, 2019 Calama Camping Extraccion

Quiet and clean camping, no other campers around. Not much going on these days. Gate entrance secured 24/7. We are a family travelling in a camping car (2 adults, 3 kids), payed CLP 20‘000 for 2 nights. Visa Credit card accepted.

April 9th, 2019 Lavanderia Julieta

Good same day service, neat and clean, nothing missing. Friendly staff. Asked for ARS 400, negotiated 350 ARS for one full basket.
