October 18th, 2017 Hidden alley with a view

A quiet side street next to some apartments with space to park on the street. Currently an open field on the right that lets you see to the ocean. It is a nice quiet alternative to the other spots in Salinas.

October 13th, 2017 Animal Rehabilitation Center

The only animal rehabilitation center in Ecuador. Come see the recovering turtles, blue footed boobies and more. They aren't sponsored by the government so come help by picking up trash on the beach, a small donation or just seeing the wonderful work these people are doing!

October 13th, 2017 Malecon Puerto Lopez

The parking lot adjacent to the Victor Hugo hotel. Nice, save town with a great vibe. We purchased the Isla plata tour through the hotel and they allowed us to use the toilet while we were here. 100% worth it!! Password for 'hotspot' wifi: login:H1, password: pvhr2016

September 11th, 2017 Parador Rojo

A nice rest stop with food, bathrooms, showers and a place to park for the night. Nothing fancy, but quite and a descent spot between Cali and the coffee region.
wifi (Sept 2017): Puribe113

July 27th, 2017 The Rock Shelter / Refugio La Roca

Don't bother coming here. Like others said 20,000pp on unlevel ground. We came looking to climb, but it is a 'club' and you can only enter is you stay at one of 4 hostels (which all over charge). It is a rip off, there are plenty of other good places to climb in Colombia which aren't so exclusive.

July 5th, 2017 Seguros Internacionales

You can renew your vehicle insurance here for $15/mo. Fast service

May 19th, 2017 Boca Barranca Parking

Safe parking in front of the world class wave. you can spend the night for 5000 o park for the day for 1500. they have cabanas to rent too.

May 15th, 2017 Playa Hermosa

We camped at the public beach access for two days. Gorgeous beach with lots of shade and good beginner surf. It is currently low season, so not sure what the police would say during a different time of the year.

May 12th, 2017 Playa Pochote

We arrived after dark on our way to Santa Teresa. It is a nice beach/river mouth to spend one night for free. Calm bay in a small safe fishing village.

May 1st, 2017 River Crossing

UPDATE (May, 1, '17) River is currently around 2ft deep. Went up to just below my knees. Most SUV type vehicles were passing just fine.

April 29th, 2017 River crossing

Small pond. can be avoided on the edges

April 18th, 2017 El Rincon de la Vieja NP (Santa Maria sector)

Great day here at the NP. They are paving the road, so any car can make it up. We enjoyed the sulphur pools and swimming underneath the waterfalls! We even saw two toucans!

March 30th, 2017 Finca San Cristobal

Prices are $5/person for the entry. They will show you the trailhead and don't require that you take a guide but will guide you if you want. Recommend coming up the night before to sleep in the cool mountain air. Photo attached with phone number for more info.

March 30th, 2017 Finca San Cristobal

Trailhead to hike the volcano San Cristobal. They can accommodate tents and have a hotel. They offered us to sleep in our vehicle as well. The road to get here is high clearance and 4x4 ( we have a vanagon syncro). Beautiful spot and worth the trip if your vehicle is correct.

March 16th, 2017 Casa de Cristal

Great little spot to wake up and see beautiful views of the volcanos and ocean. When arriving, there is a green gate with a welcome sign on an old big tire. The sign for casa cristal is very small and on the right. GPS coordinates are wrong. They bring you to a different posada. $2/ person and $2/ vehicle. They guard tried to overcharge but it should be $6 for one car and 2 people. We recommend! It has been great!

March 12th, 2017 Deliciosos Tacos

Great tacos in Guatemala on the drive down to the beach! 4x15Q. Nice guy cooking and did I mention delicious!!!!

March 4th, 2017 24hr Hotel with secure parking

A 24 hr Hotel with secure parking, bathrooms and hammocks to hang out in. They seem to be an event venue, but had nothing going on the night we came. They have ample parking secured by a gate and a restaurant on-site. 50Q to park, 120Q for a room with private bathroom& shower. There are outdoor open air showers in the back corner (closest to the entry door).

March 3rd, 2017 Guys, fixers most likely, asking for TIP

100% a scam. We told them we were going to the beach and they stopped pressing us for papers. There are multiple locations for scam stops like this.

March 1st, 2017 Cocoleoco | Conception Bamba

We stayed two nights here. Very friendly staff and chill vibes. It was just like others described; 50 pp with bucket flush and bucket showers. They have a restaurant on-site that is incredibly expensive. Bring your own food. During the high season they charge surfers to use the beach, but Leo said you can bargain if you are there multiple nights. No wifi, no hookups but electric outlets for phones in the restaurant area.

We heard from others that cabañas are 250/pp. There is another spot to stay in town that advertised AC.

February 26th, 2017 Playa Majon

Beautiful little quiet beach. Almost no one here except surfers that come for morning/evening waves. 2 nice places to camp, one all the way down before the hill to the houses or to the right of the hotel. We would have stayed longer had we brought more food. Highly recommend!

February 25th, 2017 Parking lot beside "El Capi"

Nice spot at the end of a beautiful beach/ bay. The bathrooms are kept clean and the folks watching the place are kind. This beach had the best snorkeling we have seen yet and a gorgeous sunrise over the ocean!

February 20th, 2017 Cabañas La Habana

This is one of the best spots we have found so far. Park steps away from the ocean with a covered space near to hang a hammock. Vendors walk by all day and there is a great taco stand across the street for a cheap dinner. What was going to be one night became 5 and we could have stayed longer! 100/nt w/o electricity.

February 2nd, 2017 Cabanas Real Del Pacifico

Place as described. The views are really beautiful and it is a safe town. The owners are friendly but charging more now. They asked 600 for a private cabaña, we talked them down to 500. Nice stopover full of hiking an views between Oaxaca and the beach!

February 1st, 2017 Parking Lot City Hall

Rolled in late to the town and parked here over night. In the morning they were annoyed that I had used the bathroom, so if you park here make sure to ask permission. Other than that super friendly hospitable town!

January 24th, 2017 Taller Aleman

A great honest, friendly, helpful mechanic from Germany. He speaks English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. 120 pesos an hour. Call or email a few days in advance to give him a heads up. His email is [email protected] and phone is 9676801896.

January 22nd, 2017 El Arcotete

This area is great! nice trails, BBQ pits, a zip line and even climbing! There are 8 routes total here on fun limestone.

10pp for park entry and 25pp if you want to stay overnight. Bathrooms, tienda and little restaurant. Caves cost an additional 10pp.

January 16th, 2017 Parque de los Volcanes

A nice park by the river with picnic area and hiking trail. Good place to make lunch and hang out for a few hours.

November 20th, 2016 San Augustín

We stopped here at 8am to have breakfast and within 20min the police came by to tell us the area is unsafe. They said assaults are known to happen here.

November 19th, 2016 Gas Station/truck stop

Large truck stop with mini restaurant. Ask about parking for the night and pay the night guard a tip (10-15qz). Safe place, but noisy and busy. There are nice toilets that are free to use. A soccer field next to the station brings in locals in the evening.
