I wasn't able to find this place.

June 23rd, 2017 From Sucre to Cochabamba

Sucre to Aiquiles is very good road, took around 3hrs. cost: 10 bob

June 23rd, 2017 Road block 07.00-11.30/13.00-17.30

No roadblock anymore. Still a dusty, bumpy long ride for the 100km-long road from outside of Aquile to Palizada where you will average around 20-30km/h. However, you no longer have to wait for roadblock.

June 23rd, 2017 El tejar - parking lot

This is a very large, flat parking space at an old train station. its very quiet (apart from neighbouring military school bugle call and marching band in morning!) and has two large soccer pitches for kids (or dogs) to run about. There are two small tiendas. Very quiet, great spot.

June 19th, 2017 Ferrocaril, caserne militaire

This is a small street with the military barracks at the end (dead end so no traffic). Its right opposite hotel tonino with minuteman restaurant and their famous pizza and is an easy and safe place to park for the night. Free

June 16th, 2017 Camping Alberto and Felicidad

A small, peaceful and sunny garden very close to centre, with good WiFi, easy access for big rigs, and very friendly hosts (who don't live on site). 100 bolivianos /car. We thoroughly enjoyed this stop and fully recommend especially if you need a break from boondocking.

June 14th, 2017 YPFB Gaz station

No discussion, no negotiation, foreigner's price of 8.69/L.

June 13th, 2017 Hot Pool

Very hot water and very clean. You can also take a shower off the side of the pool. Much warmer than ojo del Inca. We paid 4bob each.

May 26th, 2017 Reserva National de Pampas Galeras

This is a really nice place to visit with a small museum with photos, many stuffed local animals and birds and an explanation of the chaccu ceremony (muster for shearing the vicunas). You can also see many vicunas (type of small llama with very soft wool). All is free and the volunteer guides are very welcoming. A great place for picnic or lunch at comedor opposite, and would be a perfect place to stay if you are not affected by the altitude.

May 26th, 2017 Hostal Arcangel

This place has closed.

May 25th, 2017 Palpa Lines Viewtower

The attendent didn't want us to camp here as there is nobody there overnight and he said it wasn't necessarily safe. there is a service station 8km south that has a very big spot for parking overnight. Otherwise the mirador and explanations are pretty interesting to see.

May 25th, 2017 bodega de pisco y restaurante el catador

Indeed, this is a really nice place to stop with very friendly staff. There is a short free visit to the grape press and explanation of the fermentation process, then free tasting of a couple of pisco s and a couple of wines. Lunch menu is 27soles. The make you feel very welcome and you can stay the night in the parking lot whether or not you have bought something or eaten at the restaurant. Free WiFi, clean toilets.

May 15th, 2017 CEBAF Peru-Ecuador border

If you have already handed in your TIP up the road to exit Ecuador- you do not need to stop here.

May 15th, 2017 Ecuador Aduana Control

This is the first stop when leaving Ecuador to cancel TIP. Even if it looks like you can't turn in, come here first. Take a picture of cancelled permit (photocopy broken).

May 14th, 2017 Safe camping at beach

You can park next to Pepe Rodriguez' Cabanas el Rinconcito for a small donation. A quiet fisherman's beach and Pepe can organise boat tours to surrounding islands. We did not use toilets and showers as they were just plastic buckets.. closest cheap camp to the beautiful Playa los frailes.

May 9th, 2017 hospital ***no longer available**

The security guard said you are not allowed to stay here. He was shutting and locking the gates as we arrived at 6pm.

May 9th, 2017 Paseo de los Monos

A really great animal rescue centre to visit ($3/$1.50) and you can camp at the parking lot of the family who live opposite ($1). Ivan and Lisette are extremely welcoming, will teach you all about the different monkeys, turtles, birds, wild pigs, coatis etc... They also currently have two baby monkeys living in their house so a great chance for kids to cuddle a monkey or feed with bottle. They are happy for travellers to stay a few days and help around the centre, or just to visit. The river is beautiful for swimming. Highly recommended stop!

May 7th, 2017 Hanging Bridge Max. 10to / 2.5mtr. High

There are now bars across the bridge to Misahualli and only cars (Max 2 metres) can get through. Not sure whether this is temporary but certainly when we visited (may 2017) there was NO access to misahualli for campers. Two bridges have bars and the other bridge is down. You can park your car at the bridge and walk over.

May 7th, 2017 Canoe Launch

a small parking lot ($2-$3) from which you can take a boat to AmaZoonico ($10 return for boat, $4 entry/pp). its about 30mins from misahualli, 5km of gravel after end of tarmac.

May 4th, 2017 Graham Kersey's garden centre

this is the access road to Graham (Australian) and Amalia's (Colombian) house, where they welcome overlanders and give them full use of an apartment with double room, bathroom and kitchen - for free. They have a lovely view out over Ibarra and are extremely welcoming! it was a great stop for us and our kids who enjoyed playing with their 4-yr old daughter. other details: WiFi, laundry, 100v, 200v, hot showers, water all available for free.
I added this IO entry on the access road as otherwise his campsite is hidden by an icon for a mechanic (which is in the wrong location anyway). just keep heading up this road and his brick coloured house is at the top on the right (check other IO entry for exact coordinates).

May 3rd, 2017 Torno- Welder Mechanic

this welder came out to the campsite (graham kersey's garden centre) to fix and weld, but he is not situated here. this point overlaps with this fantastic free campsite at Graham's and should be completely removed. Pedro can be found in otavalo.

May 3rd, 2017 Lake Cuicocha Viewpoint

A beautiful spot to view the lake and volcano in the background. you have to park on the side of the road and walk up 50m. there is a walking path that leaves from up there.

May 3rd, 2017 Parque Condor

Very nice park with lots of local birds of prey including Condors. Flight demonstration at 11:30 and 15:30. entrance $4.50

April 29th, 2017 Mamma Mia

This place is permanently closed.

April 25th, 2017 Steel horse Colombia

We had a great stop here, its a really relaxed and restful place with lovely hosts. The track in is a little tight, but we made it with our 7.5m camper. The road is being upgraded. very reasonably priced meals and beer available. Large washing machine 10000p.

April 18th, 2017 Feijoa Capital of Colombia!

This sleepy little town, two minutes from the main road is the Feijoa capital of Colombia. Around the pretty main square you can buy all sorts of Feijoa products- chocolates, arequipe, candies, and even Feijoa wine. We recommend the Feijoa ice cream, the mermelada and of course the fruit itself. We parked our camper and spent the night just off the main square - friendly people and a great stop for Feijoa lovers!

April 17th, 2017 Gragos Gas Refill

Yes! The very friendly attendant happily filled our two US bottles for 38000 pesos - 35lbs in total- and it was past 5 o'clock!

April 15th, 2017 Balneario Pescaderito

This is a really nice place with a series of swimming holes and natural water slides. You can camp at the balneario for 10000 and use their rather dirty facilities, or we parked in the parking lot opposite and paid 5000. no facilities apart from a small shop at the balneario. Lots of people on weekend. Walk up the river a bit as the swimming holes get better further up. we found a fantastic swimming hole with small beach, rocks to jump from and shade. Access through Curuti, about 10mins driver from the town square. A highly recommended campsite!

April 13th, 2017 Could not find - finca/camping barba azul

we could not find this place. There was no blue gate on that side of the road, only a sign saying 'vendo finca'...

April 13th, 2017 terrible road- take road back up to Bosconia when leaving Mompox

this road is in really bad condition, potholes then after crossing the river it turns to a dirt road. We recommend taking road back up to bosconia when coming from or going to Mompox.
