March 22nd, 2017 Customs office- Aduana- 1st step leaving Panama

This is the first office to visit, with the correct GPS coordinates. Ignore Tea's GPS coordinates.

March 21st, 2017 Yacht Club Shelter Bay west Colon

This is a very nice Marina and a great place to prepare your car before shipping. It is not free however. They charge $ 25 per night including: access to beautiful pool, showers, toilets. Mid-range restaurant on site, reasonably priced laundry (with large machines for duvets!!), and expensive mini mart. gym access, yoga lessons, book swap, nature walks, etc... Wifi is $10 for weekly access, movistar reception is good otherwise and sim cards available at minimart. Oerlanders are only really 'tolerated' here, rather than 'welcomed'. There is a nice beach you can walk to. Access to the marina is via the free ferry from Colon.

March 20th, 2017 Tollroad Colon Info and Panapass etc

The free access (without needing a panapass) to this fast toll road to Colon is about 15 kms sth of here at Chilibre, Avenue Madden. You need a panapass even for the 500m of the corridor norte between Av.de la Paz and the turn off to the toll road to colon.

March 18th, 2017 Pipas restaurant & camping

Great place to stay- you can park in the restaurant carpark for free for a short stay (or for small charge for long stays). access to nice safe beach, bathrooms, showers and restaurant. they let you use the kitchen and electricity at night once restaurant is closed. Great stop on way to city- about 10 minutes from PanAmerican. plenty of space for big rigs and good access.

March 14th, 2017 EXIT COSTA RICA ,Paso Canoas

Rondjewereld's description below is very helpful and accurate- just one thing to add: you can save $1 commission per person by paying your Costa Rican exit tax at the machine right next to the aduana door (credit card only).

March 4th, 2017 Playa Grande

A great spot to park for the day on a beautiful, large beach with gentle surfable waves. BUT you cannot actually camp in the carpark. you will be moved on by park rangers at 6pm when they put up their barrier. you can camp just over the other side of the road and move back in the morning after the barrier is taken down at 5am. Free

March 2nd, 2017 Gas Villareal

Quick and easy place to exchange US-bought bottle (7500 colones for 26 Lb). truck comes to fill several times a week, you can get bottle filled if you are there on the right day!

February 27th, 2017 Playa Minas

A beautiful secluded beach which you will probably have to yourself at night. access road has just been graded - just the last 1km after turning off road to piratas is a bit bumpy and narrow but we had no problems in our 7.5m long/ 3.3m high large Euro camper.

February 25th, 2017 Casa Mapache

Beautiful BnB if you want a rest from the road. Gorgeous swimming pool and garden, communal kitchen area and really friendly owners. Rooms are comfortable and fully equipped with air conditioning, fridge, kitchenette, tv and large bathroom. We paid $80 for room with amazing breakfast with homemade French bread.

February 25th, 2017 water tower- free

a large reservoir where you can fill your tanks with clear water (said to be potable but we still treated).

February 4th, 2017 Finca balcon del caƱon de Somoto

We stayed two nights here with Marlon Ruiz and his extremely friendly and generous family. He offers guides for the canyon tours, or for other hiking trails. We had a very copious dinner for 2usd per person and breakfast which we had to insist to pay for... The parking space is just next to his house with access to clean toilets and shower. When you arrive at the information centre at the entrance, just say you were recommended Marlon and someone will go to find him. Staying here was a highlight, a excellent cultural and nature experience with a fantastic family.

January 7th, 2017 Carribean Restaurant Las Palmas

No longer accepts campervans. We make "too much noise" for her other clients who are paying high rates for accommodation.

January 5th, 2017 Parking Lot Tulum Ruins!!!

400 pesos for parking for a sprinter or larger camper. much better to sleep for free at Chedraui and get taxi to ruins for 80 pesos or collectivo for 20 per person.

January 4th, 2017 Chamico's

Awesome spot. Brilliant snorkelling right off beach in front of your camp site. quiet at night. During day with tourists its still possible to find a bit of beach to yourself. 100 pesos per person. kids half price. Amazing ceviche at the restaurant - worth the 300 pesos!

January 2nd, 2017 Xpu-Ha Campground Mundo Chalio

this place is very dirty! you walk across construction debris to get to toilets which are filthy and showers dont drain. No rubbish bins at camp. lots of people walking through from restaurant and beach. But, its right by a lovely beach, its cheap at 300 per site and the host Dierck is very friendly and helpful!

December 31st, 2016 Gas Imperial

large gas filling station

December 31st, 2016 Xpu-Ha Campground Mundo Chalio

This place is dirty, very dirty. Its basically part of a parking lot behind a restaurant and there is a lot of foot traffic through the campground all day and night. toilets are disgusting, showers don't drain, there are no rubbish bins and water is salty. BUT, host Dierck is very nice and helpful and the beach (behind the restaurant, not visible from the campground) is stunning. Very cheap for families at 300 pesos per site.

December 22nd, 2016 Yaxche ecocamping

Beautiful, peaceful campground with cabanas by lagoon. Swings out over water, loungers, shade, large grassy area and tables under palapas. 125p per adult; half price children, under 5 free. Hot showers, toilet seats and toilet paper! :) No hook ups. Small shop/restaurant on site. Well worth extra cost and SO much nicer than cocolitos. steep driveway but our 7.5m campervan was fine.

December 21st, 2016 Chicanna ruins parking lot - FREE

free camping in parking lot of chicanna ruins. quiet and safe. security guard on site at ruins.

December 16th, 2016 Blue Rock Restaurant

the restaurant is closed until next year (april) due to high winds but oswaldo is here and you can certainly camp. no shade, no facilities and sandflies, but a spectacular beach!

December 3rd, 2016 Overlander Oasis

An oasis in all senses of the word: calm and shady, and an excellent place to rest after days in the road! friendly hosts, good WiFi and spotless facilities.

December 2nd, 2016 El Paraiso Trailer Park

slightly run down but good facilities, large pool and big playground. 210 per site for one or two people but an extra 90 pesos per child!

December 1st, 2016 San Juan del Lago

free for 'boondockers' not requiring electricity. Large spaces but access is not easy through small village streets and steep hill. No signs, ring first - and don't follow google maps, follow the GPS coordinates from the website!!

November 29th, 2016 Sierra Chingua, Monarchfalter

no problems to camp for free at the sanctuary entrance (1.5kms gravel road after paying the parking fee). Quiet and picturesque.

November 29th, 2016 Parque Adventura La Ceja

beautiful and clean sites with amazing views, friendly hosts and fast WiFi. lots of space for large rigs or to find a quiet shady spot.
