March 21st, 2017 | Yacht Club Shelter Bay west Colon | This is a very nice Marina and a great place to prepare your car before shipping. It is not free however. They charge $ 25 per night including: access to beautiful pool, showers, toilets. Mid-range restaurant on site, reasonably priced laundry (with large machines for duvets!!), and expensive mini mart. gym access, yoga lessons, book swap, nature walks, etc... Wifi is $10 for weekly access, movistar reception is good otherwise and sim cards available at minimart. Oerlanders are only really 'tolerated' here, rather than 'welcomed'. There is a nice beach you can walk to. Access to the marina is via the free ferry from Colon. |
March 20th, 2017 | Tollroad Colon Info and Panapass etc | The free access (without needing a panapass) to this fast toll road to Colon is about 15 kms sth of here at Chilibre, Avenue Madden. You need a panapass even for the 500m of the corridor norte between Av.de la Paz and the turn off to the toll road to colon. |

March 4th, 2017 | Playa Grande | A great spot to park for the day on a beautiful, large beach with gentle surfable waves. BUT you cannot actually camp in the carpark. you will be moved on by park rangers at 6pm when they put up their barrier. you can camp just over the other side of the road and move back in the morning after the barrier is taken down at 5am. Free |

February 27th, 2017 | Playa Minas | A beautiful secluded beach which you will probably have to yourself at night. access road has just been graded - just the last 1km after turning off road to piratas is a bit bumpy and narrow but we had no problems in our 7.5m long/ 3.3m high large Euro camper. |
February 25th, 2017 | Casa Mapache | Beautiful BnB if you want a rest from the road. Gorgeous swimming pool and garden, communal kitchen area and really friendly owners. Rooms are comfortable and fully equipped with air conditioning, fridge, kitchenette, tv and large bathroom. We paid $80 for room with amazing breakfast with homemade French bread. |
February 25th, 2017 | water tower- free | a large reservoir where you can fill your tanks with clear water (said to be potable but we still treated). |
February 4th, 2017 | Finca balcon del caƱon de Somoto | We stayed two nights here with Marlon Ruiz and his extremely friendly and generous family. He offers guides for the canyon tours, or for other hiking trails. We had a very copious dinner for 2usd per person and breakfast which we had to insist to pay for... The parking space is just next to his house with access to clean toilets and shower. When you arrive at the information centre at the entrance, just say you were recommended Marlon and someone will go to find him. Staying here was a highlight, a excellent cultural and nature experience with a fantastic family. |

January 2nd, 2017 | Xpu-Ha Campground Mundo Chalio | this place is very dirty! you walk across construction debris to get to toilets which are filthy and showers dont drain. December 31st, 2016 | Gas Imperial | large gas filling station |
December 31st, 2016 | Xpu-Ha Campground Mundo Chalio | This place is dirty, very dirty. Its basically part of a parking lot behind a restaurant and there is a lot of foot traffic through the campground all day and night. toilets are disgusting, showers don't drain, there are no rubbish bins and water is salty. BUT, host Dierck is very nice and helpful and the beach (behind the restaurant, not visible from the campground) is stunning. Very cheap for families at 300 pesos per site. |
