February 27th, 2021 | Victor’s RV Park | This is our second time staying at Victor's. The dry lot was full so they had us park next to the bathrooms for 200 MX. This place was very busy, but the beach was empty and we enjoyed it. The restaurant and bar are open even with Covid. Would recommend as a safe spot to stay after crossing the border. |
February 25th, 2021 | Plomosa Road BLM camping | Stayed here one night and it was fine. Lots of other overlanders, but we followed the road closer to the Day Use area and had the spot to ourselves. No amenities, but free. Good cell service on ATT. |
February 24th, 2021 | BLM camping free! | Stayed one night here and it was fine (we preferred Craggy Wash which is a little north of LHC). Many other campers, but easy to find privacy. It was very windy when we were there. Relatively close to town and good cell service on ATT. No amenities, but free. |
February 23rd, 2021 | Havasu State Park | Still $15 to dump. The gate staff told us this is only for the dump station and does not allow you to stay in the park for the day (which would be another $15 entrance fee). No one is monitoring the dump so I imagine you could pay the $15 park entrance fee and sneak over to the dump, just sayin’ I wish that is what we would have done. Potable water is also available. |
February 19th, 2021 | Craggy Wash Camp | We stayed here five nights and loved it. Definitely a popular place, but we found a spot perched on top of a hill with a lot of privacy. Easily 100+ rigs out here, but the road goes on a long ways. Road in is in good condition and suitable for everyone. Less than 10 minutes to town. No amenities. Great cell service on ATT. And best of all, FREE! |
February 17th, 2021 | Dumont Dunes | Great dry camping spot right next to some massive sand dunes. $30 per week and you can buy the permit here at a kiosk. It is popular with OHV, so it can get loud (I’d avoid the weekends). Pit toilets available. Good cell service on ATT. |
February 16th, 2021 | Tecopa Warm Pool dispersed Camping | We loved overnighting here! The pool was warm and felt great after not having a shower in a while. We were the only ones here most of the time, but a group did show up to use the pool late at night and they were pretty loud. The road in is doable in any rig. No amenities and no cell service. |
February 16th, 2021 | Dumping of the death ;) | Free dump and water are open! Water tastes a bit like chlorine, just in case you are sensitive to it. |
February 15th, 2021 | Lake Hill Dispersed Camping | Stayed here one night and had no issues. We didn’t see any other campers, but there were several cars driving up and down the road so not totally private. This spot is about 30 minutes from Mesquite Sand Dunes and an hour from Furnace Creek. Not much else over here. No amenities and no cell service on ATT. |
February 14th, 2021 | Echo Canyon Road | Stayed here one night without issues. The road in is bumpy, but we went quite a ways up in a 2WD Sprinter. Gorgeous views of the valley. Only problem is it is hard to find a flat spot. Poor cell service on ATT with on two bars of edge. |
February 13th, 2021 | Poverty Flats | Spent another night here, but this time it was very windy. Might be hard to tent camp like this so check the forecast. Still a ton of campers in this area, but east to find a spot with privacy. No amenities. Good cell service on ATT. |
February 12th, 2021 | Kingman Wash | Not often you find a waterfront campsite for free! Quite a few people here during the day and overnight, but didn’t feel crowded. The road in is three miles off the highway and bumpy with several tight turns. We made it no problem in a 2WD Sprinter. Some people definitely come here to party, so don't expect total peace and quiet. Good cell service on ATT. |
February 11th, 2021 | Kaibab National Forest | Super convenient spot in the forest right outside Grand Canyon NP. Road in is well maintained and I imagine you could get any size rig back here. No amenities, but free! Good cell service on ATT. |
February 7th, 2021 | Galpin Auto & Rv | Free dump is still open during business hours! |
February 6th, 2021 | Forest 525 Road | Stayed here for six nights at different sites every day. Such a beautiful area! |
February 5th, 2021 | Lake Pleasant BLM | Stayed here another night without issue. Lots of people this weekend, but still not bothered by OHV or donkeys. |
February 4th, 2021 | Apache sands | Dump is $8 and open from 7 am-4 pm. Have you get the key from the attendant in the booth by the gas pumps. |
February 1st, 2021 | public land | Stayed here another four nights and had no issues. The garbage piles we saw last year have been cleaned up and no unruly neighbors this time. The views of Superstition Mountains seriously cannot be beat. We caught the most epic sunset of our lives here! No amenities. Good cell service on ATT. Free! |
January 30th, 2021 | Blm north side Snyder Hill Tucson Az | This is our second time staying here and have never had an issues. It is crowded, but easy to find a spot even in the dark or on a weekend. No amenities, but it is free. Decent cell service on ATT. |
January 29th, 2021 | Baylor Canyon road | Stayed here again and this place was very popular on a Friday night! 15+ overlanders so get here early if you plan to visit on a weekend. |
January 28th, 2021 | National Forest FREE Camping | Stayed here one night and had a lovely snowy evening. The FS road in is gravel and not plowed, but we made it in no problem in our 2WD sprinter. No amenities and no cell service on ATT. |
January 27th, 2021 | Brantley lake | There are a lot of options for camping along the lakeshore. The road is rutted and bumpy, but we made it fine in a 2WD sprinter. I’d be cautious if rain is in the forecast. Yes there is a lot of garbage, but it is New Mexico after all. Take a bag with you when you leave. No amenities. Intermittent cell service on ATT. Free! |
January 25th, 2021 | Dump and potable water | Easy straight forward dump. I googled this campground and the internet says it is temporarily closed, however we showed up and it is definitely open. |
January 25th, 2021 | Marfa Mystery Lights Viewpoint | Stayed here again and had no problems. Unless you come on a weekend there is plenty of room for everyone, no matter what time you show up. Overnighted with four other vans and had a great time. |
January 24th, 2021 | Chisos Basin Campground | Lovely campground in the Chisos Valley. Walking distance to Lost Mine and Window hiking trails. We were able to reserve a spot online the same day we showed up. Only dry camping at this campground, but potable water and flush toilets are available. $16 per night. Decent cell service on ATT. |
January 24th, 2021 | Amistad national recreation area | Love a free dump and potable water! Very easy pull-thru and close to the highway. |
January 23rd, 2021 | Rest area | Like most people said, the rest area is in the center of a divided highway so it is loud. The parking area is quite large, but we were only one of three people who stopped all night. Weak cell service on ATT. |
January 22nd, 2021 | Rest area/Visitor center | Easy and FREE dump! Water at the dump station is non-potable, but the picnic area looked to have spickets. |
January 22nd, 2021 | Nino’s truck plaza | I’d venture to say we were the only non-semi who stayed here, but we did not have any issues and it was relatively quiet. We arrived around 6 PM and most of the truck stops in this area were already full. If there is no room at Nino’s there is a Loves and Cash Travel Plaza nearby. |
January 22nd, 2021 | FS Road 150 | Private forest service road in Apalachicola National Forest. The pin takes you do a small cul de sac and we only saw one other car drive by. The road in can get bumpy with a few deep ruts. Would not recommend if rain is in the forecast, but we made it in a 2WD sprinter. No amenities and intermittent cell service on ATT. Free! |
