September 11th, 2020 willow Springs Road - blm land

This place is crazy popular. Showed up on a Friday and found a spot down by the Dinosaur Track trailhead. From our spot we can see at least 30 other vans/tents/ RV. While there is little privacy it was very quiet at night (besides a few pesky generators). This far back you don’t have cell service, but a couple spots closer to the highway do.

September 10th, 2020 Dump station

Free dump. No line at 1 PM on a Thursday.

September 10th, 2020 Salt Valley Road/ BLM 145

Great spot close to Arches. Stayed on 9/10 and 9/12 without issues. The road in is pretty washboard, but just take it slow. The side road back to the pin is a bit more spicy and high clearance is needed. Legit in the middle of no where so no amenities. Surprisingly good cell service on ATT.

September 9th, 2020 blm land outskirts of canyonland

Amazing views of red rocks and some canyons. 4WD not mandatory, but high clearance needed to make it to the end of the road. We did it in a 2WD 170 WB Sprinter and didn’t have any issues besides a few dicey spots. Very private, but no cell service on ATT. Still totally worth it!

September 8th, 2020 LaSal Mts Overlook

Many sites down this road. No camping within 4 miles of the highway and there are a lot of signs stating such. Very obvious once you get into the National Forest and after that camping is permitted. We went past the pin as this one had several other overlanders at it. No cell service on ATT the further back you go.

September 7th, 2020 Mesa verde Nationalpark (outside In BLM)

Great FREE campground near Mesa Verde National Park. We snagged site #12 which was large, private, and had a lovely view of the valley. Even on a Monday most spots were occupied so have a backup plan just in case. No amenities and spotty cell service on ATT.

September 6th, 2020 Telluride Campground

Drinking water is located behind the bathrooms in the middle of the campground. This place is super busy and we couldn’t find anyone to ask if we were allowed to fill our jugs. Did it anyways without issues, but definitely doesn’t feel like something you are supposed to do.

September 6th, 2020 Near Ouray, Co

Parked directly across from Dennis Creek trailhead which is about as far as you can go before reaching private property. Several sites along this road, but all of them were taken on a Sunday so this seems to be a popular spot. Easy access to stream if you can filter your own water. Gravel road is in fair condition so no need for high clearance or 4WD. No cell service on ATT and no amenities, but it’s free.

September 6th, 2020 Water Treatment / Telluride Dump Station

No longer free and no staff were available on the weekend. Sign says $15 for RV dump (see pic).

September 4th, 2020 Mountain View Bush Camp

Views are amazing, but it is crowded. Probably 15 van/campers/RV here all weekend. We didn’t notice many bugs so it was awesome to just hang out and leave the windows and doors open. No amenities, but good cell service. Road to the pin is in great shape, but I would not recommend going further up Last Dollar Rd unless you have high clearance and/or 4WD. We did it in our 2WD 170 sprinter and bottomed out several times. One of the sketchiest roads we’ve been on and no places to turn around so you have to keep going until the road ends.

September 3rd, 2020 Eagle BLM

Stayed one night here without issues. The beginning of the road is heavily rutted so I would recommend a high clearance vehicle at the least. Several pull outs all along this road so take your pick. This spot is very popular with mountain bikers.

August 31st, 2020 Chug water rest area

You are able to access this rest stop from both north and south bound I-25. Potable water and free dump, but no running water at dump site!

August 31st, 2020 Wyoming welcome center

This place is definitely open. Spent the night here on the semi side and there were five other RV. It is loud due to being a busy rest stop and trains nearby. Works in a pinch.

August 31st, 2020 Medicine Bow NF

Gorgeous views, but within four hours the mice found their way inside of our van! We have never had this happen before and while we were on our midnight mice destroying mission we saw at least 50 more outside. We left in the middle of the night with two new uninvited guests.

August 30th, 2020 grayrocks reservoir

This place is awesome! There are several miles of dispersed camping all along the lakeshore. Easy to find a spot and be far away from other campers. Allowed to stay for up to seven days. Dumpsters and toilets available. Can get pretty windy, but we saw lots of people using tents. No cell service on ATT. Free!

August 29th, 2020 Centennial Park on the Freedom Trail

This place was great for an overnight in Hot Springs. Two other vans spent the night and none of us appeared to have any issues. There is road construction going on right now so you have to find and follow W. River Ave to get on the right side of the creek.

August 28th, 2020 Cabela's

This Cabelas is crazy busy with travelers! Showed up on a Friday and there were at least 40 rigs here. Vans, skoolies, RV, campers, it appears all are welcome. Bonus, free dump and potable water!

August 26th, 2020 General Sibley Campground, Bismarck

Stayed here for two nights and enjoyed ourselves. We are in a self-converted sprinter van and they let us use a primative campsite ($12) with no issues. This is a great spot if you are traveling with kids as the sites are large and they have two playgrounds. Amenities include fire rings, picnic tables, potable water, dump, and free hot showers.

August 25th, 2020 Sauk Park Dump Station

Dump station at the entrance to Sauk Community Park and campground. Donations accepted.

August 25th, 2020 Sauk Community Park

Potable water spicket located at the bathroom near the campground. This is part of the community area for the park so totally legal.

August 25th, 2020 Jorgens Hollow Campground

Started charging $10 per night for primative camping as of 8/14/20. You can pay $5 per night if you have an interagency pass (we use America the Beautiful). Nestled within rolling prairies it is a quaint campground with lovely views. The gravel road to get here is well maintained. Amenities include potable water (hand pump so can be challenging to fill large containers), garbage cans, fire rings, picnic tables, and pit toilet. Very spotty service on ATT.

August 24th, 2020 Sauk River Park

Cute little community campground nestled right in the town of Melrose, MN. I can imagine this place being busy on the weekends with the playgrounds and baseball fields nearby. We showed up on a Monday and all but one RV spot was taken. RV spots are $20 per night with water and electric. We're in a self-contained sprinter van so opted for the $10 dry tent site. Very peaceful along the river with a picnic table and firering. Dumpstation available by the entrance and potable water near the bathroom.

August 21st, 2020 Minnesota Rest Stop

Rest stop as soon as you cross over from Wisconsin to Minnesota. Signs say 4 hour limit for cars and 10 hours for commercial vehicles. We are in a converted Sprinter van so are going to chance it with the semis.

Update: It was fine. Stayed longer than 10 hours, but so did several other vehicles.

August 20th, 2020 Governor Dodge State Park

We drove through just to take a look and the Twin Valley campground looks very nice with a lot of privacy between sites. No FCFS available due to COVID-19, so call 888-305-0398 for reservations. They are also not selling day passes right now so you can only access the beach if you have the annual pass which is $38.

August 20th, 2020 Pigeon Creek Campground

Large established campground near a lake that is good for non-motorized boating. Lots of privacy between sites. Toilets and potable water available. $21 per night ($16 plus taxes/fees) so a little spendy for what you get. Spotty service on ATT.

August 20th, 2020 Black river falls

I would not recommend staying here. This is an ACTIVE logging area with heavy machinery down the three roads we explored. Stay at your own risk.

August 19th, 2020 Spring Green Boat Launch

Spent one night here with no problems. Nice view of the river, but it has a very fast current so I would not recommend swimming. Showed up around 6 PM and there were still several trucks and boat trailers in the parking lot. Only one other car stayed the night, but it did not appear to be occupied. No amenities and weak service on ATT. Free!

August 18th, 2020 Illinois beach state park

This campground is open, but operating at lower capacity due to Covid-19. This place is huge and there's at least 20 FCFS site. We showed up at 5 PM on a Tuesday and were able to get a spot. Beach access, potable water, dump station, free showers, fire rings, and playground available. Good cell service on ATT. Not a bad place for $25 per night.

August 17th, 2020 Armitage

Spent one night here without issue. Such a great walkable neighborhood and easy access to L train at Fullerton or Armitage Station. Finding a spot can be difficult, but patience will pay off if you are looking for a safe place to stay right in the city.

August 16th, 2020 Blue chip Casino

Stayed here last night in our self-converted sprinter van and had no issues. We didn't check-in with security, just parked farthest from the entrance near two semis. Very quiet night.
