August 31st, 2017 Hostal "Los Faroles" Surf

Tried to charge us 15pp, but accepted 10pp when we said we have our own kitchen. Safe, nice, lots of surfers around. We could use a Cold shower and toilet in the restaurant, wifi was average. Space for about 2-3 vans max.

August 25th, 2017 Optimum Centro Técnico Automotriz

Little workshop in the suburbs. Took 45mins to change oil and filter as Fernando had to go and buy a different model for us. Oil change [7.2L] and filter cost $45. Nice guy!

August 25th, 2017 El Pedregal Azteca

Mon - Fri, 12-3, they have Menu del Día: sopa, tacos or burritos, postre and soda for $6.50 [without soup $5]

August 22nd, 2017 La Tostaduria

Closed Tuesdays

August 22nd, 2017 Montano Camping & Hostel

Nice and cheap! $3pppn. Includes secure camping, hot water showers, kitchen & fridge, place to hand wash and dry clothes. Lovely view of Volcano & mountains.

Fabricio the owner is very nice & will make sure you're comfortable, he speaks English too. 10min walk into town.

August 21st, 2017 Finca Chamanapamba Regines Café Aleman

To clarify the cost for camping in your vehicle - no cost, but you must purchase from the restaurant. Dinner $7- 10pp. Nice food, nice building and owner.

Camping is just in a carpark and can be very tight if more than a couple of campers. No power or wifi in camping spot, just in the restaurant.

August 20th, 2017 Complejo deportivo el arenal

Very nice owner. Offered free fruit! Parking/camping on gravel. Basic amenities but clean, the pool is nice. Wifi was switched off in the evening, but came back after a while.

August 19th, 2017 Hosteria La Roulotte de Mindo

They don't have much space for vehicle camping, and it is just in their gravel carpark. The rest of the place is beautiful though. Nice owner.

August 19th, 2017 Mindo Real

Beautiful place, only problem is the road down to the camping area is very rough. They let us check out the road first and we decided not to stay. $5pppn, or with pool access $9pppn.

August 18th, 2017 Free walking tour

We enjoyed the walking tour, also available at 2.30pm. However, when we were walking to the meeting point we were followed twice by some sketchy guys. Keep an eye out.

August 18th, 2017 La Bicok - Cabañas y Camping

Really beautiful place, super well set up, lovely chill area near the restaurant, nice hosts. $9ppn. Great little private verandahs. Just be aware the spaces for vehicles are very close together so can be loud depending on neighbours, and wifi doesn't work in camping area.

August 18th, 2017 Canopy Adventure

We went with Mindo Ziplines and really loved trying ziplining for the first time! Bought tickets near the Plaza in Mindo. $20pp.

August 17th, 2017 Coffeeteer

Great coffee! If you're from Australia and have been missing decent coffees, this is the place to try in Quito. Super nice owner.

August 17th, 2017 Otavalo Craft Market

While it is open every day, Saturday is the famous day when there are many more vendors.

August 16th, 2017 History of money museum

Free museum about the history of money in Ecuador. Nicely displayed, has a lot of coins and old money counting machines, and a play area for kids.

August 14th, 2017 Grahams place

What an immense privilege to stay here. Graham, Amalia and Leah are amazing hosts. We feel incredibly grateful to have stayed and to have the opportunity to meet this lovely family. Email before you go to let them know, they're incredibly laid back and hospitable.

August 11th, 2017 control policial/militar

Traveling from coast to Ibarra - first there's an army check point, they just wanted to check our passports and register our details. This one's a police check point, just asked where we were going.

August 11th, 2017 Finca Sommerwind

Nice place, nice food as described. The cars are super loud when they race [we were there on a public holiday] and so were the dogs at night/early morning. Bring a lot of bug spray, have never been bitten so much.

August 10th, 2017 Road not great

Going north the road around the coast is in great condition. Just after halfway it becomes very narrow, and is in bad condition, with some parts washed out and a lot of potholes and gravel parts. It's totally doable with 2x2 but just takes a lot longer than you'd think. Wouldn't recommend at night.

August 10th, 2017 Playa Escondida

As described, beautiful. $7pppn, cold beers $3. Wifi pw now: PESCONDIDA. Wouldn't rely on Wifi for work as it was super slow when we were there. [Sign at entrance says no pets allowed in, but not sure if campers pets are welcome].

August 9th, 2017 Very nice beach

Clean, beautiful colour, calm water, very chilled, hardly anyone around. Next to a small town. Probably could camp along the beach.

August 9th, 2017 Cocosolo

It was alright. Not the nicest part of the coast in our opinion [definitely no white sand]. Bit of rubbish on the beach. They don't want cars parked right near beach, so we were on the grass - with tons of biting ants.

Facilities are run down. Couldn't find non-salty water. Wifi slow and sometimes non-existent. $5pp or $10pp with breakfast [we didn't try it]. Not a bad place, but not the best either. We didn't get access to power.

August 7th, 2017 Macaron French bakery and patisserie

Thanks for the add!! The almond croissant and pan de chocolate were So good

August 7th, 2017 Puerto Lopez beach

Police moved us off the spot on the beach under the trees because it's a place turtles go and they're trying to protect them. We stayed just behind next to the road, off the beach. [bit noisy at night, but safe and free].

August 5th, 2017 Casa KoKopelli

Would recommend contacting via Facebook first as they were full.

August 5th, 2017 Hosteria Farallon Dillon

Best part about this place is the lovely almost private beach down below, and the pool [which we weren't charged extra for].

First night we stayed up top near the lobby so we had access to wifi and power, but it was loud. Second night we stayed in the carpark down below, no power/wifi, but you can go up to the lobby and sit there.

Nice staff, access to hot shower/bathroom. Interesting museum, and grounds.

August 4th, 2017 Kaluz Hosteria And Spa

We managed to stay for $10pp. Expensive but it was dark and the only place around. Really lovely staff. Nice grounds. Yummy breakfast. No tours. Cold showers. Wifi only works near reception, not at camp spot. But overall all a nice spot.

The road there is all paved. Maps.me wasn't showing the whole route, but there is a turn off with a tourist signpost for the Shuar community. Easy to find.

August 1st, 2017 Cevicheria Jasusi

Good place for ceviche and other seafood. Good prices (personal portions 10+). Was busy on a Tuesday afternoon, plenty of locals.

Parking opposite in front of a school.

July 31st, 2017 Catacaos artisan markets

Popular place to buy filigree silver, hats and leather goods. Reasonable prices, the silver work is very fine and very beautiful. Nice little market street and main plaza.

July 31st, 2017 PORTA VERDE

Arrived on a Monday and thought it was closed. Gate appears locked but wasn't, so we could enter and were able to stay.

Great spot. [if you need wifi try and camp close to the little bar as it doesn't reach far]. 6 dogs, all friendly.
