As others have stated, there are some solid rocks and ruts, however if you have high clearance and 2WD you’re 100% fine and this is some dunce camping in the area - sites are off the side of the road but nice and often with fire pits. You have some light pollution from the city but the Milky Way is still visible with the naked eye - some cows wander by every once in a while which was a fun plus for me too!
T mobile service ok

October 14th, 2020 Mountain Home Reservoir

Camping right on the sands of the reservoir with fishing opportunities, pit toilets, and some makeshift fire rings. It got a bit windy but the stars are stunning here and had a nice quiet night!
Sand is packed well enough for 2WD van to camp right on the water

October 4th, 2020 Riverside Park - FREE

Great spot to rest and recharge - feee showers (HOT!) and bathrooms plus steps away from the river. There are some lights above but they weren’t too bright and didn’t bother me. Full cell service t mobile

September 30th, 2020 Hartmann Rocks

What a rad place! Tons of sites, just have to explore to find one you fancy! Had cell service whole time and a great view both for sunrise and sunset, plus some great stars at night! Most roads are 2WD passable, some I’d definitely recommend high clearance as parts of the road are rutted pretty good or have some large rocks. The hill up is no joke as mentioned before, but absolutely do-able with any vehicle.

September 28th, 2020 Willow Springs Road BLM

Tons of spots down this road - I went to one of the pullouts about a quarter mile in and had full service t mobile, nice neighbors, a great view and didn’t hear anything from the highway (although it was still visible)

September 26th, 2020 Mesa verde Nationalpark (outside In BLM)

Snagged Apot #11 as many of the ones near the beginning of the road were already taken, but for a Saturday early evening there were still surprisingly about 5 spots still available. #11 offers a stellar view of some of the formations in Mesa Verde NP and is huge - several groups could definitely stay here if necessary. Sunset views are awesome - highly recommend!

September 25th, 2020 BLM at the end of the road

A few spots on the way down here but the one at the end of the road is my favorite - secluded and only room for one van/RV, maybe 2 or 3 depending on how friendly you want to be. Steps down to a second hidden spot where you can have a fire and pitch a tent, and only a few more stwps down to a beautiful spot on the San Juan. Highly recommend - get in early to make sure you secure it
