Not a very sexy choice, but there was nothing much on the road before that.
There is a guesthouse with banya and a small tire repair shop.
Petrol station just next it.

I almost hate to add a report on Mill’s Canyon as I hope it remains a well guarded secret. This place is special! Secluded, quiet, and pristine. Fortunately, it is a bumpy last few miles down to the lower campground, so maybe we can all keep this one to ourselves a little longer..

Kind of confusing place. Gate says it's a hot l but when you enter there is a little bar to the right called "Sand Bar". Not really nice guy at the bar wanted 100 pesos so I can establish my tent... Didn't stay since he was really not that friendly. But besides the beach is awesome... Maybe works for someone else. Access via muddy path. Came by motorbike. 4x4 can enter - bigger rigs probably no...

Says Hostel... but it's more like a cheap camping inside walls... they have tents but you can also use your own. 50peso... Don't expect any luxery here... Rastaman owns the place. If you are into smoking dope all day - this is probably your place. Could enter with my motorbike... I liked it...

Mauritania desert crocodiles. There are some in Mat Mata and some here. We have seen 7 in the dry season very close to us. The track to here can only be find by gps coordinates. the beginning is in the village Foum el can ask the village people for the entry to the track. there are very friendly. You have to walk the last 800m before you can easily wildcamp somewhere.
gps coordinates (stolen from kohlbach guide (which we like and recommend)) :

really enjoyed these ruins. as for me there are really different from Tikal and chitchen itza; there is less incredible architecture but there is definitely more amazing Stella and sculptures ; especially the hieroglyphics stairs. worth the stop. and as a bonus you get to see free macaws (which were freed by the mascaw rescue center that we visited too ; nice visit too). as for the tunnels we did not feel to pay extra for this. the ruins are located in a nice jungle too

Overlanders are very welcome, Renato and Cecile are very welcoming and lovely hosts.
Perfect stop over to explore the Chaco, to meet the nice inhabitants of Rosaleda and their stories. Enjoy Renato's good food. On hot days, the swimming pool and the covered veranda invite you to linger and have a break from the journey.

Nice place. You can barely hear the cars from the street. View is pretty cool.
There's two dirt roads only a few meters apart. Take the second one coming from south. It takes you further away from the hwy and has better views.
The road is kinda grown over, so oly for small vehicles.
There's a rest area with pit toilets at the hwy only 500 m away.

Gas station, restaurant and parking lot
Great place to rest and spend the night traveling with motorhome. There is a shaded parking lot behind the convenience store, with good security and no road noise. Great restaurant, snack bar, clean toilets and Wi-Fi. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay there. The camp has been overtaken by a Womens Cooperative. We paid 1000 KSH. They still use pitlatrines but built a small showerhouse with black tanks on the roof, so the water was perfect. They fill the tanks by hand! We had 3G with Safaricard. One of the women showed us the huts they built, really very nice and she was so proud that they even have electricitiy in the huts. Right next to Acacia soon opens a new Lodge, they are not very happy about that.

This is a fantastic, quiet, mystical and underused campground. Hardly anybody knows it exists and although this is fine for some of us who have been coming here for more than 35 years, the word must get out so that it continues to welcome guests. The sites are rustic but very accessible. The favourite sites are # 1 thru # 14 as these are right on Lake Huron, the Mississagi Strait. They are unserviced with the exception of 15 amp service for # 8, 9 and 10. There a few sites that have their own 15 amp service and water hookups but no sewer hookups or dumping station on site. This is an "off the grid" campground with very limited cell service, but that's it beauty. The campground is run on a seasonal basis by "Maddie" and her family and friends. Dogs allowed on leash. Boat launching is available. Water is potable. Shower and washroom on site.. Flat, clean sites will accommodate any style of camping from tents to 40 ft motorhomes. The prices are $30 per night and $40 for electrical. This place is quiet, clean and guaranteed to make you want to return time after time, Fishing is really good and I've caught Lake Trout right from the shore. The Lighthouse is fully operational guiding boaters 24 / 7 all year long. There is a common room in the Fog Horn building that makes the rare rainy day very enjoyable. I've been here twice already this year and may go a third time if I can swing it. Enjoy!

Very simple familiy owned homestay (there is a blue sign on the main road). Max. 2-3 cars fit in, we could stay in our van. As everywhere in this region the toilet is in the backyard, also shower super simple (but nice experience). People speak a little english. They also offer you food if you want to.

Very nice place in the middle of vineyard. We paid 15000 pesos for one campervan with 5 people in it. Toilet, hot shower, electricity and water. We also did laundry for 5000 pesos per charge. Had great time there with very nice people. We came back just to do the solar tour with our children.

A little hard to find. Google will probably try to send you down the wrong way. It's a left turn just before the archway/ entrance to the park. Sort of confusing when we were trying to figure out who to pay, but we talked to a few different people and figured it out. We stayed two nights. 30 pesos/person/night. Toilets not very clean, no seats, but at least had running water. The shower had good pressure and honestly was pretty refreshing in the July heat... Just try to ignore the bugs. Restaurants and bars close by, not the cheapest food but tasty. Pretty cheap beers. Good spot to check out the ruins.

We were exiting Colombia and entering Ecuador. There are now separate queues for Venezuelan and other foreigners, so although there was a lot of people waiting for us it was fast and smooth. They just ask for your passport and stamp it. Looks like you can go to the DIAN to hand in your permit (and this is all you have to do there, nothing more) before or after Migrations, but I think it's better to do the latter first.

We were entering Ecuador. Past Migrations, turning left, there is a small parking lot, but it was full we ended up leaving the car across the street where the "no parking" signs are :) Migrations was easy and fast since looks like Ecuador is also splitting queues for Venezuelans and other foreigners. Exit Migrations and turn right to find Customs. Looks like the right stand for importing your vehicle is number 2. They'll ask for the vehicle registration, driver's license, passport of the owner, and a photo of the vehicle plate *taken with a phone they'll give you right there* so no point in taking your own photo before. No copies needed, they'll take a picture of everything. No payments. They told us that insurance is not mandatory in Ecuador and we didn't see any insurance company around.

Nosotros ingresamos a Ecuador.

As said, quiet and safe place for the night. Very friendly guards told us we could stay for the night when we arrived at 20:00 - they even gave us a small Quechua lesson 😉

As the parking lot is quite big, our little cat could run around for 2hours, nice after a day in the van.

The only problem was : why when you sleep in a touristic place in Peru, people are always very kind BUT have to come and awake you at 6:00 am ? 😭😭😭 The guards came at this time to make us register. The other night, in an other place, they came at the same time to tell us the next turn was arriving.

Why so early guys ?
