The English speaking archeologist has left but there is another young woman and her husband on site and she will happily show you around. She doesn't speak English but has lots of pictures, renderings, and maps to show along the tour. You'll also enter their work shop with some artifacts and an unexcavated skeleton if I understood correctly. Free and took 30 minutes. Like the others..We waited at the barbed wire gate for a little bit, then just walked in and there she was!

Parked right out front. We had great weather and amazing views. Fast internet. Felt like we were sitting in a cafe in Oregon. Great food. Pricey like all of Chile.

Paid 8,000 Chilean pesos per person including our kids (8 and 6 years old) for two nights. By far the highest price we’ve paid this trip. In hindsight would have wild camped. However owner Ingrid very nice. Sinks to wash dishes and clothes. Showers and toilets dirty. Warm water limited hours (fluctuated between warm and cold). Road noise.
Positives are lots of shade and trees. Close to town and lake. Small play area for kids. Pretty, clear river runs through campground. Tons of parrots.

Today a sad news: a backpacker, Miss Catherine Shaw, was found dead.
Police in Guatemala said the body of a missing Brit was found in a mountainous area of a viewpoint known as the 'Indian nose' in San Juan la Laguna Solola.

The Policia Nacional Civil have launched a criminal investigation to try and determine what happened.

A Facebook page called 'Finding Catherine Shaw' has posted: "Our diligent searchers have found Catherine Shaw’s body at the top of El Naudiz in San Juan La Laguna.

What we know is that she disappeared during the night, between San Pedro and her eco-hostel.

please be super careful and don't visit this area without a guided tour. Don't drive or take tuk-tuks at night, especially alone.

Our overlanding community mourns her lost and our condolences go to family, friends and beloved ones.

Take Canyon Rd to Mt. Baldy and follow it to get there, it’s in kind of a valley, cute spot, surrounded by the road, but the roads don’t seem busy.
Very much snowed in for the winter, would only suggest for summer and fall.

We parked just on the road,in front of the beach. Nice and quiet spot, near to the village and lighthouse. No problems with the people who lives there and the hotels. You can ask them potable water.
If you like surf, this is the spot

Beautiful place, but actually quite a few people around who are working on the tomato fields and came to have a look, all very friendly and highly amused by the visit. Friendly owner of the field named Bohousgon joined as well and asked a little contribution, gave him 1000 cfa of spare change.
In the morning the workers arrived again and drank coffee with me. Still a very nice place to camp.

small site next to a small street heading from the Panamericana to a little village. since it is underneath the Panam, it is not as loud as right next to it. only place we found.
interesting for cycletravellors who want to split the mountain. but be careful with the spiky plant growing on the ground

Indeed nice to see them actually working in the kitchen and the empanadas were okay. Not extraordinary and definitely not comparable with the Argentinian ones..

we've got a problem with the alternador and motor de arranque ( haha sorry don't remember how to say it in English and not WiFi available) and Sr Pila and son took care of it. Both very professional and reliable, they took out both parts, fixed the issue and cleaning then up, as they got lot of salt and got rusted from past adventures in uyuni salt flats and Peruvian coast.
20 dollars for fixing each part. A friend from Tena recommended this mechanic to us.
The parking area is quite big, even for big rigs, and you may be able to sleep here in case needed.
Definitely recommended

The place is called “Rual Auto Peças”. Still has everything for your VW kombi or fusca, very helpful guys and in comparison to other parts of south america very cheap.

No sign of activity on a Monday morning. Very difficult access from the highway. Would not recommend for big rigs. We did not stay and moved on to just north of Puyo where we stayed at Los Copales.

CAREFUL. Two white bulldogs potentially dangerous and unpredictable. Scary. Attacked our tire on arrival and ran at us on another occasion. Otherwise, good Overlander place. $10 per night with electric and excellent wifi. Also access to shower (cold!) in one of the cabins. Easy to catch bus across the road into Puyo. NO SIGNAGE at co-ordinates. Look for a wooden arch over the easy entrance on the left (coming from the north) and look for the flat gravel sandy-colored parking space. We stayed two nights. Some noise from highway but will not disturb your sleep.

We changed our trasero brakes at VW Kombi. Christian speaks great english, very helpful, organised. It took us 1 day. We paid por 2 rear breaks 2700 pesos. Thery were nice, even offered us to sleep in our car in their garrage and use their restrooms. They have a room for waiting with drinks, wifi...
