Description

We found this great place near Cañas to stay with everything we Overlanders need...very friendly Swiss owner (Speaks Spanish, English and German) wo helps in all situations...definetly a place to be and they also have rooms (incl breakfast) available and a good restaurant(if eat at restaurant no fee for camping, otherwise 10USD for a car and 2 people)...they also offer river rafting adventures and just 300m behind the restaurabt is a zoo (highly recommend!) (price 12USD pp) with Pumas, Jaguars and many others...

Latest Check-Ins

We had a stop for one night there. As an Overlander you will survive here definitely.
You get a place close to the street with water and electric, the night is quiet but the traffic starts early at 4 to 5 in the Morning.
The old owner is friendly and talks a lot about his life. The food and the service was ok, not more not less. For one night okay.

Report Check-In

Very noisy! You stay by busy hiway.
Shower is outside! Should wear swimming suit. Little bit disappointed by Swiss owner.
Slow WiFi.
Not the best place for the night for sure.

We spent three nights - electricity is weak as the breaker goes off if two rvs plugged in - food is overpriced and quality is very questionable - we had serious stomach problems after trying some fish dish- George is a great guy but the employees are shady - watch out how much they charge you and dont let the tap to roll - can be very pricy stay at the end with many unknown charges

stayed here 3 nights
because of our online job. Owner speaks a little english, everybody is so welcoming and social. We ate in there restaurant in exchange to stay. The food is good and reasonable. Cold shower outside in your bathing suit, some
place in the shade, too loud for me at night, right by the side of the highway, lots of truck all time. we got a nice wind here though!
We went at the refuge in the back, belongs to another person. 12$/pp, worth visiting and helping this place take care of those animals. You can pay by card both places !

George the owner is a great guy and really helpful. Everything here that overlanders need, he even had 2 proper stations built with power and water if needed. Georges main business is white water rafting and his family also started Las Pumas cat sanctuary which is a short walk up the road and worth a visit (1 of only 2 actually certified places in CR to really save animals rather than being a touristy zoo and breeding centre)... It's true that there's a bit of road noise but just man up :-)

Report Check-In

As described. Clean bathroom and outdoor cold shower. Only drawback is that it’s just by the highway and quite noisy. If you eat at restaurants then you don’t need to pay for camping.

Very Nice place and people. Very good food. Se overnight here with our motorhome.

We returned for another visit. The bathrooms were clean. The meals were pricey and the proprietor was happy for the business.
Note- this is NOT the animal rescue place (that is down the dirt road) but rather a restaurant and rafting company with two full-hook up RV spots.

Report Check-In

As described. Nice people. Very helpful. Eat or have a beer at restaurant for $10 per night. Water, electric hookups. Bathrooms not so great (dirty, no paper) and did not use shower. Short walk to cool little animal rescue place. Restaurant expensive but delicious. Pet friendly. Also can arrange river trips for good price.

Parking lot in front of a restaurant. Paid 8$. Electricity, water on site. Really noise at night because of the highway. We visited the little zoo and it was really nice, we saw a howler monkey and a toucan outside the cages!!! There is a restaurant with good food but a bit expansive.

Report Check-In

As previously described. Road noise is a factor, but 2 'RV' style parking spots with water and power are very nice for the money. Paid 5000 crc for my truck/trailer. Nice restaurant and some activities available on site.

Report Check-In

Friendly hosts. Offer a river rafting trip which we plan to do tomorrow morning.

Only downside-as mentioned right off highway, so noisy during day.

Report Check-In

Very friendly owner indeed but the price was a bit too high for us, especially as it's right next to a big street and the campground in their parking lot. Price: 10 USD pP but if you eat & drink at the restaurant it's 10 USD per car.

Report Check-In

Good place for one night. Owners are very friendly and the food in the restaurant was very good (try the cordon bleu). We could even try some christmas cookies (zimtsternen & chraebeli - typical swiss cookies). Clean toilets and an outdoor shower. Cons: sites (parking area of the restaurant) are directly at the main street so it is a bit noisy. We paid 10$ per car as we had dinner at the restaurant. If you do not drink or eat anything it is 10$ per person.
