Description

Closed Dec 1-April 31, according to sign posted on gate at entrance
BLM spot that allows dispersed camping, May-November*. A well graded gravel road takes you around the site; look for flat pullouts and you’re set! No services but 4 bars of AT&T LTE. Travelling east on the 160, look for mile 97 marker and turn right just a few feet after that. Light highway noise but it quieted down at nighttime. Closest BLM camping to Durango we could find.
Ok guys you definitely want to use this as your gate entrance 37.226597,-107.695009 . enter these coordinates into google maps or whatever map you use. Any other coordinates mentioned in this or other sites are for campsite locations within this BLM land area. For big rigs (my 5th wheel is 32') like long trailers or Mhomes there are 3 sites I see, one of which is really big enough for a few big rigs(3 or 4). But dont worry if you cant get one of those as there is a stretch along the western section (right turn)after the y in the road where I saw a couple trailers set up on the side and space for a few more. Lots of spots for small rigs or tents.

Coordinates mentioned by other users are correct and they’ll get you right to the entrance. Seems like there could be a decent amount of other spots further back but the “DANGER: GAS PIPELINE” signs weren’t really calling my name so I stayed at the closest one to the entrance. Be smart with ya fire people

As described I used coords 37.226597, -107.695009. Coming from east it is a difficult left turn because the road has lots of traffic. I recommend approaching from the west instead. I arrived on Friday and several spots were taken. Nice looking area. Decent Verizon cell. Road noise minimal

Report Check-In

Great spot away from road. Our spot was nice and level.

Report Check-In

Love this spot 10 minutes outside Durango. There aren’t many sites - maybe 10? - which is unfortunate. But there’s wild Turkey and deer and hares all over. Easy road in.

37.226597,-107.695009 these coordinates are for the main entrance. The turn in will sneak up on you, be prepared. Closest BLM East of Durango. Spent 1 night here. Got in late-ish around 8pm. Pulled off at the first stop (to the left) it wasn’t exactly level but we were able to make it work for the night. The site had a fire ring but we didn’t use it, it was pretty cold. The land is near some kind of gas pipe(s) buried in the ground, had signs of “DANGER: buried pipe, methane gas leak possible” . That was a bit unsettling but we figured it would be okay for one night. We saw 5 other campers. Get here early preferably before sundown, it was very difficult to navigate in the dark. Roads leading in were not too bad, saw a Honda CRV and a Prius make it in so I believe any vehicle could do it. Go slow on the rocky parts and you’ll be good! 8 out of 10 would visit again!!!!!!

Awesome location just East of Durango! Excellent place to stop for the night. Plenty of spots throughout the area. Only downside is the dust (if dry) or mud (if wet)!

Report Check-In

As described, dont follow blindly the coordinates. Its a little passed the mile marker 197. Or use the coordinates from the original post for the gate. Lots of spaces. Full cell signal. A few cows in the way.

Report Check-In

beautiful open land, many dirt roads with possibilities for camping of all varieties. sneaky little turn to get in though! almost missed it.

Report Check-In

Close to Durango. Slightly level. 5 mins on dirt off Highway 160. Coyotes sang all night.

Report Check-In

Great Verizon signal, I worked here for over a week. Easy drive in for any vehicle. Wild turkeys and deer.

Report Check-In

As described by others. Had a little trouble finding a level spot. Quiet. Got the last spot on a Tuesday afternoon. There are no fire rings.

closed for the season Dec 1-Apr 30. Thought I might get lucky but it's closed closed

Report Check-In

We were slipping and sliding in our 2WD van once we left the main road (it was raining and quite muddy) but found a little spot that was good enough for the night and didn't end up getting stuck. Didn't see any cows but there were some pies.

Report Check-In

Nice spots tucked away among the hills and and brush outside of Durango. Nice to walk around and explore, we would have stayed longer if it hadn’t stormed and gotten muddy. Great cell signal ATT and Verizon - I was able to do a two hour long Skype interview with no problems.

Report Check-In

Exactly as described. I have cows in the camp area 😁 awesome Verizon service

Report Check-In

I used the coordinates from wanderer and had no problem finding a spot. You can hear the oil pumps, and there are free range cattle around the area, but they haven’t bothered me yet. Overall a nice place to spend a few nights while still being close to Durango.

Good service on T-Mobile and AT&T

Report Check-In

Interesting boondocking 16 miles east of Durango. The spot on the app was taken but I found a much more level spot. It's worth sitting around a bit. More buried pipeline markers than I've ever seen and you can hear oil pumps. You can also smell oil. The spot I found is a little trashy and too big to clean up. 😟

Feels a bit sketchier than the places near Mancos.

Cell signal on both Verizon and ATT are good.

No problem finding going east on 160. First couple spots taken. Drove up road to a somewhat flat pull off. No problem for my 30ft class C.

Report Check-In

Entrance is on a hill top curve and easy to miss. It’s before the GPS says. Coming east, it’s an immediate right after mile marker 97.

Quiet, large sites, even roads, some trash. Great cell reception with Verizon

Report Check-In

Great area in BLM land, service road leads to many oil sites but they are gated individually. Probably 5-10 flat, useable spots in total, accessible with any rig - the road is well maintained for the benefit of resource extraction. Gate closed in Winter Only (Dec 1 - April 30).

Report Check-In

Look on Google Maps satellite view. Once you turn south off the highway the road will turn west then a few wiggles. You'll find a clear area on your right that has several flat sites. You can see this on Google. The road going into this area in nowhere near as good as the main road off the highway.

Report Check-In

The entrance is a couple hundred feet West of the Google map location. Briefly drove around and saw a few slanted spots, probably more.

Report Check-In

Good location just off the highway with great cell service and good roads. Roads lead to various oil wells. This site does not have much level parking.

Report Check-In

I wasn't able to find this place.
