we could park inside. they wanted our drivers license at the gate. a copy was fine to. the passenger had to get out and leave a driver license as well at the other gate. when you walk in the building its the first counter to your left wich has a blue sign with "atencion empredas oea".

they needed to see the car and took photo's. also needed a copy of our padron and all the other copy described in this post. they did not ask about the letter.

total time: 1 hour

We came here to extend our Tourist Vehicle Permit (TIP) by 3 months (originally we got 3 months at Hito Cajón but needed more because we were traveling home). The process took much longer than others reported (arrived at 10am left by 2pm).

Staff was courteous but it seems it is a very busy office and perhaps they are not very efficient. No costs, also there are signs saying bribes are not permitted.

They needed to inspect the vehicle to be sure the plate and VIN matched. Didn't look inside. At the main gate the guard told us that we would have to park outside and walk in, but after telling him we were worried about robos he let us in. Possibly telling them that the aduana will need to inspect the vehicle would give the same result. It seems like it is at his discretion, so don't be afraid to plead a little.

A quick and easy process. They wanted all the documents listed by YellowVanDays below, except the letter. We had one prepared ready but they didn't ask for it. Vehicles were not allowed into the compound and they didn't want to see the vehicle to extend the TIP. We had to park outside the compound on the main road and walk a few hundred metres to the office on the left-hand side. Total time was around 15 mins. You must have your visa extended by Migracion before coming here.

Where to go to get an extension on your vehicle permit. Bring your vehicle, ownership document, current vehicle permit and a statement explaining why you want more time (which you may or may not need). I was able to secure a 30 day extension. Hours are 8:40am - 4:30pm

This is where you go to get you vehicle import permit extended in La Paz. When you drive in, your passengers will have to step out the car and enter via a pedestrian entrance. Once inside, they can join you in the vehicle again! Then drive to the car park (second hgate on left) and park. Enter the building in front and go to the hatch just left of the door. They will deal with you there.

You will need:

1. Your passport with the visa extension (from Migraciones in La Paz).
2. Your vehicle registration documents.
3. Your temporary import permit.
4. A letter explaining why you want the extension.
5. Photocopies of all the above (there is a shop next to the car park that does photocopying).

You must have your vehicle with you as they will want to see it. They are quite efficient and it is free but they might be shut between 12pm and 2pm. We went in at 2.30...
