Report Check-In

Normal military checkpoint. No one really paying attention. Just drove through.

Report Check-In

Went through around 8am, there were 10+ guys in black shirts and khaki trousers. They had no ID, no marked cars anywhere - none of the usual stuff you see at real checkpoints other than the building itself.

They shouted at us to stop, we slowed down to eyeball them and decided we didn't like the look of it so kept driving. They didn't do anything, just hollered and swore as we left.

Report Check-In

We only had to slow down traveling northbound.

Report Check-In

We passed yesterday at 18:00 h direction south, the checkpoint arch is permanent and there were a couple of Guardia Nacional Agents but they weren't pulling over anyone.

Report Check-In

No one here. Lots of checkpoints on this hwy but we had no issues. No searches. Nice people

Wanted money! Had us pull over and asked us questions and for our paperwork. Searched only our backpacks which I watched them closely due to these reports. They flat out asked my husband for money, almost demanded it then asked if he had a credit card then they let us go. I want to note we’ve noticed several stops where there is a random white tent and orange cones and only people in tan khaki pants and washed out prints on black polos, this one had the same setup but first there were actual police. Very sketchy.

!!! WARNING !!!
We were the victim of an attempted theft from 2 police officers at this official checkpoint. It all starts with a classic paper control, then he asks us if we film and get out of the vehicle to search it. It is the first time in 5 months that we have searched our vehicle, so far we have just been asked to look inside. The 2 police officers find the place where we hide our cash, and there they ask how much we have and they want to recount. It's starting to smell bad, they say they check if we have more than $ 10,000 and if we have counterfeit tickets. The verification is very rough, when they say they have finished I ask my partner to recount because I have doubts and there they insist that we leave. We take the time to recount and there I see the policeman slipping something under my seat, and strangely it is US $ 500, I start to raise the tone of the voice and ask to see the manager and there he adjusts money under my seat, US $ 120. I go crazy, he tells me to leave, I do just the opposite. The 2 managers arrive, I explain the problem, they ask me to check if I have all my money. Finally they gave us everything, but I ask to file a complaint. The managers tell me that they will have a sanction but that they cannot give me an official document but that I can trust them ... in short it is well finished but a very bad image of Mexico before joining Guatemala! It was the first time we had a problem with the police.

Report Check-In

Heading south towards Guatemala. Official checkpoint with uniformed men, got stopped, asked a few questions (where we going/coming from, etc.) and got pulled aside for a vehicle inspection. Somewhat through inspection though not every compartment was checked, just politely/honestly answered their questions and received politeness in return. Got asked to show our Temporary Vehicle Import Permit (TVIP/TIP) which we’ve had since Baja so all good there.
The worst part was the 20 minute delay but no biggie.

Report Check-In

August 2019 extorted at this checkpoint while headed south. Brown uniformed road block men. 8 or so walked off for maybe a break. 2 remaining waved me off to checkout lane. Asked for 2 dollars american. I refused. They spied a fifth of tequila in my back seat. Asked for that. I said no. Made me get out and frisk. Asked again for tequila. Gave it to them. They shook my hand (with fist bump too) and I was on my way. Bandidos.
