Closed today because of snow. You can come until here from Fiambala. Even it is many km, it is a really beautiful road!!

Very easy crossing from Chile to Argentina. Did not want to look in our camper and gave us a TIP for eight months when we asked for it.

We came until the border to cross and see the Laguna Verde in the Chilean part but we found out that you can only cross if you’re going until the first village in Chile that is like about 120km away from this point.

San Francisco Paso customs. There are 120 km to reach the customs of Chile, so the timetables are as follows: no later than 4 p.m. to pass the customs of Argentina towards Chile because the Pasos close at 5:30 p.m. So coming from Chile it's the same 4 p.m. customs in Chile to leave at Argentina customs no later than 5:30 p.m. At Argentina customs there is a free hospital and shelters. Here even in summer the temperature can drop below zero at night. For people who arrive too late and are not equipped to sleep, customs ask them to go back down to Fiambala or as close as possible to the hotel 90 km away. Between the two borders there is the Laguna Verde to see 40 km from the customs of Argentina. And there are also hot water thermals.

douane du Paso de San Francisco. il y a 120 km pour rejoindre la douane du Chili, donc les horaires sont les suivants : au plus tard 16h pour passer la douane d’argentine direction le Chili car les pasos ferment à 17h30. donc en venant du Chili c’est pareil 16 h douane du Chili pour sortir à la douane d’argentine au plus tard à 17h30. à la douane d’argentine il y a un hôpital et des refuges gratuits. ici même en été la température peut descendre en dessous de zéro la nuit. pour les personnes qui arrivent trop tard et ne sont pas équipées pour dormir, la douane leur demande de redescendre à Fiambala ou au plus près à l’hôtel à 90 km de là. entre le deux frontière il y a la Laguna verde à voir à 40 km de la douane d’argentine. et il y a aussi des thermes d’eau chaude.

Border open as normal now. Easy and straightforward to exit before 4pm. Very windy!

The border is open but only Wednesday.
Existing was pretty straightforward, they didn’t check anything, just asking about food.

The border is closed. We could not even walk to the thermals. The immigration is closed (nobody there). Only the "gendarmeria" is there and they only let you pass if you have a written document you need to get at Fiambalá (the document needed when you want to climb the volcanoes). Otherwise, no chance. We had to turn around and return. The road from Fiambalá to this location is simply awesome! A lot of wildlife and the road is very good.

Wow. Border is still closed due to COVID -.- Only open to semi trucks and other professionals. If you want to hike the San Francisco mountain, they let you pass to the mountain, if you have a permit. Permits for all high mountains in this area are mandatory now, you will get them at the police in fiambala.

Attention! they close the boarder now because of Corona. i guess we were the last one they let pass!!!!

super friendly boarder. they didnt checked our car. everything went fast. they have an emergency fuel station where you can pay also with dollars.

Leaving Chile to Argentina. At 11:00, they closed the border due to lack of power. No info, no manual proceeding. Around 30 peoples waiting since hours. Right now official info, they open maybe at 17:00.

Chile to Argentina: You need the the stamped persons TIP (Tarjeta Unica Migratoria) from the chilean boarder for entering in Argentina.

Very quick and easy border. But be carefull with the altitude (max 4700m), and it is 1h later in Argentina side.

Very beautiful pass, especially the border zone and the Argentinian side. No fuel in between Copiapo and Fiambala, except for the “emergency fuel” at the border as stated below. Beware: also no shops or restaurants all along this trajectory until Cortaderas in Argentina (expensive hotel/restaurant). A lot of refugios especially in Argentina, no hotels/hospedajes.
Come prepared in terms of fuel and water/food.

Easy Argentina border crossing.

We bought petrol/nafta here. It's 52 AR$ per litre here at the time and ~42 AR$ normally, so about 20-25% more by the aduana.

Leaving Argentina you need to fill a form for each person. This is needed for argentine and chilean immigration.
According to the argentine immigration officiers you can leave Argentina at this border point until 5pm. Entering Argentina coming from Chile into Argentina is possible until 7pm.
