There are signs at this picnic area and the others listed in this app that clearly state camping is prohibited.
Report Check-InAs others described. Lots of traffic noise but we slept ok. One train and it wasn’t loud.
Report Check-InThe train is close, so it’s loud but it doesn’t blare its horn way out here. There is a dirt path that runs for miles along the fence. Flat and cleared. Good for walking and jogging and biking. Some people stopped for picnics during the day.
Report Check-InSigns posted read “Prohibited: Camping on Public Property, State Law” but I’m sure that applies to tent camping. Sleeping in a vehicle at a picnic area is allowed state-wide, up to 24 hours.
Report Check-InWe planned to stay here for a night in our small Promaster but changed our minds after seeing a few cases of unopened water and powerade hinting that, maybe, they were left for weary travelers and this might be a rest spot for those crossing into the US. We did see border police stationed a quarter mile down the road. We left, not out of fear, but we thought the patrol might knock in the night and ask us to leave.
Report Check-InGreat place to overnight when tired. As others have said it is fairly busy for a west texas highway off of i-10. Traffic largely diminished after 10pm. Several trains through the night, no horn blowing thankfully. Not my best night sleep but will add that i felt very safe here. Ultimately thats the most important part of roadside sleep.
Report Check-InNot much road or train noise. Lovely place in the desert with covered picnic tables.
Report Check-InAs described. Good overnight stop. Some road noise as expected. 1 train at around 10pm. Otherwise fine.
Report Check-InWhen I went to sleep I was the only one there. One other car parked sometime during the night. Border patrol passed by but didn’t bother me. Train passed by too and that made my trailer vibrate. Beautiful sunrise and sunset.
Report Check-InBBQ grills and a couple trash cans. Seemed fine to pull off for the night. Near the road and a train though.
Report Check-Inis what is described. basic free picnic/highway camping in Texas. had no issues. can fit trailers/larger vehicles behind the covered areas.
Report Check-InA good spot for an easy overnight. When we pulled in Border Patrol was camped out but they didn’t bother us at all. Beautiful views in the morning.
Report Check-InTwo covered picnic areas with tables and trash cans, could stop here for the night. Right along the road.
