Description

This place offers rooms and meals .... and they let us camp in their yard for free. From here a wonderful and well-graded dirt track leads 18km towards the UNESCO heritage-listed Cueva de las Manos. From there you follow a steep hiking track down into the spectacular gorge and up the other side (30-45 min. In total) to the entrance of the Cuevas (fee ARP 400 p.p.). A 4WD car is not required unless it's wet. The meal at the hostería was excellent and the service exceptional. Just be aware that they run a noisy generator until about midnight, though you can't hear this at the front of the building.

Very nice hotel that probably has lovely rooms. We camped in a separate area that has sinks for washing up/bathrooms/showers. Camping was 3,000 for a whole mini shelter thing but they are quite big, so we had 3 people and 2 tents. I think for one person it would also be 3,000? We also had dinner which was very nice and included alcohol. We had a very good time, everyone was very very nice but it is all expensive. There is currently no option for free/cheap camping this side of the caves. They are planning on building some!

We stayed in La Posta de Los Toldos for three nights! The hut offers shared bedrooms, a wood-burning stove, and bonfires, creating a great place to rest between the adventures of Pinturas Canyon Portal, of free acces. One of the trails gives acces to Cueva de las Manos Provincial Park and the hut is run by Rewilding Argentina Foundation, an organization trying to help recover the health of the ecosystem through an intensive wildlife restoration project. The hut is located only 4 kms away from Ruta Nac 40 and 54 km away from Perito Moreno! The staff is really nice and showed great enthusiasm to help us! There is a free parking lot for campervans and an observatory, built by ancient techniques that offers a warm bench to sit and admire the stars! The place is really clean and quiet! I would definetely recomend you to stay here!

The camping area for motorhomes is a open, very windy, parking lot (you are not allowed to park near the trees for some wind protection). Toilets are ok (no showers) and it is expected to have dinner and/or breakfast at the hotel. Further south (for example in the canyon, if you have a 4wd) are much nicer camping options.

A wonderful place!! We stayed here one night in our camper for free. The people here are so amazing! We had a great dinner and joined them for a bonfire. The place is an eco lodge built in 11/2019 focusing on preserving wildlife. The WiFi worked great, very nice bathrooms and great company with the people working and staying there. We can’t say how much we loved this place

A great place to spend the night. Tent camping isn't allowed but vans can park up in the front for free. The entrance has a large lounge with excellent Wi-Fi, cold beer, and a restaurant if you need it; toilets are available too, no showers though. Dorm beds are available if you don't have a van. The road to here is about 4kms, pretty good ripio, then another 18 or so on the Cuevas. Definitely recommend this place for a night!

It’s now called La Posta. It’s absolutely beautiful. It’s 4km on a very bumpy gravel road but our 2WD motor home did it without problems. The lodge allows motor homes to camp overnight. We had a spot in front of the lodge away from the generator so it was fine. We had a nice dinner & wine there and were invited to watch a documentary on Conservation Patagonia which was very interesting. Their hospitality and generosity was outstanding. We could use their bathrooms and the living area. Everybody was super friendly and helpful. I’m very happy that we went there. On the way back we went for a short 1 hour walk (Tierra de colored) to see the amazingly colored hills, also very beautiful

WOW!!! I guess they did a huuuge Renovation cause since 10 days (Nov 2019) they reopened and its modern, very clean and well designed. It’s 10$ pP and you have a bed in a 4-bed-dorm. They have a chef that cooks breakfast and dinner (don’t know how much). They say they have a „kitchen“ but it’s just a small house with a table and a wood oven - so you need to bring your stuff. Wifi is okay. You sleep in the beds with your sleeping bags cause they don’t have sheets. Own bathroom every dorm. Everybody is always super friendly and willing to help. No free parking and sleeping in the car possible atm, but they told us that the hosteria will be closed next season cause they buy more land to make it available for camping, motorhomes etc.
We needed to stop by here cause it was crazy storm outside. They also have a Beamer where you can watch Netflix, books, information etc.
Never invested 10$ better than in this hostel!

Just a quick note: we thought we could take this shorter road to the cueca da las manos to save time and fuel but the lady at the reception explained that it takes more time if you go this way because you have to leave the car and hike to the entrance which takes as mentioned 45 minutes and take the same way back. If you have time do it but if not consider going around (if you are coming from the north).

Dinner now 450 AR$. Parking not longer for free with dining. Over night parking in Motorhome now 200 AR$. Our friends booked a hotelroom 1550 AR$.They tried to charge him additionally to the hotel room 200AR$ just for parking his minivan.

We visited the Cueva de Las manos from here. Beware, you first need to drive 18.5km on a dirt road to the start of the hike. It took us about 40 minutes each way. It was possible but at a limit with 2wd van while it was dry. There are a couple of steep inclines which might prove difficult when it's raining. The hike is around 30-40min. There is one river to cross and the bridge was in the process of being repaired while we were there (19 Jan). The guided tour of the Cueva takes around one hour.

Nice ranch at end of 5km track off Ruta 40. We had a matrimonial without desayuno for 1300pesos. Place is heated by open fires and little gas heaters in rooms as they only have electricity between 8pm and midnight. Very cosy and very welcoming/friendly staff.

Report Check-In

We asked to camp there. They said it is 100 arg per person and you can use the bathroom and showers from the albergue. We camped behind the main house to protect from the wind but it was very trashy. Very cold: 4°C at 5 in the morning.

Confirming all of the above, and a little update on the space available:
- parking in back yard: free
- 4 bed dorm without kitchen, including breakfast: 380 pesos pp
- habitation, including breakfast: 1250 pesos per couple

Meal formula a bit adapted: 250 pesos for soup + main. Tasteful after the hike earlier, but rather basic. I think 'honest' would be the apppropriate word :)

Since we had to eat our fresh food reserves before crossing the Chilean border, we simply asked whether we could park near the estancia. They were extremly friendly and let us park for free. The restaurant looked nice and a three course dinner would have cost 350 ARS pp.
