Boondocking site with stunning views over the saddle mountain wilderness. Plenty of nearby hiking.
Take the Grand Canyon Highway south from Jacob Lake. About 26 miles onwards (5 miles from the Grand Canyon entrance station) take the 611 east going east, opposite the entrance for the better signed 22. At the first signed junction, take the right fork onto the 610 headed towards the Marble View Point. Carry on this road for about 14 miles, until you reach the saddle mountain trail head.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Fairly remote campsites bordering the grand canyon. Took a while to get in here on Forest Road 610 but seems like it will be worth the view. 1-2 bars verizon, 4 campsites along the edge but more closer to the trailhead. Excited to see the views tomorrow morning!
Report Check-InExactly as described. We arrived at 5:00 and no one was there so we had our pick of spots. 2 bars on Verizon. There’s a quick hike from there to a better view point but we didn’t have time. Amazing views, no bugs, and our spot was pretty level. It took a bit to get to in our Tacoma and in a lower clearance vehicle it would take even longer. Worth the drive.
Report Check-InThe gravel road isn’t the funniest thing. It will take you a while to arrive here. If you are lucky and catch a spot directly at the rim it is definitely worth it, but note, that there are only 3-4 spots with a view. We came here on a Thursday by noon and in the early afternoon all good sides were taken.
Report Check-InBeautiful spot! The road in is not bad but long enough on a gravel road to warrant staying out here a few days. Nice hiking around to fill your time. Nice also to grab a chair and enjoy the views.
Report Check-InUnmatched views of the north rim.
Gravel road is best suited for high clearance and 4x4 vehicles.
Amazing views of Grand Canyon, got there just before sunset and still one camping spot.
Report Check-InAmazing! There's just 3 or 4 spots, all with better viewers than you will see anywhere else. it's a long gravel road, but I'm good weather, it's a breeze. The trail that starts here is steep, and i was told that after the first couple of miles, there's a bit of bushwaking needed.
Report Check-InGreat place, only a couple others out here on a Wednesday night during peak season.
Report Check-InAbsolutely beautiful. Don’t miss the sunrise over the canyon! Like everyone else said, the gravel road is totally fine. Cold at night but warm in the day when the sun comes out.
Report Check-InMagnificent views of the canyon. Gravel road with some washboards but no problem with 4wd 170 ext Sprinter van. We stayed 2 nights with amazing full moons both nights.
Report Check-InA half dozen campsites at the end of a long dirt road drive. No clearance problems. No washboard, but typical forest road rough. Incredible views.
Report Check-InAbsolutely stunning. Our first time to see the Grand Canyon could not have asked for better. Just a few spots up here but we’re the only ones here tonight.
Report Check-InFabulous free camping on the edge of the Grand Canyon. Decent Verizon and ATT service. Views! We camped here 3 nights.
Report Check-InOMG Absolutely the most incredible spot. The drive was bumpy on long gravel road with two dogs in van but well worth it. Photos from van window. Highly suggest taking a screen shot of directions as google maps service was spotty at best. Doesn’t get better than this.
Report Check-InWow. I’m sure the views are good inside the currently closed NP, but wow. The place is empty and I have the spot 10 feet from the edge.
Report Check-InGreat spot with 3-4 sites at this gps location. LTE service is good, but completely drops for minutes to hours periodically. Awesome sunrise views. Easily accessible for any vehicle, even big rigs.
Report Check-InThis place was awesome, long dirt road drive, but worth it. Views are amazing and it is quiet. Only a few cars came by. Many spots to choose from.
Report Check-InAbout 12 miles of dusty gravel road to get here. The road is pretty well graded and 2WD vehicles can make it without a problem if it’s dry. Parts of the road will be a muddy mess if it rains. The last 5 miles is a narrow single-lane road. 4-5 campsites here, some with rock fire rings, and are relatively level. Smaller RVs and travel trailers, as well as tents, should be able to get here. The views of the painted desert and the east end of the Grand Canyon are pretty impressive. There is no cell service for much of the Forest Road drive. However, I have 1-2 bars of Verizon LTE at the campsite (guessing the tower is on the other side of the canyon).
Report Check-InAmazing views. Well worth the detour to stay here. Great little hike to Saddle Mountain to get to even greater views of the canyon. Easy for 2wd.
Report Check-Invery nice place in the wood, on the edge of the Grand Canyon!
very quiet, dirt road is ok, with 2wheel drive.
great hike and canyon view

The final stretch of this road is temporarily closed due to a fire so there is no access to the rim.
Great off grid camping spot with awesome views of the canyon. Will definitely be adding this to the list of places we would like to visit again. Surprisingly has good cell service after having zero service since leaving the Jacob Lake gas station.
Report Check-InWe though we had stayed at some some pretty cool campsites before, but this was just incredible. Stunning view, very quiet, space for about 3 or four vehicles.
Report Check-Inwonderfull view very quiet place the road to go is really ok with our rv
