Something not right?

Description

We needed a mechanic to take off and repair our fuel tank. By chance we also did a whole check up after the Carretera Austral and they found shock absorbers and rubbers to be replaced. The whole team is super helpful and professional, one of the boss men was explaining us several times what urgently needs to be fixed and they really made a good consultation for people like us who don't understand a lot about cars. He was also concerned about our time schedule, always told us how long something would take and why (getting spare parts in the local market etc). We finally did not need to take off the fuel tank and All the other work (which was quite a lot though) was done in 1 1/2 days

Latest Check-Ins

It is no longer a Bosch Service place and nobody speaks english here anymore, I didn't take note of the name. They seemed like they are genuinely good mechanics but the communication was bad so that it was a bad experience overall.

We agreed that they will do a proper inspection for 40.000 clp and tell us what exactly is wrong, then give a quote to fix it. We explained that we had already been to two mechanics in Ushuaia who told us what they think is wrong and were advised to come to Punta Arenas to repair it because the parts are not available there.

Instead they didn't call us and did a temporary repair as in their opinion it would be morally and ethnically wrong to let us drive away with the car in the state it was in and the parts are also unavailable here, which is an honorable intention but not what we agreed. They did not call and give the option of temporary repair or ordering the parts from Santiago and waiting for them to arrive to do the permanent repair.

After a mostly professional negotiation (with translator) they still didn't admit they were wrong but we paid only for the material (60.000 clp) that was used. There was no way I was going to pay full price (166.000 clp) for work carried out without consultation.

It is a shame because I know they were trying to do us a favour so we can leave quickly but failed to consider that fixing the problem properly (regardless of waiting for parts) is what we were trying to achieve.

We had a couple broken leaf springs and went here to get it fixed. We have had to have the same thing fixed in Santiago so we know how much it costs and they charged us nearly 3x more at this place. Labor is expensive and we believe overstated. We also waited 3 days to get our car back. Not too happy.

We were there because we had trouble with our sprinter. The mechanics seemed competent and it sounded correct what they diagnosed. The Manager Speaks very good english. They tried to get another belt for the engine since our First one (replaced in calafate) seemed to be too Long and that caused the odd noise. We were hopeful but the engine only sounded only a little better. When we said that it still sounds different he said he doesnt have a good Sound Memory. Well, we were disappointed because "better" is not what we pay for. We wanted the Problem to be solved and the noise to be gone but they just said that's all they can do. We had to Pay 75,000 but they only charged half the labor. I think they are competent; but i guess we just weren't so lucky.

Very much recommended place.
