Roadside camping in Big Bend NP. You have to get a permit at any visitor center of the park, or now some sites can be reserved online. It is 10$/night. You can't book more than 24h in advance.
It is remote wilderness. No sounds, perfectly dark for stargazing. There is a food locker, but no other amenties. Pack in pack out. Easily doable with 2wd.

Sweet remote campsite in big bend back country.
Need permit which you can get right on rec.gov and/or visitor center. We have a sprinter with an enduro on the back (on a hitch carrier) and we did bottom out and get stuck on the way up here. Luckily some very nice people helped us out.. but just a warning if you have anything on a hitch it might be a little rough in a few spots.
Nice spot for $10!! Big bend is amazing
I stayed a bit up the road at Pine Canyon #2. There road seems to get rougher the further in you go. There is a somewhat large hill to climb after site 1, with big washed out ruts that make it a little challenging for a heavy, slow vehicle like my skoolie.
Total silence and solitude out here though. Each spot seems spaced pretty far apart. Only saw one other car the entire time I was here. Stars are incredible.
