Description

[December 2022 : windows are broken, glass moved under banks, ladder to loft missing, wooden stove gone as well as chimney so hole in the roof...]

This place is the only road site stop between Porvenir and Parque Pinguino Rey. It is a good place to spend the night with some views and amazing sunset, plenty of guanacos. About 15 trees offer shade and little protection from the wind. Suitable for cars and eventually tents if not too much wind. Unfortunately a lot of toilet paper and rubbish around.

The new shelter / refugio is available at this site but in poor condition due to vandalism.

because the roadworks now the places is between the new road and the other road and a lot of work is happing during the day. the place was also full of glass and trash

Report Check-In

Good for campervan for one night. Pit toilet accessible in steel shelter.

Report Check-In

The same as the last comments, vandalism destroyed it. We had lunch inside it, it helped with the wind, but to pass the night I think it’s hard.

Report Check-In

Really sad to see such beautiful shelters destroyed. I wouldn’t spend the night here -only in an emergency but I’d rather push to the next intersection and sleep warm and without wind at the other two shelters. This was really sad to see!

We only stopped to take a closer look

Report Check-In

Recommended only as emengency shelter. A little bit less destroyed than Shelter 1 - No door, broken window. One edge of the rooms used as toilet (disgusting!). someone built a latter out of tires to reach the sleeping are.
we just ate here

Report Check-In

Los únicos árboles del camino. Sucio y con algunos cristales rotos, pero soportable. La cabaña algo destrozada, pero si vas con tu motorhome no importa.

Report Check-In

We don't stay here. Unfortunately, the hut was pretty much destroyed, the windows are broken, doors etc. Still usable as an emergency shelter.

Report Check-In

big pass on this place
smells of poopoo all over
broken glass ain't cool

Report Check-In

Most rubbish has been cleaned, broken glass shoved under the seating banks. Still same status, most windows broken, ladder to sleeping loft missing, as well as all doors. Might work for a lone cyclist as wind shelter in the corner where the wood burner used to be.

Report Check-In

We stopped by, all the windows are broken, there's glass and garbage everywhere... It's so sad to see this comfy place destroyed :(
It could still be useful if there's a big storm and you need a roof, but a lot of cleaning to do...

Report Check-In

Saved me from a really rough windy night. No way my tent was going to hold. The place is full of dead horse flies and some dust. A fire place is missing and would be a great addition.
All in all, pretty good

perfect place to sleep and/or eat. you have the only trees in the island here haha
Refugio is really nice, no inside fireplace there

Report Check-In

I had lunch here. A good stop. It was of the same modern design as Refugio1 of yesterday, and of Refugio3 tonight. This also had many horseflies. I killed as many as I could and then swept the place with its small broom before leaving. Apart from stagnant pools, I saw no good-water here or anywhere on today’s ride. Ask drivers or at the few haciendas.

Recycle bins outside were overflowing. City of Porvenir was not doing its job.

Report Check-In

Really really nice place to enjoy the best sunset ever. Refugio is in a really good shape. The toilet was also okay.

Report Check-In

Best place one the way from Porvenir to the penguins- nice new regugio, with a bed and fire place (no wood in the hut). A lot of place for cars next to the high trees. Foxes and guanacos living hear, on the way we saw dolphins.

Report Check-In

Now a brand new shelter / refugio is build near these trees. Wood stove, pit toilet and a place for sleeping in top of the shelter are available. As cyclists we didn't stay overnight but we did just cookies, hided from the strong winds.

Report Check-In

we put the tent next to the biggest tree . Wind protection not so good, but ok.

Report Check-In

TOTALLY GROSS! Broken glass, trash, used toilet paper, the concrete building is one giant toilet inside AND OUT! Nowind protection for a tent under the trees. The trees are nice and if you have a VEHICLE and don't have to get out of it, it would be okay. But being on bicycles, this is one we definitely passed on. Disgusting!.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Trees give some protection from the wind, but if the wind goes strong it does not help much. Ok site for one night.

Report Check-In

Confirm, nice place, sunset great.........................

Report Check-In

Lots of broken glass (come on people). We've been lucky with not-so-heavy winds this week but we still needed the trees for a little protection bc we have a rooftop tent. Ok place to stop.

Report Check-In

the only road site stop between Porvenir and Parque Pinguino Rey. we stayed here overnight.

A grove of trees give some protection from the wind. Next to road. Looks like a picnic or informal camp side on public ground.

This place is a good place to spend the night with some views and amazing sunset, plenty of guanacos and pretty good wind shelter from a concrete structure. About 15 trees offer shade and little protection from the wind. Suitable for cars and tents. Unfortunately a lot of toilet paper and rubbish around -- please use a shovel to bury your body waste!
