Description

A water management district free developed campsite. There is a tent only area and an RV area. RV area is good size with privacy between most sites. Ground is more dirt then grass. Fire ring and table at each site. Pit toilets and non potable water. Common areas with covered tables and grills. Not our favorite WMD site, but ok. Walking trails are mostly dirt roads, also for hikes and horses. AT&T works fine. Reservation required: https://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/recreation/serenova-tract. Free of charge.

Nice campsite at unbeatable free price. Could hear sandhill cranes and wander around to different small ponds. Only weird thing was at 9:45pm when we were in bed watching TV got a knock on the van door. It was ranger wanting to verify our registration. Said he had no record of our vehicle being authorized to stay. I showed him the registration email which confirmed it was legit and he apologized. But it was pretty unnerving at first not knowing who was at the door. If I’d been alone it would have been quite scary. So do make sure you have a proper reservation for the actual nights you stay as they carefully check and work late!

I thought this place was a pretty good spot for primitive camping. After you book a reservation online, you will receive an email with the gate code. Make note of the colour of the lock for your gate code. I didn't, and it was raining, and there were a few curse words, but it worked out. The sites are a good size with a bit of privacy, a picnic table, and a fire ring. I didn't use the facilities, but everything that everyone else said is still true. Good AT&T service. I'd stay here again.
Remember to take your trash with you when you leave.

if youre bigger than a ram van dont come here without a back up plan. i arrived with a permit and had nowhere at all to park. people with tiny campers hogging big spots etc. rules or common sense wouldnt go amiss here.

Visit watermatters.org to make a free reservation and get a gate code.
About a dozen sites for vans or RVs and a few more hike-in tent camping.
Within a quarter mile of the highway and there is some road noise, but nothing that disturbed me. The lots are fairly large, level, and decently private. I could see other campers through a screen of trees, but if the site had been full there would have been a camper approximately 50 yards away. There's also a free day use access to the hiking/equestrian trails. Vault toilet, non-potable water, no electric, and very strong AT&T signal.

Everything said is still true. We got here in the evening and no one was here. It is a large campsite with many large spots. Fair bit of road noise, but very good t-mobile service.

Free camping for primitive camping/ equestrian camping there is a lot of parking spaces with a bunch of picnic tables and fire pits at each one. It was quite and super beautiful spot, we stayed here one night but you can stay up to 7 nights in a row, getting a permit online prior to your stay is mandatory for getting the gate code to enter. We loved this spot and would definitely come back

The campsite is almost adjacent to the SunCoast trail, so I came in using pedal power. There is some road noise, but you quickly learn to tune it out. There was a tent only area, but I completely missed it and set up in an RV site. Lucky for me there were more sites than RV campers, so it didn't become an issue. The RV sites seemed to be of adequate size, but I came on a bicycle, so what do I know? The sites were a mix of grass and dirt, and the road was sandy, but drivable. My site had the obligatory fire ring & table. No potable water, no showers, and the vault restroom was a toxic biohazard, with refuse piled up inside. Sadly, the porto-potty was not much better. But there is a shopping center a few hundred yards across the street, and plain bottled water is about 50 to 75 cents a gallon at the adjacent Publix. This is a free site, and probably gets little attention, so people need to bring their trash out with them when they leave. There were some nice dirt trails, and I did some biking on ones designated for mixed use, but fat tires would have worked better than touring tires. I would recommend this campsite, but suggest that if you don't have a full RV, to bring bottled water and a cassette toilet along. Beware that this is a SWFWMD site but reservations are still required, even if it is free. Enjoy.

Great free camp spot, must get free permit online. Has a Porto and non potable water, but is close enough you could walk to a Publix if needed, as such it has some road noise, but is a beautiful setting and good cell signal, would definitely come back.

Great free camp spot. We went to the website listed and reserved a spot for the same day. Bathroom currently closed due to Covid-19, but outhouse available.
