Official backcountry campground of the park at the bottom of the canyon. You have to walk to there, obviously. The hike is around 12 km with ~1500m of elevation (going down!).
Sites are usually full, and you have to get a permit at the backcountry office. We were there in February and were able to get 2 nights without being on the waiting list.
There is a lodge next to it that offers pricy snacks and drinks ($1 refills on fountain drinks with ice!) and basic stuff if you really need it!
There is a power outlet in the bathroom to charge your phone, but no phone reception.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
According to the ranger, usually by spring, you'll have to lineup at the backcountry office starting at 3am to try and get a next day permit (if you haven't reserved well in advance). Typically takes 2 to 4 days before you get one.
