Latest Check-Ins

gate is open at the moment but this pin should not be considered a camping area. this is just a pull out off of the side of the road that's not even close to level.

Report Check-In

There was a gate before I could even get here that was closed and I am unsure when it’ll open again. It’ll be worth checking with a visitor center or something to see if it’s open prior to coming up. I assume there is still road as you keep going up the mountain and the forest service won’t open it until it’s all melted.

Road is fine to driving up if you want to do the drive to check yourself.

gate was closed right before this spot. don't waste your time driving all the way up. lots of wash board in the road

Report Check-In

Tried to make it. There’s 12 miles of unpaved, well groomed road. The last 1 mile was compacted snow, passable for some but we decided to turn around and not risk getting stuck on the hill. I’ve attached pictures. It’s a stunning drive, I have a 25 ft class C and it took every inch to get it turned around. Should be clear soon. Likely a good spot, secluded and a slow climb up to a high elevation with great views. @explore_RLT

This is closed in December including the road. Rangers close the trail gate at 9pm every day.

Report Check-In

Great pull offs to camp passed the Anamas overlook. Bathrooms at the overlook just down the trail. Be aware that you’re on 7 miles of gravel road to get here. Not crazy steep road, nicely graded. A little bumpy. Wouldn’t suggest a larger rig attempt it. Hard to turn around. But our Ford Transit did just fine.

Camping allowed after you pass Animas Overlook. This spot is large, room for a big rig or several small vehicles.

Report Check-In

This appears to just be a tiny pullout, and you cannot legally camp here. Go slightly up the road to where legal camping begins.

Report Check-In

This spot was taken as well as a few others along the road. Finally drove up far enough to find one! Our particular spot was up a washed out trail up a little hill. Not a great view of the mountains but the stars were fantastic! Main road up has a lot of wash boarding going on and gets a little rockier the higher you go. We aired down for comfort but not needed. The flies were pretty annoying at our spot but tolerable.

Report Check-In

Dispersed camping only once you get past the Animas overlook. Keep driving and there are several pull offs along the road. We found one with amazing views and a short trail. Also, there was no litter and no poop here.. 2wd sprinter made it up. Please, remember to bring a trowel to dig a cat hole 6in deep for human poop. Or pack it out.
