Description

A most scenic hike along three miradores from where there are magnificent vistas over Rio Mayer, Lago Ciervo, Lago Cisnes and three lagoons. It's about 45 mins to the first mirador, then another 45 to the next, and another 35 to the last. Totally 7 km and 600m up (approximately). The trail starts just South of the swing bridge by the gravel parking. Don't leave Villa O'Higgings without doing this hike which really makes you appreciate the beauty of the area.

Pretty hike on a generally well marked trail. Great views of course. We went all the way to the river and the trail was quite brushy by that point. When it says it ends at the river, it really does! You come out of the shrubs right to the water! There's nowhere to sit or anything so we headed back up the hill.

Having spent the 2 previous days bush bashing in thick forest up the glacier mosco valley this was a wonderful contrast! Stunning country and wide open views over Villa, the lakes and mountains. Definitely worth going to the 2nd mirador and probably the 3rd (slightly scrappier track). I hadn't realised until later that there is a refugio at the end on a river between 2 lakes which would be a gloriously remote spot to stay/chill out (refugio Largo ciervo) if you took a tent! Lots of frogs and some tadpoles en route!

Very nice hike, great view points on the valley, the mountains and glaciers. It's not a steep path to miradors like often. It's more like an easy "up and down" trail that will lead you to 3 miradors and continue further to the next valley. You can refill your water on the way at several streams. No private sign and the fence was open.

Report Check-In

The fence is open and there is a new sign saying 14 km and 6 hours return, but that is past the 3rd mirador, all the way to Río Negro. Plenty of shade until the 1st mirador. Water at 3.5, 4 and 4.5 km, marked as bridges in OsmAnd (other streams were dry when we were here). Watch your step, frogs like sitting in the middle of the trail at times.

No forbidden sign just a fence that's easy to climb. The original path is blocked by trees and a landslide. The path around that was so flooded after a few days of rain that we couldn't get further.

No forbidden signs on April. Hiking is easy, nice views in the mirador. Free, we enjoyed it. Parking just outside the gate.

Very nice hike, we were a little bit tired so we just did the first mirador (a local recommend this) Don’t pay attetion to the forbidden sign.

Very beautiful and simple hike. Completed this with my small family and did not have a big issue completing this carrying a toddler most of the way.
Would say approx 25 mins each leg with a bit extra time to stop.
Lovely cafe at the end destination.

One of our fav hikes of the Carretera Austral, not too steep and pretty forests led to dramatic views

We only walked to the second mirador and then turned around. We are average hikers and these were our stats (from the start, cumulated):
Mirador 1, Glaciares Mosco y Huemul: 40min, 2,5km, 250m up
Mirador 2, Laguna El Loco: 1:09h, 4,27km, 344m up
Beauty: 2,5/5 ; Difficulty: easy-moderate
We hiked in good conditions with sunny weather and hardly any wind. Some parts looked like they can be quite muddy if there is rain or if there has been any rainfall recently.

The tourist info office, carabineros and hostel staff said that the hiking trail is free and to dismiss the sign.

Report Check-In

There is a sign saying it is forbidden to enter, asking to call a number. The guy at the other end of the line explained it is required to register, and pay 2800 pesos per person. We did not do this, thanked him for the information and left without doing the hike.
