Description

Check road conditions and weather with park ranger first! Look for star icon in iOverlander.
The ripio road was not too bad but even so it took almost an hour from the municipal campground to the pinguineria. We drive slowly! It is worth the drive. Free, just sign in at the end of the road. No ranger on duty today.

Large magellanic penguinera. Walkways are leading through but you can see them really up close. So close you also get the bad smell! Entrance to the area natural protegida was free. They just noted down passport numbers at the gate. There were no obvious signs that pets weren't allowed. We still kept our dog in the vehicle. Really beautiful area worth a visit. Roads get muddy quickly with rain.

Free entrance, 08:00 am to 06:00 pm

Update 2019: Please be aware that pets are not allowed! (Diseases could be transferred from the penguins to your pets or vice versa, thats why it is super important to respect this rule)

Latest Check-Ins

Since December 2023 visitors have to pay 3000 Pesos p.P.
Totaly worth it! The baby penguins were all at the entry of their nests. We could observe them right next to us.

Report Check-In

lindo parque, porém não era época dos pinguins, a época de reprodução é entre final de outubro a dezembro.
De qualquer maneira vale muito a visita, a paisagem é deslumbrante!

Report Check-In

early may, place still open but no pingouins

Report Check-In

What a beautiful, nature lovers paradise, absolutely recommended, end of April still more than 200 penguins out of approx. 1000. Chicks are losing their last feathers and getting ready to venture out. We went in the evening for an hour, slept at one of the beach spots nearby and then the next morning went again. Also lots of guanacos and some armadillos, and the sea is full of sea lions from the nearby island (year round population - bring binoculars!).

Report Check-In

incredible place, don't miss it ! We saw guanacos, maras, ñandus, and penguins for sure ! All the fauna is very close.
The road to acces is not paved, but you can easily go with a car or a motorhome.

Report Check-In

Absolute must see! Very good ripio (best so far). Left my dog in the car at the parking. And so many camp spots on the way here, just amazing.

Report Check-In

Great place, unbelievable that it is free. 5 other people on a sunny Saturday. The walkways are right next to the nests and some of the penguins even nest right under them. You could (but shouldn’t!) touch the penguins.
Very infant chicks at the end of November and a couple of unhatched eggs.

Report Check-In

Really worth a detour!
We didn't gonto punta tombo, but from what we heard, it is at least as good.
we saw pinguins, guanacos, nandus very close ! (sea lions from far away)

Report Check-In

Penguin reserve. In October they cover the eggs, the most interesting moment is at the end of the afternoon because they get up to hatch and cry out to chase away the predators and call their spouse. There is a walk of a few kilometers, easy with children. The landscape is very pretty and takes you on a point where you to admire the sea. Full of guanacos.

Report Check-In

Very good gravel road.
We had the place most time for us.
We saw Magellan pinguins, 2 different nandus, guanacos, armadillos and sea lions.
Free.

Very, very beautiful place. I can’t believe we had it to ourselves on a sunny Saturday, nobody around.
The road here: it had rained heavily all day the day before but stopped in the night.
We drove out at 8:30 am and the first 6 km were very soft and muddy. However after that the road gets better, more gravel and harder surface.

Report Check-In

the road is fresh done. best experience ever. magic place. never forget. for free.

Report Check-In

Highly recommend place! much better than any paid tour. It was still free when we were there.

Report Check-In

Check at park offices in town before coming here (star in iOverlander)! Not for permission, but for road conditions!

Didn’t get to see them. Was told by tourist information girl that the road was good ripio. We slept at one of the sites along the way when everything was dry...it started raining at night and all morning. It stopped at 11am, so we headed here.

Got stuck in the mud!!! This is not gravel at all!!!

Bomberos helped us get out, but on the return, we both got stuck on the road and had to wait for a tracker.!!! They didn’t ask for anything but we ‘donated’ some money for their help.

Be careful coming here! Turn around at the first sign of problems!

Beautiful Pinguinera. Still free. We liked it better than Punta Tombo, less tourists and friendly, informative guardaparque. At the moment you can see a lot of young ones, only few hours to days old. Lovely.

Report Check-In

Wonderful place to observe the penguins from up close. At this time of the year they are sitting on their eggs (mostly two of them). At the End of November the eggs will start hatching and the babys will be born.
We luckily didn't have to pay any entrance fee.

If you go there I highly reccomend you to have a chat with the nice park ranger. She knows a lot about this cute animals and will give you a lot of interesting informations and answer your questions :-)

Report Check-In

We are amazed that this place is free. We saw a lot of penguins, closer than we could imagine. They are literally at your feet! Please, respect them and stay on the path. We totally recommand it!

Report Check-In

Beautiful place and great wildlife. We saw thousand of pingouins for saw close that we can't even imagine. There is a a kind of passerelle crossing their territory and it's the only place humans can walk on in order to not damage their lands (pingouin's lands I mean). And the passerelle is literally going through the middle of their nest it's impressive and beautiful. Sat their for hours to watch them and some curious also como to watch you closer. They were very active when we were there (around 11.30am - 3pm) going to the sea and from, taking sun bath...
September/October: they still arrive on the beach (apparently up to 9000 pingouin's in this colony)
November - March : babies time

Still free.

Report Check-In

start of pingui season, we saw one arriving from the sea and walking few meter from us looking for a nest.

distant huge sealion colony

Report Check-In

Amazing place! Apparently penguins are migrating to Brazil on the end of April but we still saw hundreds of them. It is really nice walk, you can get very close to them and hear sea lions from island in the front. Also the ranger is really helpful and chatty and explained us everything. Also he let us to stay next to the entrance for two days and also have a shower! We were so happy because we didn’t have hot shower for days... he spoke just Spanish but was very friendly. Also loads of guanacos:)

Report Check-In

This was amazing! One of the best wildlife experiences we’ve ever had. We sea lions on the nearby island, guanacos, and of course hundreds of penguins. (Still free.)

Report Check-In

Higly recommenced!!!

Still free entrance, we saw hundreds of penguins, some of them were so close, lovely country side, lot of other animals.

Report Check-In

Very close view of the penguins, few people and the gravel road to the spot is pretty decent.
Still free as they are out of tickets atm.

Report Check-In

Much less touristic place than Punto Tonbo. We were pretty much alone, you can get close up and personal with the penguins.

Rangers spoke English and gave some basic information. It was free - we were told the tickets have ended and new not yet arrived ;).

The penguin colony is much smaller than in Tonbo, but even so I would recommend this place.

Report Check-In

A must visit !! We were alone in the middle of hundreds of pingouins. There is a walk way through them to walk all the way to the ocean. Very very neat place. Free for us. We stopped at the Ranger station and he waited us through.

Report Check-In

it isn't free, since 11.2018 it cost 185 Pesos /P

Report Check-In

It's not free any more. 110$ for residents and 185$ for foreigners.
But still a really great place ! You can see more animals than only pinguins, and sleep in caleta Sara.

Report Check-In

still free, but in Punta tombo you can stay with the penguins much closer. But, it's a great place to see the wildlife near to you. worth a visit!

Report Check-In

Awesome place to see a lot of magellan's pingouins from very close and in a beautiful natural landscape !!! A short walk will lead you to a mirador where you can see sea lions. Entrance still free! Highly recommended!

Report Check-In

A really good place to see pinguins! Thousands and very near you! To see!

Thanks to add this place, really nice.

Report Check-In

Wonderfull this place. Many pinguins very near us! It's possible to observe their life in nature nursing their cuffs.

Report Check-In

Very cool place, it was free and the road was in good condition (i mean as an Overlander we had seen worst) we were only lucky enough to see 2 pingüinos out of the thousands that live there. They migrate In may and come back in August so come between August and April to have an epic adventure :) anyways we enjoyed it, we saw an armadillo, many Guanacos, rheas , and from far away thousands of Sea lions . The park is open year round as the ranger lives there, (despite the tourist office told us it was closed, we drove here)

Report Check-In

Awesome place thanks to the first user for adding this ! We saw a thousand of Magellan penguins and sealions.

The park open at 08:00 am and close at 06:00 pm. Free entrance. Very friendly guardian park. We were the first people of the day at 03:00 pm.

Strongly recommended !

Yes, it's a very good place and similar like punta tombo. BUT it is for FREE ! you can see thousends of pinguins and some other animales.

Report Check-In

Nice place with a lot of penguins and less tourists than in Punta Tombo. When we came here it was just us and another couple. Very windy, but still very nice to watch the penguins, guanacos and other animals. There is a huge colony of sea lions in the island next to this place too. Free.
