Description

In this area there aren’t many places to stay as many of the pull-outs are subject to rockfall. There is a small cabin by the side of the road with room to camp. When we arrived there was no one around but in the morning we met the very friendly farmer and owner of the cabin who gave us some fresh avocados. No Facilities. It would be possible to camp in Balsa but very hot !

Still a great place to spend the night if you don't want to stop in Balsa. We met Wilmer, the owner's grandson and he let us pitch our tent in an empty room, probably used for storage, perfect to be hidden from the road and to avoid rain. No facilities.

I was on a solo bike tour from Ecuador to Ushuaia. This was an excellent wild camp. Pros: Room in which to camp, for better privacy. Cool temperatures at 1821m. Water 200 m uphill. Potty places in soft soil within 20 m. No blackflies, only a few mosquitoes. Very peaceful and quite scenic (although less scenic than the higher WC’s). Only 1h20 from Balsas (20 km away).

There's just enough place for one car and we were two, so passed through. But about 1.7 km in the direction to Leylebamba there's an other pullout witch is bigger and looks nice for a night. But we didn't stay there because it was too early for us.

Arrived in the dark after a long drive from Cajamarca. We met the owner of the cabin and asked if it is ok to stay. He was very welcoming and friendly. After a handshake he gave us a huge Palta and Papaya as a gift. Very nice! The place itself is ok for an overnight stop. Some cars passed by during the night and the two dogs barked. So we didn't sleep so well.

Great spot to stay the night and break up the drive from Chachapoyas to Cajamarca. Owner never came by but we were here over the weekend. Very tranquil.

We had a fantastic easter at this awesome place. Spent two nights enjoying the tranquility, peacefulness and the beautiful scenery. In the morning the friendly owner of the cabin, who lives down in the valley came by on his donkey. He sometimes sleeps in the cabin but welcomed us very warm hearted to stay at his place. We totally enjoyed our time at this special place.

We drove from Leymebamba to Cajamarca... decided to stop here and enjoy the scenery. Made a little fire. Cooked diner under the roof of the cabin and enjoyed a silent wonderfull evening and night... No facilities but we loved it..

It was so hot down in Balsa, we couldn't help trying yo get higher out of the valley - but alas with roadworks and the dark catching up to us this is as far as we got. We recommend trying to get higher if you can. But this spot did the trick just fine - big rigs might find the space a bit too small. Right on the roadside.
