Latest Check-Ins

We wanted to go to this camping to start a hike early, but came too late because the opening hours of this parc are only from 8:00am-3:00pm and after it is closed with a gate+lock. so better come punctual.

if you want more infos about the hike and the parc - in the tourist center in the main plaza in Gracias they are super nice and will give you all the information of the town/honduras and this parc :) we also got folders that we could take for free.

Report Check-In

Road is a bit craggy after the entrance booth but I found it very manageable on a bike. Still 120L to visit. It took about 3.5 hours to do trails 1, 2, and 3. Not sure you can camp without a significant hike.

120 lempiras: entrada

Report Check-In

I went for the hike during the day. The park is very well organized. There was a Park ranger with two Honduras Military guards who uodate me about the trails. Great hiking place. The trails are beautiful.

Nice national park, we have done the hike until the mirador of the waterfall (around 8km, 500m of elevation gain, 3h30). The forest is really wonderful. About the view on the waterfall this is not impressive even during raining season, the waterfall is still pretty far. We don't sleep here but the place seems really quiet, there are toilets, cold shower, tables under a shelter and electricity. It costs 100L for each adult, free for children. About the price of the national park it is still 120L for adult, free for children.

Beautiful park with serious hiking trails, river and waterfall. prices as stated above (120 lemp pp entrance + 100 l/pp to camp). From the entrance (where you have to pay) you have 1km dirt road very steep and tight (1 lane)
We did it with a 2WD / ram promaster, but I would not do it a second time. (but maybe the road is better outside rainy season?)
At the top you have a good parking lot with bathroom, showers and a covered picnic area.
Entrance gate is locked and has a security guard by night.
We felt safe and spent a night in solitude at the parking lot, as the only humans in this huge and beautiful forest.
ps: no wifi, no signal claro/tigo.

It is a beautiful Nationalpark, that seems even least visited on weekends. There are longer and shorter hikes + of course the overnight hike up to the highest peak of Honduras. It may be possible to do it in one day to the top and back to the entrance, if you are fit and start early.
Always be aware that you should take food and drinks (water!!!) with you for the hike.
I recommend visiting this unique place. It became one of my favourite destinations in Honduras!

We took our car to the visitor Center to hike in the park. You pay at the entrance of the park (before the visitor parking), still 120lp. With did the waterfall hike and the two smaller ones. El Gallo was closed due to fallen trees and the top of the mountain is advised to do in 2 days (they told us it can only be done with a guide, but I think I read otherwise). Not allowed to swim in the rivers as it’s a watersource where people drink from.

Warning, not for big RVs.
The kids also speak English.

We did not sleep here but visited the park and enjoyed our time here. Cooler weather, lovely scenery, and different trails available from easy to difficult, and varying in total duration. FYI, it was a steep road to get here but mostly paved and doable with our 2WD. Price for entrance ticket is 120HNL per person. We got there early and had the park mostly to ourselves.

Report Check-In

Still 120 entrance, 100 camping. I put the tent within one of the house/palapa. I paid only once, so 220 lempiras for 3 nights. Great place and trail as commented previously. Only downside, showers are icy cold. Trails all open. February, no rain, no mud on trail. Did Cascada and El Gallo trails.

Report Check-In

Really friendly ranger.
120L pp for the entrance, and 100L pp for camping.
We did a few hikes, which are nice. Nevertheless, at this moment a part of El Gallo trail collapsed, so you can't access the mirador.
The road leading there is paved, just the 2 last kilometers are made of parallel concrete tracks. We had no issues with our 2WD Chevy van in rainy season.
Camping is nice, it's supposed to have a guard at night but he was off duty when we came.

We arrived late afternoon 3pm ish. The ranger greeted us warmly. We paid 120L per person for park entry, and 100L per person for camping, but he told us it was all good for two nights, so we stayed two nights. It's cool and tranquil up here. Our dog was very welcome at camp, but no dogs on trails. The Ranger leaves around 4pm, and is not back tell 8am. You may want to arrive in those hours as there is a gate 3k from visitor area where we camped. We did a nice hike that was 4 hours long to a view of a waterfall. It's called the cascada trail. The longest trail is estamated at 12 hours with camping locations along the way. This takes you to the highest point in Honduras. There is a 5-6 hour hike, the one we did, a 2 hour hike, and a 20 min hike as well as a lookout/bird tower close to the visitor center.

Report Check-In

Camped in the parking lot between restrooms and a huge palapa. This is the only flat space here. Because of heavy rain we were happy to cook under the palapa. Restrooms and showers are clean. The ranger welcomed us and gave us lot of information about the place and trails to do. We paied 120 Lempiras entrance fee / people and 100 Lempiras camping fee / people.

Report Check-In

We really liked this place, both the hikes as camping! Entrance fee is still 120L pp and camping an additional 100L pp. We did the gallo hike which is about 5-6 hours and uphill for the first 3h! Nice views and we were the only people in the park so really nice! Camping is great and fresh (first time we got our coats back out in a while). Showers are really cold but all clean so better spot than staying a 2nd night in Finca Bavaria.

Camped at the visitor center. 210 L per person park entrance and 100 L per person to camp. Very nice facilities and staff. Clean restrooms and showers. Good information about the hikes. Fresh temperatures. Covered area with tables we used to cook and hang out. Level spot to camp. There's very small and humble comedor 100 meters down the road. The name is comedor Alejandrina. A nice cultural experience.

Incredibly beautiful and pristine place. 120L per person for entrance fee (one-time fee) and another 100L per person (per night) for camping. Super quiet and tranquil with lots of opportunities for short and long hikes. We did the challenging overnight hike to Cerro Las Minas (highest point in Honduras!) and saw the sunrise from *above* the clouds. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. And you *can* do it without a guide - the trail is really well-marked. Visitors center has super clean bathrooms and showers. Highly recommended!

Report Check-In

We asked 3 locals about the road to the park and they all said the road was mostly paved and wide. Well the first couple of miles were dirt but okay. Next came the pavement. But then the road became steep and narrow, with some pavement. We were driving our truck with camper. We were extremely lucky that there was no traffic coming down the hill, as there was no room for any passing. We RV a lot and at home are both bus drivers. This road, in our big, heavy vehicle was not good.
The visitor center lot is pretty, with a couple of spots where you can level your rig. Friendly park employees, quiet camping. Bathroom, shower and water available. I would not drive this rig up her again. Maybe good for a van. Taxis do come up here...

camping 100hnl per person. we can recommend the 'gallo' trail, approx 5-6 hours, elev.gain 1000 meters. they also have a 2 day hike to the peak and 2 tent areas along the trail. they lock the gate after 4 p.m.
