Between Chilecito & Villa Union, on Ruta 40. A sweet little zone with a few different swimming holes, great canyon hike & free camping. An excellent desert oasis!
Pull off the highway behind guard rail & see the flat lot (big rig and tent friendly [tent sites also below in riverbed]). Imagine an upside down T when looking into the gorgeous red canyon filled with cactus: trails down then following the creek left is a great hike, straight to 2 swimming holes (and right towards highway). …. Just to clarify, you are hiking north to get to the pools.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Nice spot. Close to the road but barely visible and quiet (very few trafic at nigh). Lots of space. You can walk a little downward to go to the river (little water in the beginning of november for us). The access is in the curve, between the rocks and the rail. Fireplace and wood. Felt safe and good for a night.
Report Check-InPerfect spot, beautiful with pretty clean water.
spend the night there, it is a little bit close to the road however
Nice spot to spend the day and the night. Unfortunately some trash around.
Report Check-InAs described. Awesome place. I picked up a bunch of 2liter soda bottles that were cut up or in pieces. Left the others which were full of water. Cleaned up the soda bottle wrappers in the creek. This place is beautiful. Definitely stop and walk to the pools, which is accurately located by the tourist attraction pin.
Report Check-InVery nice place. There is water in the large swimming pool. We were all alone. possible to camp
Report Check-InGreat place, don't miss it! Little canyon full of cacti with some swimmingholes. We didn't stay the night because we were there early in the day. But it would have been a perfect spot.
Report Check-InNice place now in terms of there's no trash to be seen, but we also didn't stay as it's very visible from ruta 40
Report Check-InA few reasons why we didn't stay:
- horrendous amounts of trash (used diapers!!)
- parking lot is less than 30 m from the ruta 40 and there is full visibility
- there are two electricity lines right over the parking that make noise in the wind
- and even more trash
The pools are beautiful and there is a lot of water mid March. But did not take a bath due to the trash.
Report Check-InWe enjoyed the cold water in the pools and camping at the back of the parking lot. We arrived in the early afternoon by late afternoon 4PM locals started to arrive, they were gone before it got dark. Spent a quiet night. It’s a pity the beauty of the spot is marred by dirty diapers, empty plastic bottles, foil junk food packets, used toilet paper and plastic bags scattered all over the place.
Report Check-InGreat place for overnighting and fantastic place for a refreshing bath in the heat of the desert. The two pools with constant fresh water filling are in the little canyon on the opposite side of the parking lot.
For the top one you have to climb a very little bit. Great scenery.
No sign of the pools in late March, but all other rivers nearby are dried up so that's no surprise. Still a little flowing water though, enough to wash in.
Nice quiet tent camp at the end of the 'car park'. A bit of rubbish around - keep it clean folks!
Great spot to break up the drive from Cafayate to Mendoza. Didn’t make it to the water holes but really enjoyed our peaceful and free night here!
Report Check-InEasy to find now! If you go south on your side of the street it will be marked on the signs and ground as "las aguaditas" by black graffiti from some nice person. Really worth the visit although in winter it was to cold for us to take a dip. Be prepared in the morning it snowed a lot although the day before was hot and sunny.
Report Check-InWe loved this little camp spot. Plenty of room for 2-3 vehicles. Flat parking, quiet at night and little fire pits.
Report Check-InNothing more to tell, except we loved this place with good quality water
Report Check-InNice quite over night spot, flat ground and clean with 3 water pools for a refreshing dip in the summer. Persevere with looking for the pools, it took us a little while but they are there!
Report Check-InNice little place 100 my away from the road. You can go on a little hike in the canyon
Report Check-InRight off the Ruta 40 - big space to park and camp. Not much shade. Tricky to find the good swimming holes - walk down to the river and turn slightly right and then towards the canyon. Don't go downstream. Few holes and a waterfall further up. Road is quiet at night.
Report Check-InNice place to camp and hang out by the swimming holes (you have to walk about 300 m down a little trail). Even in dry season it's deep enough to swim and jump from the rocks. The gps coordinates are exact, turn off is before/after the guard rail. I
