Latest Check-Ins

Also for the first time during our trip at the border crossing between Chile and Argentina they checked and did not allow the transfer of fruits, vegetables and eggs.

Report Check-In

On entering Argentina everything normal except they wanted to see fruits and vegetables. They confiscated some onions, carrots, and eggs. Hasn’t happened at any other border entering Argentina but maybe a new rule?

Report Check-In

Chile to Argentina. Friendly staff both sides. It took us less than 10 minutes and we Have a dog with us.

Chile > Argentina as a foreigner with Chilean vehicle, I already have the padron and have crossed other borders over and back without issue. This is the first time I needed the declaracion jurada to cross according Aduana Argentina and they only gave me 1 month this time. It also probably helped that I was pretty much the last person of the day and they wanted to go home. I would have had to spend the night in no mans land as the Chilean side was already shut.

I think I finally finally figured out one issue. The problem of the Argentina Aduana was that the Chilean Aduana entered my passport number on the form not the RUT as they always do at other borders. Maybe see if the Chilean Aduana will do it for you with RUT instead, then maybe if you don't have the declaracion jurada you can cross.

We are a french couple with a chilean car (always a bit tricky for border crossing). Surprinsingly, even if we were leaving Argentina, they were very strict on the rules and verified every documents (driving licence, international insurance, padron, declaration jurada, TIP...). They said that sometimes, foreign people with chilean car didn't have the declaration jurada and that it was a problem. We had to empty our jerrycan in the tank of our car. But during all the process, the staff was friendly and it went very well. But be sure to have all the expected papers because they are indeed very stricts on regulations.

Out of Argentina. Fast and easy, less than 10 min. and nobody even looked at the car.

Report Check-In

Small and very pretty border crossing. There’s about 20 kms of gravel road (loose gravel but not all too bad) on the Argentinan side.

really fast and efficient border. steps 1,2, and 3 clearly marked and in order. we crossed with our dogs with paperwork from bariloche (only good for 10 days). the senasa guy took the dog paperwork and disappeared for like 5 minutes to stamp the paperwork and make a copy, and when he returned we were allowed to cross. even with the dogs only took 15 minutes to exit Argentina. no vehicle search done here and no one asked about our Jerry cans, even though they were empty. they did warn us the Chile was strict and we threw some produce away in a dumpster here.

Report Check-In

We crossed the border today (Arg to Chile) carrying on the roof of the car (completely visible) 2 x 20L gasoline jerry cans, since we don't have space inside and gas is way cheaper in Argentina. The Argentinian aduana got angry about the and and told us that it is forbidden to cross the border with flammable liquids outside the tank. But since we didn't know they did not confiscate the jerry cans. The Chilenian aduana asked if it was gasoline, we said yes and they did not do anything.

Small and friendly.
Walk to building. They give you a small paper and write down your license plate number.
Then enter building.
Step 1: passport in; no stamp! There is a QR code to follow your status once you are in)
Step 2: vehicle paperwork. If usa plate you don’t need paper from Chilean side.
Then they will accompany you to your vehicle for an inspection (very minor).
You keep one copy of the vehicle paperwork and give the small paper they gave you at the beginning to the border person outside.
All very fast and friendly. 20 minutes for us at noon

Friendly border crossing! Small office but very nice staff. They were thorough and asked lots of questions about our vehicle (Chilean plate) but we had no issues and they were very helpful with the language barrier.

Nice customs going to Chile. 15 minutes to get the car forms checked. Road to the boarder is not good in the second half.

they are super unfriendly especially one of them! sorry for that but they really searched for something to get us in trouble. they even blocked me to reenter argentina for no specific reason(they said its because my passport has damages) they also searched for fruits and veggies and wanted an argentina hotel adress from us. thank you for that warm welcome!

Then drive to the next checkpoint for Chile immigration.

Got here at 7:50pm. Finished by 7:55. Did not look in the truck. Did need address where we were staying. I attached a picture of an Airbnb address in Bariloche if anyone needs one. There is also a very friendly border cat you can play with.

Super bureaucratic pass. We had bought a foriegn car 2-3 weeks back and traveled with a poder until our papers are processed and the ownership transferred. We were able to cross borders easily in other places but here they were super strict about EVERYTHING and said that our poder, which was signed in Chile but specifies all SA countries, is not legal in Argentina (although it wasnt the first time we crossed over). The head of customes kindly proposed to confiscate our car, or return to Chile. Also they check for international insurence valid for Argentina. DONT cross here if your vehicle papers are not perfect... The Chileans took us back with open arms.

easy crossing Chile-Argentina , without checking van
BUT the rengers were really NOT NICE for us and the other people there.
You can’t also cross the border if U don’t tell them EXACT adress where you will staying (even if you are with campervan and want to stay in one of the free campings he asked about reservation).

Report Check-In

Absolutely terrible customs experience. They told us we could leave our car parked outside (we had a lot of food we didn't want to throw away when we went to Chile). When we came back the next day, our car was "sequestered" and we had to pay a fine. We had to leave our car, hitchhike to Esquel, pay the fine, wait for two days and then hitchhike back
To the border. Belittled and felt we were treated very unfairly. We were the only foreigners we saw, and we were the only people who had our bags X-rayed. Horrible experience from people who didn't treat us with any respect.

Report Check-In

Needing to renew our Chilean visas we walked from the Chilean border and were stamped into Argentina. They asked that we wait an hour for their systems to update before we exited, so we went 300m down the road to the picnic area by the bridge and went for a swim in the river. When we returned we were stamped out and walked back to Chile. Super easy!
