Description

This place is incredibly beautiful. I'm so glad we went out of our way to come visit.. We arrived Saturday evening. There were a few families having barbecues but everyone seemed to leave, when we woke up in the morning we were the only car here. When the wind is not blowing the mosquitoes are terrible, although first thing in the morning it was super cold and there were no mosquitoes. This place is 7,200 feet and perfect temperatures during the day, but very cold at night. Each campsite has picnic tables and barbecues. They sell firewood at the entrance gate and you are welcome to place a fire on the ground. There are a few different hiking trails ranging from 1 to 2 kilometers each and you can link them all together for a very nice longer hike. It is dog friendly and the trails were very easy for our very old dog to manage.
Cost is now p250 for 2 people- 100pp + 50 government nature tax. They issue an official receipt ticket for the entry and the tax.

Thank you for NOT bringing dogs. This place has many birds that feed on the ground. The camps are quiet and peaceful. There's porta potties in each camp. You must bring all of your own water. Many birds here. Very special place. Cabanas 1000 MX/ night. Bring a hot plate. This is a National Park of which there are few so cared for in Mexico. Margarito is very kind.

Beautiful park. We stayed for 2 nights. 100 peso per person per night. We stayed at camp 1 what was most quite. We arrived on Friday and left on Sunday and there were only 2 families on Saturday during the day. No mosquitos at all (probably to cold). It’s get cold during the night and in the morning but it warms up really fast when the suns comes up.
Would recommend this place for a quite and nice place to stay and the nice hikes!

Report Check-In

very beautiful national park. you can stay overnight with a 7 meter camper and NO 4x4 on all camp sites. no water. hiking trails best from site two three or four.
paid 200 peso for overnight stay two person and a 7 meter camper

Report Check-In

Unfortunately, no dog allowed in the park and this is strictly reinforced, since this is an area of nature conservation.

Report Check-In

Had a good evening at this park. As mentioned in prior post it can cool down in the evening but not too bad, 14 degrees Celsius was the low. Might be the time of the year but there was next to no mosquitos. Cost was 316 pesos for the night for camping at the La Virgen campsite. Washroom was not very great but usable, no showers or running water. Overall would recommend, seemed safe.

Report Check-In

As described but NOTE TO DOG OWNERS: there is a sign at the entry stating no pets allowed. I’m assuming this might be a new sign because none of the other signs in the park say anything about pets. We had already paid and the attendant had already seen our dog by the time we saw the sign so I guess they don’t enforce the rule. The second day we came across the attendant on the way out to a hike and he just wanted to make sure we kept the dog on a leash. Just posting this for information. It seems like they allow dogs despite the sign but permission may depend on who is working that day. Loved the park and are very grateful we were allowed to stay there.

Beautiful park and nice camping spots - several options even for big and tall rigs like ours. We paid 100 Peso/person/night.

Campamento 3 is our favorite (see park map enclosed). We were all alone, except during weekend. A little creek nearby provides water. Mobil toilet. Well maintained hiking trails. In the end, we spent 7 days in the park, hiked almost every trail and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the quiet.

Report Check-In

Stayed there a night, paid 200 pesos for two. What an amazing spot! We spent a quiet night. They have some pits and barbecue to make fire if you need. Tables and benches to sit around. Put toilets but better do without it (really dirty, no privacy). We were alone for the night but in the morning people started to come and put some loud music. What a pity as the place is amazing. I recommend to avoid weekends and holidays. Enjoy the hikes in the morning.

Report Check-In

Place is better than described! We were on the way to Durango but thanks to all the great reviews we turned around and visited for a few days. We are so glad we did. There were a few day trippers but other than them we had the whole park to ourselves after dark!
We attempted the cave hike but once we got inside and saw there were many many bats and several ways to go we decided to turn back. A guide would be a good idea! And a very powerful flashlight. Haha
We did some other hikes though and yes the place is quite clean except for all the toilet paper in the bushes. What is the matter with women?? How can you come to enjoy the beauty of nature then leave your toilet paper behind? Just take it with you! Put it in a baggie and dump it responsibly later! While you are at it bring along a bag to collect garbage too. That would be awesome.
Anyway… it was a really lovely adventure and we highly recommend it to others.

This place is amazing!!

We spent two night camping here and wanted to stay longer! We paid 400 for two nights. We basically had the whole place to ourselves the first night but some people came the next night. Such a stunning landscape and a lot of beautiful hiking trails! So worth the visit!

The camping spots are nicely setup with picnic tables and BBQ’s. Campsite 3 and 4 have a portable toilets. Hot during the day but does get pretty cold at night which is refreshing!

Beautiful sunsets and sunrises and tons of stars! No cell reception unless you hike to the look-outs at the end of the hiking trails.

Bugs can get pretty bad when the wind stops though.

Still amazing, but cost is now p250 for 2 people- 100pp + 50 government nature tax. They issue an official receipt ticket for the entry and the tax.

Totally agree with others, beautiful NP. Start the trail that goes from campamento 4 to campamento 3 an hour before sunset for spectacular views and beautiful light. Also a good place to take photos of the milky way. We also did the cave hike, but turned around as our dog was too scared halfway through 🐶.

Superschöner Platz in der Natur. Wir waren zwei Nächte allein. Schöne Wanderwege. Am besten man ist autark.

Super nice place in nature. We were alone for two nights. Beautiful hiking trails. It is best to be self-sufficient.

Report Check-In

Stayed 3 nights here. Beautiful. Bad news prices have increase 100 peso per person per night. No charge for dogs. Great place to walk and we saw no one on the trails :)

This is a very beautiful nature place. 4 differnt possibilities to stay overnight with üit tpilets, fireplaces and picinictables. The hike between the rock formation is easy but beautiful with a nice mirador. 50 pesos per night, per person. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

amazing place. we loved it too. were almost alone. one of the highlights of our time in Mexico.

Report Check-In

Beautiful park. Empty at this time of year, so we had our choice of campsites. No water here so bring your own. Wonderful hiking!

Report Check-In

Such a great spot, man! Everything is as described. Please check out the Cave trail, frigging amazing. So glad we saw this place on iOverlander.

50 peso per person per night.

Report Check-In

Thanks to IOverlander we came to this amazing place for a few days. Absolutely worth the visit. Come fully prepared as there isn’t anything here. 50p pp, great hiking. Watch out for snakes. You have to pack out your garbage. Locals like to party with loud music till late.
Anticlockwise is the best direction to hike if you want to go through the rock cave to the other side. Entrance is on back side. Take good flashlight, approx 500m long. Out the other side trail isn’t easy to find as it was overgrown. Exit cave & climb out on left then up grippy steep rock face. Carefully follow trail down, look for little rock guides. Took us 5hrd in sneakers & 2 kids 9 &7. Stopped lots for snacks & photos. Stunning views, totally worth it.

Report Check-In

we werent sure if it would be open as things are only now slowly starting to reopen due to covid. they are and we spent two nights. beautiful park! barely anyone there we had
the whole place to ourselves at times. friendly staff. 50pesos pp to sleep. only thing is there arent many toilets and they are very basic. no showers. minimal cell reception.

Report Check-In

Definitely worth a stop. We stayed 2 nights and had the whole place to ourselves. There are some pretty cool trails around that paths are well marked and lined with rocks. I think they have done quite a bit of trail maintenance.

Report Check-In

If you find yourself anywhere near this place, do yourself a big favor and visit it for a few days, or weeks. We absolutely loved it here. The nature, the hiking, the peace and quiet. Our first night, the fireflies came out in force at sunset. I have never seen it like this and it really was mystical. We only had a few mosquitos for maybe an hour at the end of the day. The highs were 75-80 and the lows 55-60, which we think is perfect.

Report Check-In

Had one calm night at this wonderful place; hiked most of the signed &unsigned trails ...just awesome! We’re the only ones in the park. The price was now 50Pesos/person...absolutely worth the money

Report Check-In

Excellent place to camp. Very quiet, especially if you take the first left to the first camping spot. Lots of trails to hike and a cave you can walk through. It is best to have a guide for the cave hike.

Report Check-In

As said before, great spot.
We paid 40 P per person.
After the entrance, you drive for a little while till you get to a fork in the road.
You can go left or right, we went left - found to the right the Mexicans like to come and play loud music during the day.
Many of the marked hiking trails looks to be on the right side (of the fork), on the road a 15 minutes walk from the left side.
Going with a guide to the caves today, for 4 people paying 450 P total, hiked by ourselves yesterday - stunning nature.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot, good price 40p per person per night. We were the only ones there except for some javelinas. Enjoyed a hike in the morning with the dogs.

Report Check-In

Very nice and quiet place to stay.40 pesos per person.

Good hiking place

Report Check-In

40 pesos a person to camp overnight. No fires and they give you garbage bag to keep clean the park. Very nice!

Report Check-In

Amazing park! Make sure you walk both hiking trails! We marked the starting points in ioverlander.

Report Check-In

This place is beautiful, secure and quite. 40 pesos per night. We spent two days there. Lots of great trails, but not always well identified. I recommend reading about it before going since there is not much info about it insight. That being said, pricey guides are available there (200 to 400 pesos for a 2 to 4 hour hike).

It seems that rockclimbing is not allowed because of the fragility of the rock. What a shame :-(

Report Check-In

Awesome spot, would never have found without ioverlander. We we're only campers, only the entrance dude and a couple of rangers around. We kept right after entrance, ignored left turn and went to the end where there are a bunch of spot and very clean chemical toilet. Also a tiny stream clean enough for our solar shower bag.

Report Check-In

Amazing campsite, worth the detour. There are 4 different spots where you can park, with tables and shade. Super calm. We stayed one night and saw no one. Beautiful hikes and nice temperature. Police came by in the morning just to check, it looked like a routine.

Report Check-In

Amazing! We had the place for ourselves two days. Some people came during the day for hiking but left before sunset. If you are passing by is definitely worth a visit!

Report Check-In

Absolutely wonderful, beautiful landscapes and not a single noise at night.

Stayed here in the hopes of hiking some. Nature has other plans, was 40F and rained hard all day and night then all day again. Looked great though. Quiet and peaceful. 80p for two people to camp

So amazing. We loved it. Walk to the "mirador" to get 4G. If that matters to you. We walked along the trails several times. The landscape is just superb. Very quiet at night, during the day locals BBQ mostly families. Campground fee is M$40 p/p and can stay for several days.
