Great place to park a van and make dinner as well as breakfast in the morning. There are about 3 gravel spots each with picnic tables and garbage cans. There’s a parking lot area near the trailhead at this location that we saw someone camping in. Great place to look at the stars. Went to McDonald observatory next day and it was worth it. $3 general admission, $5 for GA with an exhibit lecture and $10 for a tour around the telescopes.

Great quiet spot. Came on a Saturday night and was the only one here. Plenty of room and very flat. Highly recommend.

As others have stated, this is a fantastic place to spend the night. Super quiet. Lots of space. And tree cover for warmer months.

As described. So peaceful. I arrived an hour before sunset, and from then till the next morning only heard two cars drive past. Full moon, fireflies dancing in the arroyo.

This is an awesome, quiet and free spot. No service for Verizon or other carriers. Great hike!

Beautiful place to stay. Everyone else has described it perfectly. Nothing else to add. Great hike from the trailhead with mountain views.

I didn’t even know this scenic loop existed! It’s 75 miles and takes 2 hours to complete without stopping. Great views along the way. The observatory unfortunately is closed due to covid. This is a great little spot with no amenities but grills and picnic tables. There is a short 2.8 mile hike you can do as well. It’s about an hour and a half drive to Guadeloupe National Park if you’re looking for a quiet place to crash. Oh this drive is also the highest highway in Texas. Do this and then hike to the highest peak in Texas at Guadeloupe NP. Good times! It gets cold here!

Beautiful spot with an equally beautiful drive in. As mentioned by others it is incredibly quiet here save for an occasional coyote howl. The trail is a easy 2.4 mile hike with about 175’ of elevation gain. It’s worth doing to get a better glimpse at the surrounding area. 100% worth the drive.

Good place. Good little hike. Dead quiet at night.

Great place to stay for the night! There are about 6 small pull outs on the picnic road. No facilities but very quiet. Would have stayed a few days if we were not on our way home.

Great stay. Quiet. No one else showed up until well after dark, then only a couple of vehicles. Was visited by a squadron of javelina. Really enjoyed the drive through these hills.

Very quiet and beautiful picnic area. It can get pretty cold during the night in February:)

Stayed here for the second time. Also on the day while we where waiting for the star gazing it's quiet. Nice and clean

Report Check-In

Nice quiet place, almost no traffic uses this road through the mountain. We used the spot after a star gazing party at the observatory (short drive).

Indeed a beautiful spot to camp under pine and juniper trees. All 5 spots are very spacious with table/bench, bbq grill with a work place next to it and a waste bin. Very, very clean - what a wonderful sight - and somehow relief (compared to the countries further south with trash everywhere on public land).

Report Check-In

Great spot. As described. You can stop at the observatory on the way for some amazing views.

Report Check-In

Nice peaceful spot to unwind for the evening. Quiet, lots of space between sites, no traffic and it sets back off the road. No cell service, but wonder stars.

Big Picnic Area in the Davis Mountains. There are 5 picnic sites with lot of space around. The area is shaded from Juniper and Pine trees. The nearby road is not used frequently. So it is very quiet.

Nice park to sleep for a night off the Fort Davis Scenic Loop. Very quiet. As previously mentioned, there are picnic tables and garbage cans available. There are about five sites, but they're very spread out so you have plenty of privacy. Free!
