Description

informal campground run by a local family, it is just across a dirt road from the expensive Las Guacamayas resort. Stop at the house on the corner at the top of the hill and talk to Magdalena. She'll make sure the bathrooms are clean and ready for use. This place is usually only busy on holidays. We've never seen anyone else camped here and we've stayed several times. Charge is $50P per person for flush toilets and cold showers. No electricity, no water hook-ups, no wifi, no cell reception. Just 2 minutes from the bank of the Lacantun River. We've had howler monkeys and spider monkeys visit us in camp. We see toucans and aracaris and scarlet macaws (guacamayas). The resort has a restaurant where you can eat if you'd like. And if they have guests you can arrange to share the cost of a boat trip on the river. Not much in the way of supplies in town so come with your own. Very nice family. Wander about the village. wonderful experience.

Still 50 peso per person - the actual camp ground is a little further down the road on the left but ask in the tienda on the approaching corner or continue down to the camp ground and someone will appear. Super clean toilets and shower. Lots of fruit trees (the abuela gifted us bananas, limes and Indian pears) - she's adorable and makes sure you're settled in. The land is open but it's the smallest quaintest town so safe and very tranquil. There's a wash area for laundry too if needed. Cabañas onsite, big rig friendly - no cell signal but wifi available to buy from the tienda (it didn't work for us so she gave us a refund). Saw both spider and howling monkeys (plenty), macaws, toucans and lots of birds. The tienda is pretty well stocked with all the basics with some vegetables and fruit. No need to do the boat tour in our opinion through the resort next door as all the wildlife is on your doorstep - beautiful swimming in the lake. There's a macaw rescue centre on the outside of town if you have a walk around.

Nice level area at the property next to the resort. Paid 100mxn for 2 people and a truck camper. Bathrooms are good and showers are decent. Great wildlife in the area.

Lovely place, would absolutely recommend going here if you're going the way around Guatemalan border. Saw the monkeys in the morning (around 7:30-8:00) - right around the fence going in the trees, one howler monkey even went on the ground in front of me for a while :) and lots of birds.
Still 50pp, clean, nice lady showed us the way. Electricity at the bathroom about 10-15m away, so you can plug in.
Most importantly - the road from the south here is fully paved now (occasional big potholes but no big deal), so getting here was quite comfortable, we had no idea :)

Magnifique endroit en pleine nature , réveillé par le cri des singe hurleurs . Il y en à beaucoup dans le coin. Nous avons eu la visite d'un beau spécimen au petit déjeuner . Autres espèces a débusquer ,perroquets, toucan, crocos.

Beautiful place in nature area. Paid 50$mex per vehicle. Had Internet in the hotel nearby. Really nice!

Beautiful and spotless clean camp spot. 50p/pers.
You don't have to book the expensive boat tour, just walk around in the early morning and you will see the trees full of Guacamayas.
A spidermonkey family has its way above the trees between cabañas and river and does crossing mornings and evenings. Stroll around the hotel yard and you'll find howler monkeys. People in the pretty village are very nice and helpful. Awesome!!!!

It seems to be the same place as the one placed next to it. As described, power available from the bathrooms.
We booked a boattrip into the national park at the resort next door. 2 or 3h trip is about 2000 M$ per boat with up to 8 persons. Well wort the money, we saw birds, crocs and 3 tapirs. Others have seen a jaguar.

Adjacent to the Guacamayas resort there is an inexpensive campground run by a local family. We have stayed there several times over the last 6 years. There are clean flush toilets and cold showers but no power and no wifi. There is not even any cell service. The resort does ha e wifi but only for people staying there. The campground is just a 2 minute walk to the Lacantun River. We see howler and spider monkeys in camp, toucans, aracaris, and, of course, guacamayas. The village is tiny and tidy with foot paths leading from home to home. No services so bring in your food and supplies. The resort does have a restaurant.

A big grassy area. Clean bathrooms. Can confirm previous entry.

This place is right at the last right hand turn on the concrete road leading to the Las Guacamayas Centro Ecoturistico on the left. The woman there showed us down the gravel road to a large grassy area with bathrooms and showers (4 of ea) where we were able to plug in. Paid 50p pp. Quiet. We saw lots of howlers and about a dozen pair of macaws. Resort has Wi-Fi that works at & near reception; password: a2016macao. We went for a swim in river too.
