Fort De Soto is a real gem. Park entrance is only $5. There are 2 toll bridges near by but they were very affordable. Once in the park you can take your pick of beach. The area is mostly undisturbed and offers lots of plants and wildlife to enjoy. Although there is a main beach area that has a concession stand and facilities. We chose to to go the dog beach. It is right by the dog park and is a short walk from a large parking lot. The beach is very clean and in a much nicer location than I expected. Our pup enjoyed it very much. The water was the perfect temperature and clarity was good. Can’t recommend enough.

The section of the dog park to the fort peir was green dirty water for the first 5 feet and it was stinky. Some areas had green bits all over the sand, others were clean. People were still at the beach, but many choose not to swim here. I'm not sure if it's temporary or not, but the north beach didn't have this problem.
