They don’t have indoor parking. We only had one day left on our TIP so couldn’t really go anywhere else. We will be leaving it here for 91 days so as to have another 90 day TIP kick in. You pay when you leave apparently.

Been using El Coco for my motorcycle since 2019, intended to only store for one year and continue my trip south jn 2020. But we all know how 2020 plans worked out.
Remember that you need to return once a year, otherwise the vehicle has to be registered in Costa Rica (and it’s very expensive process).

The manager is very nice and helpful.
English is limited, Spanish helps.

The system with the customs have recently been renewed (end of 2022), for taking your vehicle out of the storage you now go first to the INS to get insurance before going to El Coco (this saves you time compared to the old system).

We did leave Costa Rica without our car without going to aduana (customs) and came back before the TIP expired. Storage in almacen fiscal (was not necessary) either.

Only thing is that whe entering CR via SJO we were not able to show a ticket to leave the country. After long explanations the border agent let us in.

So either you do buy an alibi ticket to be able to show that you fly out of the country. (Many airlines let you cancel a booking within 24-48hours with full reimbursement.) Or you show them your TIP which we did not have with us.

Check out Marta's homestay a bit up north to stay the night before after your flight and ask if you can store your car at her place.

Stored my motorcycle here for 10 days while I returned to Canada. Because I had lots of time on my TIP and was only storing the bike for a short period, I did not have to deal with the suspension of TIP and aduana process. Jorge is the person to speak to - he is a very nice guy and makes the process very easy. Bike and luggage was all there as I had left it upon my return. $3 USD per day for covered storage.

We left our truck here in June for 6 weeks. Yes the recommended that we take our plates off as they said someone likes to collect them as souvenirs.
Everything was in order on our return.
Note.. make sure the Aduana include the 'movement number' (issued by the storage company) on their papers otherwise the storage company will not release your vehicle.

Demandez d'etre garé sous les fenetres des bureaux, et ne rien laisser en vue.
Poser la separation cellule / poste de conduite comme pour un shipping.

WARNING: I stored my overland vehicle here from April 2016 to Feb 2016 and it was plundered. License plates stolen and a few thousand dollars worth of equipment went missing. Manager won't assume responsibility and police are now involved. I suggest looking elsewhere. This process has really thrown a wrench into my travels- wait... they stole the wrenches too !

$3/Day Indoor Storage (Toyota Tundra w\four wheel camper)

Drop Off - Provide Title, Vehicle Import Permit, and Passport. Received sticker for dashboard. Talked to staff and asked for indoors only. Parked in warehouse and gave them key to truck. No payment at this time. You pay when you return. You receive paper stating your vehicle is in storage (Needed to suspend vehicle permit at aduana)

*Go to aduana near airport to have permit suspended. We used the El Coco office WiFi to request an Uber to aduana.

Pick-up - Go to Aduana first. Bring your suspended vehicle permit, passport, and proof of insurance. IMPORTANT- When you receive your reactivated permit be sure it has the "Movimiento #" listed ON the permit (Not a separate page) If not you'll take extra taxis, and wait forever for the lady to return from lunch and correct the form.

*Permit will be issued for remainder of suspended Vehicle Permit time or remainder of insurance time, whichever is shorter.

You can now retrieve your vehicle with the new reactivated permit. Pay at Almacen Fiscal office (credit card accepted) and find your vehicle. Our truck had been moved to the other side of the warehouse and had a completely dead battery. Took two more Ubers to get an overpriced battery and we're finally back on the road.

I've used them twice in the past two years for quite long storage. I was able to bargain them to $67 usd/month for outside spot. Im heading back shortly to retrieve my ride! (Used them in 2016 and soon in 2017.
The last time my license plates were removed for someone's future collection. There was a pile of foreign plates on the ground when I returned after many months... including mine! I got them back! Woot!)
