Description

Thousands of camping and hiking opportunities. We chose a spot with a gorgeous view at 6200 elevation. It went to 35 degrees last night in the mountains. A panorama of beauty. So quiet and dark at night with stunning star cover! Plenty of bleached bones lying around to make one really aware of the life cycle and to be appreciative of how lucky we are to be out in nature instead of sitting at a desk job we dislike.

We were visited by an adorable bull who just sauntered by the van looking for a friend.

The Gila is vast and primitive. Keep it clean for all of us. Please pick up at least one piece of trash left by others. It will make a difference.

We didn't end up staying here. There weren't many camp spots in the first mile or so of the road, and you had to cross a large wash to get to sites further in. A local warned us that the area was prone to flash flooding! We moved a bit further down the road to the Apache Springs Campground. Perhaps there are better spots further in, but we decided not to risk it.

Good spot for a couple of days. Beautiful views. However, this spot had lots 9f beer cans and broken glass. We picked up the best we could. Also, a weird thing. Both days we were there a guy in a truck parked at the road, faced our spot and just sat there for about a half hour. Pretty sure he was just a local probably checking up on us. We didn't feel so comfortable as to move. We actually enjoyed it. If you are able, go into the town of Reserve and eat at Ella's Cafe. Great breakfast! They serve lunch and dinner as well. Very nice folks!!!
