Latest Check-Ins

Great spot cute pull off. Nice fire pits. Lots of spaces. Spacious for a 25 foot bus. No clearance needed. Watch for mud and getting stuck if raining.

Report Check-In

was recommended Cinder Hills OHV by a Ranger at the Ranger Station in town. all the other forest service roads were stilled closed for the season (they were snowed in and probably will be muddy for the foreseeable future). we ended up camping here 6 nights. it was soooo windy, so we tried to camp away from any trees that looked questionable (it appeared that lots of branches did fall during that week). extremely dusty. but free, just north of Flagstaff, and just a few miles south of Sunset Crater National Monument! our 2WD van made it fine, we saw a couple of other rigs (much bigger than ours), but it wasn’t too busy. decent AT&T and Verizon.

Report Check-In

Pretty quiet (distant generators), very spaced out, beautiful. Not a ton of privacy as the trees are kind of sparse where I parked. No off-roaders while I was here. Would recommend getting here in the daylight so you can pick out a good spot. Great cell service.

Report Check-In

We camped about a mile off the main road. We have a 39' class A towing a jeep and had no problem getting here. Plenty of level places with solid ground.

Report Check-In

Tons of places to park. Can be a bit noisy in the main area because of dirt bikes etc. but that what this space is intended for. If you search around past the big gravel pit you can find some hidden gems. Cell signal was decent for att and Verizon. Road in can get bumpy. Take it slow.

Report Check-In

Lots of space to camp. A lot of ATV activity (noisy and verging on reckless) up until sunset. Trash in the firepits and a little elsewhere. Cell signals where we were we low but manageable, data speeds were slow (Verizon and T-Moblie).

Report Check-In

We've been staying in the area for quite a while... hundreds of spots to dispersed camp. Close to town and accessible even when snowing! plus the area is damn cool. Lots of trails, hiking opportunities, and even a few geocaches. Great cell data areas if you search for it -- my wife worked remotely with Zoom clients with zero issues.

Fun fact: every NASA astronaut that went on a moon mission trained in this area.

Report Check-In

Dispersed free camping for 14 nights, quiet space, be sure to find a level spot before setting up for the night, most level spots are right in by the sign that says dispersed camping

Report Check-In

Dispersed camping. Very quiet. Free but no services.

Report Check-In

Lots and LOTS of places to park. Pulled in here in the dark and it was a bit hard to find a level spot, lots of atv activity. You’ll be parking in small, black gravel. Wasn’t my favorite spot ever, but it’s pretty.

Report Check-In

Easy access from highway. 1,000's of places to park. Under huge pines. Lots of side by sides and 4 wheelers on holiday weekends. I see busses and long term campers in the northern campgrounds living their best van life.

Report Check-In

Good big area, can get dusty. Big rig friendly

Report Check-In

Road a bit bumpy but accessible to all rigs at this time. There is a lot of shaded camping and a huge field of what looks to be black crushed gravel. Bear in mind what OHV stands for, there are loads of off road trails for motorbikes (and probably other off road motors). Apparently it gets a bit noisy at the weekend.

Report Check-In

Nice disbursed camping area. Road coming in pretty good with some washboard. Just don't get stuck looking off the main road in areas with deep volcanic gravel, but lots of good places to camp with hard packed gravel/dirt.

Report Check-In

Lots of areas to park along the road. Although gravel/soft volcanic ash so we didn’t stray too far. But saw RVs further into the trees so probably not a problem. We just didn’t want to risk our Subaru Outback getting stuck. Lots of people to off-roading here so some sounds but nice area.

Really cool area! If you drive all the way to the top you might find a spot with views of the mountains!
