from this gate to the river you don't see any animals. only a few baboons playing on the tar road. the branches next to road are to thick to see anything. park opens at 7am. THIS PARK IS NOT YOUR MONEY WORTH. Payed USD 160 for a few monkeys and the waterfall. above the river you will see a few Hartebees and impala. the whole park is a tar road with mine trucks.

We weren’t aware of the new price structure and despite driving up here all the way from Kigali decided that it’s just too ridiculous and overpriced so we decided not to enter the park and head to Sipi Falls instead. By the time you add up everything you end up 200 USD for two people … makes no sense!

All gates enterance fees are:
45$ pp for 24 hours
Foreign vehicle 60$ 4WD for your stay in the park. If you stay outside the park you will pay all the fees again. Accomdation payable at camping sites.
To see the falls is another 10$pp if you want to hike it is 15$.

There has been a change to the vehicle fees. They used to be per ENTRY, but they have been changed to per DAY. Obviously a massive increase for foreign vehicles. We argued about this at the gate and at Paraa, as the new rule is posted on the UWA website to be effective July 2022, but they have already implemented it.

Also starting July they will charge an addition 10 USD pd vehicle fee, and 10 USD to visit the top of the falls. This is all in the new 2022-2024 UWA fee schedule online.

Also if you pay on your card (which is a slow process) watch the %that they add.
It’s supposed to be 1.026% for using your card.
Somehow the guy could not understand that he was working it out wrong.
Our bill $130
We should have been charged $131.33 but after showing him numerous times how to work it out, we gave up and He charged us $133.40.
We don’t care about the $2 but after being charged $50 for our car, it’s was just an extra cost that is wrong and all adds up.

$40 pp
Foreign car (South Africa ) $50
We expressed our unhappiness about this as East African cars are 30,000UGX, the reception guy apologised and said it was unfair but there’s nothing he can do as it’s set by the government.
We will be emailing the park to express that all cars should be the same price.. (maybe if lots of people do they will listen)
We will still enter the park.

We paid 30 000 (8$) for the car (eastern African plate) and 40$per person, permit is valid 24 hours!! (we arrived and left at 11:30am, spent a night (bushcamped) in the nord west part of the park for free, check campsite ioverlander).
But we would advise people to enter from Bugungu gate (south west of the Nile, drive along the lake) and get to the falls from there instead of the South gate. The Chinese are making a 30 meters wide road from the South entrance because of oil exploitation. You won't see any animals there except monkeys for 45 kms. Better enter a bit later up nord to stay a bit longer the next day ;)
The wildlife is north of the Nile. North-West is the best spot to see big cats. You will also see dozens of giraffes. In overall great National Park with pleasant people, the roads are good, a must do!

entry pp 40 $ per day

we paid 50 $ for our Land Rover Defender for our whole stay!
UWA has a website where you can check all the prices for the np

The full pricelist of all Ugandan National Parks can be downloaded on a PDF file on the internet.

We read the price to enter Murchison Falls with your own foreign car would cost USD150,-(thirty times more than a local car) a day. So we drove up to the gate expecting jeeps to be around in which we could enter the park to get to the boat launch for USD30,- pp.

But there was nothing, when without car you should get a taxi from town to enter the park. Two other tourists paid that taxi drive Sh.600 000,-(!) to drive them around the park without returning them to their hotel and excl. entrance fees and park fees!

Ri-di-cu-lous!
