Rest area at or near mile 51. Very nice little shelters with picknic tables and lighting at night. They are each separated from each other by about 100 yards. NM allows free camping at rest areas for one night at a time. A bit noisy since right on I10 and a train track but ok from 10pm to 4am to sleep with earplugs.

We tried to stay here at 8:30 pm when headed west (westbound rest area is closed) and Google told us we could drive in from Frontage Rd entrance instead of hwy headed east. When we arrived, the Frontage Rd entrance was gated and locked. Rest stop only accessible via hwy entrance. You’ll have to turn around at Rte 146 and head east on I-10. Heads up to the next person.
Report Check-InDidn’t stay here but wish we had! Looks a great spot for a quick over night stay. Can confirm it’s open. Separated pavilions, bathrooms. Right off the interstate. T-mobile 2 bars.
Report Check-InImpressive cement structures covering cement picnic tables. Sign says stay not to exceed 24 hours.
Report Check-InSee 2/6 review beIow. I meant noisy 4am to 10 pm during the day and eve but ok to sleep from 10pm to 4am w earplugs.
Report Check-InNice newly painted clean shelters, well groomed approach road. Noisy between 10pm and 4am but ok with earplugs during the night to sleep. You are right on I10 and a train track. 1-2 bars 5G Tmobile.
Report Check-InAs far as I could tell, no one else was using the shelters the night I was there. But it’s a great place for a night. I actually got there late afternoon and spent time reading under the shelter, out of the hot sun. Highly recommend!
Report Check-InSpent one night parked at one of the pavilions, on the east side of the complex. Nice area, some highway noise, but no diesel truck/18 wheeler parked next to you idling all night! Good Verizon cell service. Would highly recommend for overnighting.
Report Check-InStayed here one night without any problems. There’s a train track near by but only heard it as we arrived around 7pm and then again around 6am. We parked next to one of the shelters away from the car park areas. Restrooms are clean and so are the shelter areas. Lots of space and distance between the shelters. There are approximately 10 of them. Also saw a spigot but did not have a chance to test to see if it was working.
Report Check-InArrived a little before sunset on a Monday night. Spots by the Casitas looked enticing since they are more away from the road. Ended up overnighting at the end of the car parking lot.
Road noise is a bit more then other Rest Areas, but the area itself is good.
3 Verizon bars 4G
Report Check-InNice little spot. Straight in/out. Clean.
- Tandem truck/RV spots
- Casita picnic shelters
- Pet* area
- Numerous trash bins
- Restrooms (I didn’t check out)
*Please check your pets paws after a walk out past the parking area. I found a bunch of goat head thorns in the soles of my shoes. Yikes! (See pics)
Report Check-InLate night arrival, went to the back where it was dark. Quiet plenty of space the stars were amazing. Highly recommend and was safe
Report Check-Invery nice and private shelters, perfect for a night, not too loud actually, we slept well

Report Check-InNice test area with individual campsites and covered picnic tables. Between hiway and railway tracks so a little noisy from trains but not bad. Safe.
