Something not right?

Description

Beautiful spot right up against the Reserva Natural Macizos de Peñas Blancas. You can tent camp right near Don Chico's coffee plants or you can stay in your car right outside his house. 50c per car per night and includes a surprisingly nice bathroom with a shower. He is also a guide and will take you on an awesome hike up to the waterfalls and the highest point for 200c per person (~5 hours). There is also a tourist center a few meters down the road with cabañas and tours but they charge a lot more. No need for 4x4 to get here.

They have two small cabanas and in process of building two more. They are often booked out but apparently they are on booking.com

Tenting is in between fruit trees there is a small shared seat and fire pit. Bathroom is just a basic flush toilet with hot water shower shared with the family. The veiw is amazing.

Now the hike.
To give you some back ground I am slight heavy, unfit and afraid of heights. But I also love nature and are determined.
It took us 1.5hrs up. This was a very steep path and some times climbing up ladders. The circuit at the top was also 1.5hrs. We then had the choice of the long route or short. The long route took 2.5hrs to go down. It was very muddy, slippery and steep. We wished we took the short route which was back down the way we came up.

Saying all this we still really enjoyed the hike. But wear proper hiking shoes with grip. Tennis shoes will not cut it.

Don Chico is 84 year old supper fit but will go at your pace.

We loved this place, Abraham has a small permaculture farm and is such a lovely person! We didn’t pay for the camping but we went with him deep into the cloud forest for 2 days. Saw so many beautiful birds, trees & waterfalls. And... woke up we a few Quetzales above our campground! Magic! Campfire at night. It is 1000c per person, but absolutely worth it! And spending your money in the right place. People who truly love and protect nature. Go!

Very nice view of Penas Blancas from the camp area. We stayed in a coffee field across from Don Chico’s, they originally wanted 150c per person, but we negotiated to 50c per person. The restaurant has great food for decent price. You can take a tour into the mountains for 200c pp as well .

Great place and Don Chico is the best!! With his 79 years he will easily outrun you during the hike. The hike to the top and waterfall is serious jungle hiking. Don't go if you are afraid of height!
Food in Restaurant is cheap and delicious! parking lot is not good for very big rigs, or only If alone.
If you are lucky, Don Chico might get his Banjo out for some live music in the evening...😜

Also we saw many Toucans and apparently when you are there in the warmer months, you can see quetzals!

Great! Still 50 col per car and 200 for the tour with amazing Don Chico on his hike through the forest. Very good and cheap home made food, lovely family and a beautiful surrounding, still far away from big tourism - fantastic spot!
