Something not right?

Description

Typical local and rundown lodge but probably one of the better options in town. Situated right at the Zambezi and we enjoyed watching the mokoros over a cold beer. Green grounds and a pool. They allow camping for 100Zk (9€) pp but say that they had complaints because of the sloping ground. A chalet costs 250Zk (22€). We didn't stay but think it's good for a cheap cold drink in the afternoon.

Latest Check-Ins

We were apprehensive about camping here having read the OverLander reviews, but our experience was very pleasant. Yes, it’s a little rundown, but no more than the average lodge / camping and the team are clearly making an effort to keep things clean. Staff were very friendly. They showed us around the grounds, opened up a room for us to have a shower in (clean with hot water) and allowed us to pick any spot we wished in the grounds to camp on. We ended up in the middle front of the lawn, overlooking the Zambezi: it was perfect. Best view we’ve had whilst camping. 100kwa pppp.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a Mosi at the bar and got shown around the premises looking for a place to camp. When you travel Zambia, you expect rundown places, but this place takes it next level. Main building is antique. Camp sites are not levelled. One braaistand for the entite camp. Apparently there used to be a bar at the river that was the place to be in town, but it’s a ruin now. Pool (next to the giant satelite dish) looks like my aqarium when i was a kid and did not clean it for a year. We were still prepared to stay, untill we found out the price for camping at this museum where time stood still is ZMW 150 pppn (you cannot pay bt card but there is an ATM across the street from the filling station, where no diesel was available by the way). We did not stay. A shame to see what looks like it used to be a beautiful place at such a nice location go to waste.

Probably only place to camp on Zambezi near here. Camp next to one of their rondavels for shower & toilet and electricity. Dodgy pool (very green!), restaurant & bar, maybe fishing and boat trips on Zambezi. Place looking a bit run down and few visitors. ZK150 pppn camping.
