Description

This is a good neighborhood in rio and also the home of the para and hang gliding club. It is at the end on a long beach stretch. You can park on the beachfront for free. There are a few yellow pavilions which sell drinks and food. At the third one (counting from the end of the street) there is a all day long security guy. We slept just in front of them. Felt very safe and was quite at night. Even during the day it is not busy and the beach is great. If you fly with the club you can use toilets and showers as often as you want. We flew with Rodrigo who is an experienced and very good pilot who knows everyone. He arranged that we could use the facilities at all time (not sure about the night though). You can contact him via what's app +55 21 99682-3636. We really enjoyed it here. Better than sugar loaf where we slept 3 nights.

Great spot for being in the city! The environment is very relaxed this time of year. Of course, there are people around, but we felt comfortable with our side doors open and slept very well! There are bathrooms at the flight buildings/açaí shop near the roundabout. We didn’t need to pay to use them. 10r for 24hr parking/5r for the day. We are 5.72m in length and just fit in the parking spots. Longer rigs can parallel park on the side street - the parking attendant will direct you

What a fantastic spot! Beautiful beach, hang gliders and paragliders landing all day long, good grocery store (Zona Sul) less than 1 km away and upscale shopping mall (Fashion Mall) with ATM 1.5 km away. Free wi fi from hang gliding club house. Toilet and showers 5 R’s. Quiet at night. Our second day a parking attendant came and said he’d have to charge us for three spots since we were parked in sideways. We had thought it was free and no one else seemed to be charged but we paid it. He said people complained because we were taking three spots so he collected 6 R’s from us for 24 hours so he could tell those who complained that we paid for three spots. He collected again our last day there but not every day. There are no empty parking spots all day. In fact they are often parked double. We lucked out in that we arrived at 6:00 p.m. on a very rainy Sunday so no one was there and we got nicely parked. Other times your best bet is to arrive after 6 or 7 p.m. or park anywhere you can on the long street before you get to this spot and then move over after dark or early morning. The downside to this spot is the distance from the center of the city. A bus stop is three blocks away but the nearest subway stop is almost 3 km away. Many people use Uber or taxi. Subway, bus and tram are all free for those over 60. Just show a photo ID with birthday on it. We used a copy of our passports. There’s usually someone at the far right or left of the metro styles. Show them your ID and they will let you through. Some museums are also free for those over 60. Just show ID. Sugar Loaf is half price if over 60. Locals and tour guides think Sugar Loaf is a better view than Christ the Redeemer. It’s cheaper and much easier to get to and is a fantastic view. We recommend that over Christ the Redeemer unless you are really set on going to C the R. I flew with pilot Eu Voei 21 97181-0506. He is very experienced and careful so you could ask for him.

You can pitch a tent next to the thatched hut where there are public electrical sockets. Very friendly guys at the club and there's security right there. Toilets 5R$ per visit, so do all ablutions at the same time ;-)
