The officer on duty said they would only extend within the last couple days of the validity period.

Update: Got my extension two days before expiration. Only 15 more days, starting from the date of extension. ("resetting the clock")

The officer (same as last Saturday) initially asked for 100 somoni for "customs paper", pointing to the $10 road tax receipt stapled to my old permit. (No.) Then $10 (lol, 3% reduction in 'ask'). (No.) Then without a word he abruptly walked away with another customs guy and it looked like he was instructing him on how to fill out the form.

After 2 mins waiting at the door of the trailer office next to the border bridge, "My friend!", waving me into the office. Got the new form. Free.

Make sure the old $10 (moto) or $25 (car) receipt is stapled to your new form.

Easy extension, they asked for 100$. No. Haha kidding only 100somoni. No. Ok, 15 somoni. No. Ah Slovenians... gives us the paper.

Also got our extention for 15 days in 2 minutes. They still ask for the 100 somoni. We said that they told us at the border it was free. The guy made a sad face and put the stamp in slow motion on our paper but still only took a couple of minutes.

Report Check-In

I got the stamp for 15 days in 2minutes. The guy ask me 90som, but I told him, smiling, I don't have. No problem at all :-) he just asks :-) it's free!!!!!!

Report Check-In

very quick process - ne carefull, they can extend if you are going out to Kyrgistan. if you are going in opposite direction "into Tajikistan" it's not possible

Report Check-In

Looks like a military base. After insisting I had to do motorcycle papers they let me pass, they were very nice. 15 days extension were 90 Solomi.

Report Check-In

The guy at the office didn't speak English. He called somebody, in the meanwhile he extended and put a stamp on our forms. The person on the phone tried to make me pay 100 somoni for two motorbikes. But I already had the extended paper in my hand, said thank you with a smile and left.

Report Check-In

We extended our permit today for another 15 days. We were 6 days too late, but finally it was no problem. They wanted 100 Somoni, but we didn't pay because the extention is for free! They just try to get money from the travellers, and most of them pay...

Report Check-In

No problem to extend. Asked 150Somoni for 15 days. I told him that others paid 100 or nothing. He put a stamp for 15 extra days and when I asked why we should pay at all (since others didn’t) we could leave without paying. Seems like you pay a personal fee instead of official costs (also no receipt offered).

Report Check-In

We got the extension- but not without discussion that we won’t pay 100 Somoni - neither for extension nor for „Straf“ (we overstayed 3d. Finally we asked about name and Identfication Number - and it was done.

Report Check-In

super easy, were here at 8 am, guy in the office was nice and even spoke a few words English. wanted 100 som stamping fee, we said we don't have money left and the border said it should be free. gave us +9 days for free didn't even have to argue. 5 minutes in and out, no problems.

Report Check-In

We had no problems to extend our road tax. We went first to the tourist information and one of the guys went with us to the office. He translated our wish to extend the road tax with 15 days. It was easily done. We paid 100 somoni. So go to the tourist information first. It is in the park in Korogh.

Report Check-In

Easy peasy. Five minutes to get an extra 15 days. We went there (coincidence) on the day of expiration. It was on a Saturday. Show the military your form.

Report Check-In

yes we can have an extension of 9 days more.
they ask us 100 somonis but finally it was free

Report Check-In

Went there in the afternoon, not there. In the evening, not there. Finally in the morning. He wanted that we pay the road tax, 25$, again. We didn't do it. Had a few days left. Will probably leave in time

Report Check-In

We came here on our 10th day (so a couple days before it expires) and they asked us to come back on the day of expiry. We explained we wouldn’t be near a customs office around that time and they eventually agreed to extent. The main reason they were reluctant seems to be that they can only extent 15 days from today, not from the expiry date. This was fine for us because we only needed one extra week. We paid 100 somoni. They were friendly and spoke some English. No problems getting into the gate.

Report Check-In

Was not possible to extend here after 9 days in Tajikistan. They said it was too early. They directed me to Darwaz, I will see there.

EDIT: Had to come back to Khorog 3 days before expiry due to car problem. It was on a Saturday, so they were not working. A friendly local called the guy and he arrived at the customs by car. I had to make up the story that I wasn't able to reach Dushanbe before actual expiry of the import document. It seems like they really don't like to make the extension, but they helped me out in the end and even came to the office for me. I had to buy a new document and pay the import tax again. No idea if it was a bribe or not.

Report Check-In

We asked at the tourist information about extending our road tax after it's expired. They said that if exiting to Osh, we shouldn't bother. There should be no problems and if there are, to just bribe 40 TJS. That matches what Backroad Vagrants told us: they didn't have any problems.

EDIT: We paid a fine of 20 TJS per vehicle for being more than 2 weeks late.

Report Check-In

We went in the morning to the customs but were told, they are not here. Maybe in the afternoon of tomorrow. We decide to come back in the afternoon because our permit for the motorbikes expires tomorrow. At first they didn't let us through, after we stayed at the gate and asked the military guy's if they can call mr Nurmuhamad finaly they opened the door. Mr Nurmuhamad was laying on his bed was not in the mood for work. He said come back tomorrow, we said no because of the expire date. Finaly he helped us, for $10 each motorbike we extented for another 30 days. We got his signature and the new date with a customs stamp on the back of the original permit. He was very friendly but lazy!

Report Check-In

They wouldn't extend our permit, as it was already expired. They said, they'd have to charge $50 for every day after expiry. So we bounced. Will try our luck on getting out of the country with expired papers. Should be possible from what we hear..
