Peru
BE CAREFUL! We drove this bit between Puno and the Hostal Casa Blanca three times and twice there was a temporary police checkpoint set up at approximately this location. They wanted to see the vehicle papers (= Aduana document), drivers license and the INSURANCE DOCUMENTS. Thus this is a POTENTIAL STICKY POINT for overlanders DRIVING INTO PUNO FROM BOLIVIA WITHOUT A VALID INSURANCE POLICY FOR PERU.
We don't have any photos of this place yet.

No checkpoint here for me, actually I didn't find any police checkpoints from Copacabana to Puno (monday morning).
Report Check-InNo checkpoint here for us but there was one a couple of cities down south (will create a separate entry). Corrupt police, asked for SOAT which we obviously did not have because it is not possible to get it at the border. Even on our TIP, aduana wrote: SOAT in puno. Police did not care, asked for 40 soles but we did not have any cash. Then they asked for 150 US dollars instead. A joke! We ended up paying 20 dollars, they had our passports and would not give them back without money. Be well prepared, it was an unpleasant first experience in Peru…
Report Check-Inthey are now controlling a few km further east. we showed them all documents. our soat, which we have, was in the end not necesarry. they were happy and friendly.
Report Check-InChecked our papers, but luckily didn't ask for soat. No soat available at the border.
