Driving eastbound, 17 km after Cambará do Sol tar road ends and a very bad section of gravel road starts for 25 km up to the Vale das Trutas. 10 km/h per hour with our 5 ton Iveco 4x4. There is a 10 km long construction site at the beginning of the bad stretch which causes delays on top. For us more than 4 hours for 40 km! Gravel continues up to São Joaquim.

As of mid April ‘24 this pin can be moved 15kms up the road due to progress. Still unpaved but a lot of it is good gravel. Still working on the road further up the road. Probably be paved at some point.
Report Check-InStill very rough road under what looks like halted construction. Uncomfortably bumpy. Start with an empty bladder! You'll never appreciate pavement so much.
Report Check-InYes, bumpy dirt roads from about here to Sao Jose dos Ausentes. Once you make it to Sao Jose dos Ausentes, it’s paved, but if you continue on the RS-020 towards Joaquim, it’s gravel again. This time, much better maintained. The worst of it is the stretch around this marker. Google Maps time ETA was correct for us. I wouldn’t recommend these roads, but if you deicide to take them, make the most of it! Plan for a long day through the rural countryside. It is beautiful.
