Guatemala
this is a natural preserve project in the middle of the jungle next to a nice river (4.5 km off hwy). there's a camping area for tents and they have two guestrooms in the main building (Q150/p). the rooms are very clean and there is a super nice bathroom (clean and good water pressure). you can use the fully equipped kitchen. very nice people and a cute little mayan village. we parked our car next to the "road" and it was very safe. it's not possible to sleep in the car but we can really recommend the guestrooms.
the only negative thing: there are lots of spiders - but that's the jungle... and if they know you are afraid they will remove them for you, even in the middle of the night ;)
to take a bath in the river you pay Q25/p. to go to the caves (10 minutes walk) you pay Q50/p.
how to get there: approximately 15 km after the finca paraiso you can see a sign "cañon seacacar" on the right side of the road. it's a small dirt road with an open gate. the first part is easy but then it gets pretty steep. 4x4 required. just follow the road and the signs. it's about 4.5 km to the camp.

natural reserve run by qeqchi community, on shores a beautiful river
prívate accomodations available, running water, local dishes, river tubing and hiking tours
the only sounds around are birds, howler monkeys and the river
Nice place in a beautiful natural setting. We paid only Q15 pp to enter the property where you can swim and hike along the river to a small cave (no extra fee) and further on all the way down to the valley (the footpath meets the main road opposite of the Balneario de Boqueron). To drive there 4X4 is recommended, high clearance essential. It took us about 20 minutes to cover the 4.5 km from the main road.
